A good legal oriental movie
7 February 2001
In a Beijing that is still not used and convinced of the occidental values, printed by the American culture, an homicide is consumed. This has the smell of an international conspiracy.

It is interesting to see how the director John Avnet presents all the complications of a Chinese process against an American citizen.

The language and culture difference is very well stressed. An occidental scapegoat has to be found for the "spiritual cleaning" of the oriental race, more free of violence than in USA. Two different political standpoints: one very conservative and anti- occident and the other one more progressist and opener, are the frame of this legal movie based in a communication network company that wants to sell some American TV multimillionaire packages to the China government. Corruption and black money are the one that Jack Moore - Richard Gere has to sort out.

A good legal movie in the tangled cobweb of the Chinese penal code.
