Despite their broad appeal, Joanna and Chip Gaines have not been immune to criticism about their inclusiveness. The former stars of the HGTV show “Fixer Upper,” and scions of the new streaming channel Magnolia Network, expressed frustration in a new interview at the accusations of racism and homophobia that get lobbed against them.
“Sometimes I’m like, ‘Can I just make a statement?'” Joanna told the Hollywood Reporter. “The accusations that get thrown at you, like you’re a racist or you don’t like people in the LGBTQ community, that’s the stuff that really eats my lunch — because it’s so far from who we really are. That’s the stuff that keeps me up.”
In the past, even though the couple has been linked to several associates who have espoused racist or homophobic ideologies, they have remained silent, preferring to stay neutral about controversial matters. It...

Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe were named temporary replacement co-hosts for Chris Harrison on the current season of “The Bachelorette,” as the longtime host stepped aside amid controversy in March. Harrison’s full departure from the franchise became official shortly after the new season premiered.
Now, the door is wide open for a new face of the ABC series. Bristowe tells Variety that they haven’t had any official meetings about future hosting opportunities, but both former “Bachelorettes” are interested in continuing hosting duties with the franchise.

In a dramatic twist that rivals all on-screen antics from “The Bachelor,” Chris Harrison officially departed the hit dating franchise this week, after nearly 20 years as host of the series.
As the face of “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette,” “Bachelor in Paradise” and all of the other spinoffs within the ABC juggernaut, Harrison has hosted more than 50 seasons altogether, dating back to 2002. But after making racially insensitive comments during a widely-panned interview where he defended a contestant, Rachael Kirkconnell, who attended an antebellum-themed plantation party, Harrison became subject of a media firestorm that never went away. After months of waiting on the sidelines as guest hosts began to fill in for him, Harrison officially parted ways with the franchise, following a legal settlement and acrimonious exit negotiations behind closed doors.
Now, with guest hosts rotating in-and-out for the current season of “The Bachelorette” and the upcoming summer season of “Bachelor in Paradise,...

Exclusive: Just hours after the 17th season of The Bachelorette debuted, longtime host Chris Harrison has exited the romance franchise for good.
Having fronted the Mike Fleiss-created The Bachelor and all its lucrative ABC spinoffs since 2002, Harrison will receive a rose of his own in the form of mid-range eight-figure payoff and promise to keep his mouth shut, I hear. The usual platitudes are expected to be exchanged for public consumption when the agreement is made public later today, but there is certainly no romance in the air behind the scenes.

Chris Harrison’s future with “The Bachelor” franchise remains in limbo, as the longtime host — who came under fire for racially insensitive comments — will sit out this summer’s season of “Bachelor in Paradise,” sources tell Variety.
The role will be filed by celebrity comedians — including David Spade — who will serve as guest hosts, according to those with knowledge of the plans. As of Wednesday, offers to celebrity talent were still being considered and Spade’s deal was the only one to have closed. Unlike the upcoming season of “The Bachelorette,” which premieres next week, “Bachelor in Paradise” will not be hosted by Bachelor Nation alums.
ABC and Warner Bros. TV declined to comment about Harrison’s involvement with “Bachelor in Paradise,” and his future status with “The Bachelor” franchise. The network and studio also declined to comment on Spade.

Matt James, star of “The Bachelor,” visited “Good Morning America” for his first interview after the turbulent finale of his season of the ABC dating show, which aired Monday night.
James spoke to “GMA” host Michael Strahan about the ongoing racial controversy surrounding his season of “The Bachelor,” franchise host Chris Harrison and season winner Rachael Kirkconnell
“It hit me like a ton of bricks. I felt the weight of everything that I was carrying throughout the season and with what we were dealing with as a country and having to explain that and why it was problematic to me and our relationship, which was extremely difficult,” James said.
On the Monday night finale, James gave his final rose to Kirkconnell — the controversial contestant who became embroiled in a racist scandal during the season of “The Bachelor” when past photos of her at an antebellum plantation-themed fraternity party surfaced on social media.

The Bachelor's Rachael Kirkconnell is facing the music during the After the Final Rose special. After the graphic designer was revealed on Monday, March 15 as the winner of Matt James' season, she sat down with host Emmanuel Acho, and later with Matt himself. The conversations stemmed from resurfaced photos of Rachael attending an Antebellum plantation-themed fraternity party and the ensuing controversy that led Matt to end their relationship shortly after the season finished shooting. When Emmanuel asked Rachael what went through her mind when seeing a photo of herself at the party, she explained that she now recognizes her previous "ignorance without even thinking about...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read until you’ve watched the March 15 episode of “The Bachelor” entitled “After The Final Rose.”
Usually, it’s “Bachelor” host Chris Harrison putting contestants in the hot seat on the “After The Final Rose” post-final episode of the ABC dating competition series, but following real-life scandal, he was the subject of tonight’s conversation, lead by guest host Emmanuel Acho.
Just days after it was announced that Harrison would not be returning for the upcoming season of “The Bachelorette,” Acho took an impressive star-making turn as he filled in on Monday night, engaging in thought-provoking, tough conversations about the dating show’s handling of race, inclusion and diversity.
Acho, the former NFL linebacker, best-selling author and host, sat down with “The Bachelor” star Matt James, who became the first-ever Black lead of the dating show in a season that was meant to be historic, but was overshadowed by racist controversy.

Matt James chose Rachael Kirkconnell as the recipient of his final rose on the season finale of “The Bachelor” on Monday — but within minutes, James recounted their breakup on the “After the Finale Rose” special with guest host Emmanuel Acho.
“You want to believe that you know your person better than anyone else knows your person,” James said, referencing resurfaced pictures of Kirkconnell at a plantation-themed party and other racially insensitive behavior. “I tried to be there for her … I dismissed them as rumors because that’s what I hoped they would be.”
Kirkconnell has publicly apologized for the posts, but James said he needed to “take a step back” from the relationship. “If you don’t understand that something like [that party] is problematic in 2018, there’s a lot of me you don’t understand. It’s as simple as that,” he said.
