El Chapulín Colorado (1973–1979)
Classic TV for all ages
5 November 2006
El Chapulín Colorado was and always be one of my favorite TV shows of all time. I remember growing up in Ecuador I used to love this show to death, they used to show it like around noon, when it was recess time from school, I would go home and watch this show while I was having lunch. The character always fascinated me and was like taking a break from amazing superheroes like Batman, Superman and Spiderman. But Chapulín was amazing as well. While he was, like his creator, Roberto Gomez Bolaños describes him, dumb, stupid, ugly, short, clumsy, cowardly, he still had a lot of heart like the shield on his uniform shows, and even though he was scared to death of a possible peril, he would never back down from it and face it. That was true courage. And of course wherever there was a pretty girl, he would never waste any chance to flirt with her. The special effects from this show is what fascinated me as a kid, although cheap to today's standards, it was pretty groundbreaking for it's time on Mexican television. (early to late 70's). This show, along with "El Chavo del Ocho" will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of millions of Latinos around the world. It's the two biggest shows in the history of Spanish television. Highly recommendable if you like classic slapstick humor and if you're a gringo, if you're curious to know who the "Bumblebee Man" is really based on. 10 out of 10.
