Review of Doc Hollywood

Doc Hollywood (1991)
6/10
Easy going, enjoyable comedy

Michael Caton-Jones has taken a very good 'light' approach to this 'fish out of water' comedy. Fox plays surgeon 'Ben Stone', a hopeful young doctor who is accidentally detained in a small country town while on his way to the West Coast to take up a position as a plastic surgeon. It is his laid-back performance, along with Caton-Jones' direction (which makes sure the movie never gets bogged down nor takes itself seriously) that keeps you interested in the young medico's adventures in Grady. Supporting cast are also good.

The film is never at all raucously funny, but it usually manages to raise a smile, and it is consistent. A good film with no false pretenses.
