A remake of the 1961 French film set in rural Ireland
15 October 1998
This remake of the 1961 French cinema classic is set in present-day rural Ireland. A young woman reminisces about how two gangs of pre-teen boys, one group poor and another middle class, fight against each other over territory and adolescent bravado.

When a member of an opposing gang is caught, the young victim is tortured at knifepoint, then their clothing, neckties, buttons, etc., are cut off and collected as bounty. Victims are left underwear-clad, as they go home to face angry parents who confront them about missing and damaged clothing. The gang fights take some very comic turns through the film, especially in a scene where the poorer boys shock the richer boys senseless, as they launch a surprise nude ambush attack against them.

The two gang leaders finally become allies, as they find themselves running from the Law, and a mob of angry village parents, after the parents discover how the gangs terrorized their children, and destroyed a farm tractor in gang battle. This angry mob eventually comes to their senses, and becomes concerned about the two young gang leaders, when they climb a jagged mountain trying to flee from them.

With help from their village teacher, the gang leaders are sent to a Catholic boarding school. The young woman telling the story married one of these chaps...guess which one??
