Review of Bluebeard

Bluebeard (1972)
2/10
Burton as boogieman
28 March 1999
You wouldn't expect Richard Burton to have any trouble stepping into the boogieman shoes of Vincent Price, but he certainly did in "Bluebeard." The film is heavy on the organ music as Burton's Bluebeard knocks off his wives the same way he married them: one by one. At least he's not a bigamist. Burton's accent is as phony as any I've ever heard, and there are several hunting scenes that appeared too real for my liking. At one point, a dog looks like it's been blown away. If it was only a stunt, the dog deserved an Oscar. The movie didn't.
