Merchant marine who loves children is redeemed by those children.

Warning: Spoilers
Wow!!! Pied Piper Malone had its second premier in Georgetown, SC on March 25, 2006. I was at the 4 PM show Saturday, March 25, 2006. My grandmother, Margaret Caroline Falor, and great uncle, William Gaillard Falor were two of the children in the movie. I actually thought that I recognized them. I have been searching for a copy of this movie for 8 years. My grandmother died in 2000, but I did at least prove to her from information on the internet that it had been filmed in Georgetown in 1923. She and Uncle Bill never got to see themselves in the movie.

Because it is a silent movie, I was afraid that people would laugh at it, but the audience behaved the same as the audience probably did 82 years ago. The only laughing was at the truly funny parts. It is a warm story of a man who is loved by the children of the town. The children are the ones who end up redeeming him in the eyes of the townspeople. And in the end he wins the love of his girl. The movie is timeless in its theme. It was special for the Georgetown audience to see homes and buildings that still exist today.

The pianist was truly an outstanding part of the movie viewing experience. The composition was finely tuned to the range of emotions depicted by the actors and the action segments in the story. It was easy to see the vital part the music use to play in the silent film theatre.

I am so glad that some people in Russia long ago loved this movie enough to hide it from the Stalin government. Thank you everyone who had a part in bringing this movie back to its place in America and in Georgetown, South Carolina.

Had it not been for me writing a review blog about how the film was missing and had John Coles, silent film historian, not contacted me about its existence, my family and I might not have seen this movie. I can't express enough how thrilled and thankful we all are.
