Yanni Live! The Concert Event (2006 TV Special)
10/10
Excellent music, excellent performance
29 January 2008
After a long time, Yanni released a new DVD recorded on one of his 2006 concerts in Las Vegas. The way it is praised by critics and how it sold around the world both show what a precious piece of art it is.

Yanni Live! The Concert Event features some new pieces, as well rearrangements of some old ones. The orchestra is smaller than what was seen on previous Yanni videos, and there is no leader! There are many new members in the band and the orchestra although some of the old members are still with Yanni in that concert.

There are some instruments used in this concert which weren't used in previous Yanni concerts, including a hammer dulcimer (played by Dan Landrum). Harp was used dominantly unlike previous Yanni videos.

Sayaka Katsuki has replaced Karen Briggs, although, in terms of style and creativity, she is not a master yet.

But above all of this, Yanni Live! The Conert Event owes a lot to the Armenian violin player Samvel Yervinyan. He plays from a super-fast duo inspired from Vivaldi's Four Season to a few super-soft Middle Eastern solos which really make you feel "love" and "passion". The tonality of these solos, which are akin to Iranian music, was never spread in the world like this; Yanni Live! The Concert Event let's listeners from around the world to get familiar with the power of the music of West Asia.

All in all, the whole thing is fabulous and watching the DVD is a must for people who want to extend their musical listening.
