Star Trek: Bridge Commander (2002 Video Game)
8/10
Entertaining, but droning

Definitely one of the better Star Trek games out there, Bridge Commander certainly does put you in direct command of a starship. However, starships move too much like the capital ships they are, and therefore combat can sometimes be long and drawn out. Even more so is the repetitive voice acting. Not to say that it isn't bad acting, it's just that you tend to hear the same voices again and again and again...

However the game is set up in a nice manor, and the thought behind it is incredible. Each starship has it's own unique hard points and arcs for weapons, so strategically lining up your shots is a must for victory. At the very least, the game makes you think.

On another note, the music is good. However, unfortunately, it doesn't fit the mood of the game very well. The music is nicely performed and is nice to listen to, but it is way too slow and soft for a game centered around starship combat and operations. Otherwise, the music is very nice :) Regardding mods, there are plenty of starships to download on the internet to make this game worth getting. While the game itself comes with only a limited few to fly, with all the BC mods out there, you can double, possibly triple the amount of starships in your list. (There are even mods that are NOT Star Trek related, such as Battlestar Galactica, etc). If you do decide to download mods, my first suggestion would be the Prometheus. Yes, you CAN go into Multi Vector Assault Mode (MVAM) and it is one of the coolest additions I have seen for ANY game.

Enjoy! I would say it's worth buying now at a discounted price. Fun way to kill some time.
