Recap: After sustaining heavy losses in the recently ended First World War, Major Foster of the French Foreign Legion, is sent with some new recruits to protect an archaeological dig. The dig infuriates the local tribes and the former Foreign Legion camp was overrun and the soldiers killed. In enemy territory, in a hostile environment on a suicide mission Foster and his men must march on, or die.

Comments: A pretty average action/war movie. The surrounding environment is dry, as is the plot. There is not much depth or reasons given why. Just that the powers that be wish this mission to be carried out, and so it is. Most characters are also thin and dry, as the Legion asks no question, and we are given very little information on who the men are, and why they are there. Therefore it is quite hard to take a real interest in the men and their struggles. In part, the reason that you figure out who is important is either by the screen time given or by recognizing the face of a known actor, not by the actions of the character.

And that is also the main reason to watch this. There are quite a few known actors in this movie, most notably Hackman, Deneuve, von Sydow and Holm. Nice to see what they did a few decades ago, but the movie in itself is forgettable. Something you can slumber through...
