Review of Winx Club

Winx Club (2004–2023)
2/10
Things ain't Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows Baby.

Whenever I watch Winx I always have to go put something "darker" on like Disney's Gargoyles or even the Bakshi animated LOTR afterwards. The reason why is that Winx is the least "organic" show I've ever seen.

The stories and characters are great but when it gets right down to it, the Witches are the only characters I can believe because they have the organic colors that make other cartoons good. If Winx had a more organic color scheme (say more natural greens and reds than neon pink and green) it be much better. IT could be very good but when everything is "cottoncandy pink" it gives it that air of a show intended for very small children. But, then again, this is a recent show and most of the stuff that's new isn't that good. If it had come out ten years ago people would be like: What the crud? Because ten years ago animation was at its peak with studios like Disney and Warner Brothers coming out with what was the peak of their shows(Examples include: Bonkers, and Animaniacs). But because we're in the age of 3-D and CGI such cartoons are now labeled as obsolete and shoved into nooks and crannies of our minds to make way what for what the masses want. Apparently it's bright and fuzzy and hurts ones eyes even when sitting ten feet away from the TV because the colors are so bright. I toy with the idea of playing with my TV's contrast whenever I watch it. I also find myself switching channels a lot.

My issue with Winx isn't only the colors, it's the improbability of it all! I mean, there's more fluff than real storytelling and certain aspects that are revealed aren't even explained or are explained away with very anti-climatic situations. Put Winx up to something, ANYTHING from ten years ago and its a cardboard cutout! Give me Gargoyles over Winx any day. If you don't want your brain to turn to mush I highly suggest staying away from this "abomination" of shows.
