The BBC, BritBox International, and Red Planet Pictures today announced that the popular series Beyond Paradise has been recommissioned for a 2024 Christmas special episode and third season, which will air on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer.
Since its debut last year, Beyond Paradise has become one of the UK’s most popular dramas, with episode one of the second season watched by 7.5 million viewers so far.
The second season, which culminated tonight, saw Humphrey and Martha very nearly tie the knot, while their fostering journey came to a heartwarming conclusion as they welcomed Ryan into their home. Aaron Sorkin is writing a new movie that could serve as a sequel to The Social Network.
The Oscar-winning screenwriter broke the news when he was asked during a live-from-d.C. edition of The Town podcast about how Facebook and social media have influenced democracy in the years since his 2010 hit.
“Look, yeah, I’ll be writing about this,” Sorkin told Matthew Belloni and Peter Hamby. “I blame Facebook for January 6.”
When asked why he blames a social media company for a pro-Donald Trump mob storming the U.S. Capitol, Sorkin replied, “You’re going to need to buy a movie ticket.”
Pressed if that means he’s writing this idea specifically as a movie, Sorkin replied, “I’m trying. Facebook has been, among other things, tuning its algorithm to promote the most divisive material possible. Because that is what will increase engagement. That is what will get you...

Exclusive: Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer is bulking up its Season 3 cast with 4 new actors joining the fold: Merrin Dungey, Allyn Moriyon, John Pirruccello and Philip Anthony-Rodriguez.
They join returning stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller, Becki Newton as Lorna, Jazz Raycole as Izzy, Angus Sampson as Cisco and Yaya DaCosta as Andrea Freemann. The recurring cast also includes Neve Campbell, Elliott Gould, Krista Warner, Fiona Rene and Devon Graye.
Dungey will portray Judge Regina Turner, a former public defender who is younger and more progressive than most judges in the district, but whether that’s a benefit to Mickey or not remains to be seen. Moriyon plays Eddie Rojas, a fitness buff who needs a very good lawyer. Luckily, Mickey can help him and then offers him the opportunity of a lifetime. Exclusive: Update 9.30 am, 1/27 Pt The producers of Daniel Espinosa’s Italy-set immigration drama Madame Luna have expressed “dismay” at a lawsuit lodged against them by filmmaker Binyam Berhane, who says they misappropriated an original story and material created by him for the film.
The lawsuit filed in L.A. County Superior Court last week is directed at David Herdies at Stockholm-based company Momento Film as well as Los Angeles-based Rhea Films and the Luxembourg-based Hercules Film Fund.
“It is with great dismay that we read Mr. Berhane’s version of events, which differs drastically from ours. Since a lawsuit has been filed we cannot go into the details of our defenses at this time. It is with sadness that the universal message of Madame Luna is being unfairly tarnished by this unnecessary litigation,” said Herdies in an emailed response.
Hercules Film Fund and Rhea Films issued a separate joint statement.

The Kansas City Chiefs new post-season promotional trailer spoofs Hallmark rom-coms — but it sneaks in multiple references to the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce romance.
The trailer, called “Falling for Football,” follows a football fan (Hallmark leading man Tyler Hynes) who meets cute with fellow Hallmark mainstay Janel Parrish.
The set-up follows a typical rom-com plot. Parrish, having been left at the altar by a football-loving fiance, has grown to hate the sport. But she falls for a guy who works in a Chiefs merchandise shop, a job he initially keeps secret, until the big reveal. “You’re not just a fan, it’s your livelihood!” she cries, giving Hynes an ultimatum. “It’s the Chiefs or me!” she demands. “I hate football!”
But thanks to some wise advise from Donna Kelce (the mom of a certain Chiefs tight end who dates a pop superstar), Parrish comes around and finds love with Hynes.

“We made something unfilmable, basically,” Ghosts co-creator Larry Rickard told the Rhlstp Podcast about the show’s unaired pilot. “Then we looked at it and said ‘that doesn’t work.’”
According to the Ghosts team, several things didn’t work about the mini-pilot, which was never intended for broadcast but as a way for them to figure out the show before making series one. Speaking to Den of Geek in October this year, Rickard explained:
“It was based on the pilot script that Mat [Baynton] and Jim [Howick] did, so basically episode one. It wasn’t the case of making an episode and then going, actually that doesn’t work, let’s start again. We were doing a taster, so we shot 12 minutes of material and then edited it together with voiceovers to fill in the missing bits of story so you could sort of watch it in a sequence and understand...

Larry Rickard doesn’t speak French. “I’m terrible with languages!” he tells Den of Geek. When a Ghosts series five storyline in episode four “En Francais” called for his caveman character to speak fluent French, Rickard had to learn his lines phonetically “from a very kind French friend of the producer who recorded everything.”
The result was impressive. To the surprise of the viewers and the Button House ghosts – who’d just reached the point of thinking their afterlives held no more surprises – Robin turned out to be a talented linguist.
“The speech centre of his brain is tiny,” explains Rickard, “but what he’s had is a lot of time to see a lot of stuff, so, he sounds dim but he’s actually smart.”

Warning: contains spoilers for Ghosts series 5.
Ghosts very nearly had a musical episode. The creators of the BBC comedy talked about it for a long time, says Larry Rickard, co-writer and the man behind the show’s caveman ghost Robin and headless Humphrey. The gang knew they wanted to do a deeply earnest love song, but couldn’t quite make the idea mesh.
“At one point we had a full day on it, but it felt like whichever direction we tried taking the story in to justify the conceit, we ended up at odds with each other over how the plot would then work around it, and how you would justify the songs being there without it feeling like it was a different show. You reach an event horizon of trying so hard to make it work that you realise this isn’t natural and this isn’t us.”

Warning: contains plot details for Ghosts series five episode two “Home”, and smut.
BBC One’s Ghosts is one of the few TV shows around that has successfully blurred the line between adult and child viewing. Kids love it, adults love it, and it’s long been appointment viewing for families doing that (almost miraculous in 2023) thing of gathering together around the same screen.
Making Ghosts’ comedy suitable for a mixed-age audience though, means keeping an eye on its adult content. The ruder gags need to be blink-and-you’ll-miss-them and cheeky, but never crass. The sordid circumstances of Julian’s 1990s Tory MP sex scandal death for instance, or Lady Button’s husband’s “Moroccan tea party” with two members of his household staff, are alluded to but never made explicit. The same goes for caveman Robin’s romantic exploits over the centuries, and his (cough) close relationship with his sister.

Warning: this article contains major Spoilers for all five series of Ghosts
So the fifth and final series of critically acclaimed BBC sitcom Ghosts is out, and it’s the end of an era, but thankfully the show has bowed out with a flurry of important questions being answered.
This comedy, created by and starring many of the team behind Horrible Histories, has earned itself a dedicated and enthusiastic fandom (as well as an American remake on CBS) thanks largely to its heartwarming ensemble performance.
The majority of the characters are ghosts from various eras, but at first it wasn’t clear how any of them had died. One of the show’s many charms is that over the five series it gradually drip-fed us the hilarious and often lowkey heartbreaking back-stories of these lovable ghosts one by one, but we went into series five with the fate of two...

Somehow, the final series of Ghosts has neatly tied up all the show’s loose ends while still leaving us wanting more – which is a jolly good thing considering they’ve confirmed we’re getting one more Christmas special in December 2023.
They really packed a lot into those last six episodes, revealing the heartbreaking truth behind the deaths of Kitty and the Captain, showing Alison and Mike’s next step in life, and giving the whole gang the opportunity to say all the lovely, touching things fans wanted to hear (as well as adding a poignant reference to Mary in the opening credits).
Taking the characters on these final journeys involved lots of flashbacks and new faces, so let’s recap all the most important guest stars from series five:

Warning: major (or should that be captain?) series 5 spoilers. Avoid unless you’ve already streamed “Pineapple Day” And “Carpe Diem”.
Bespoke portraits, fake teeth, Mike’s monocle and the Button House sign… all treasures taken home from set by the creators of Ghosts after finishing the final series. Of the souvenirs chosen to commemorate five happy years spent making one of the UK’s best-loved comedies, one in particular has taken on extra poignancy.
Ben Willbond plays Ghosts’ WWII officer, a character (until now) known only as The Captain. Speaking at the BFI Southbank launch of the final series in September, Willbond told the crowd that his chosen filming souvenirs were taken from The Captain’s costume: a medal ribbon band and military stick, items for which Willbond plans to have a presentation box made.
In series five, The Captain’s military baton was given a backstory that merits the special treatment.

“Birthdays or chicken?” Jim Howick asks Simon Farnaby on stage at the BFI Southbank. The first two episodes of Ghosts’ new series have just screened to a packed auditorium, where they were met by a reception that was – what’s a bigger word than rapturous? Euphoric? The place is happy, anyway, very happy. From the ticket queue to the ladies’ loos, there’s jolliness around. In the press seats, old hacks agree that they rarely bother coming out for events anymore, but this is Ghosts. You come out for Ghosts.
The fans have come out for Ghosts in style. There are multiple Pats, dressed in Youth Adventure Club uniforms complete with neck arrows, seated for the post-screening Q&a. A huge group is wearing party hats because it’s Martha Howe-Douglas’ birthday, and the entire room will later sing Happy Birthday to the Lady Button actor. And then they’ll immediately sing it again,...

The Lincoln Lawyer has won its case for a third season. Netflix has renewed the David E. Kelley legal drama for another round.
The series — which is based on the book series by author Michael Connelly — will have another 10 episodes. The next season will be based on the fifth Lincoln Lawyer novel, The Gods of Guilt.
The show follows Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) “an iconoclastic idealist, [who] runs his law practice out of the back seat of his Lincoln, as he takes on cases big and small across the expansive city of Los Angeles.”
In addition to Garcia-Rulfo, Becki Newton (Lorna), Jazz Raycole (Izzy), Angus Sampson (Cisco) and Yaya DaCosta (Andrea Freemann), among others, will reprise their roles in season three.
One notable name not returning as a regular: Neve Campbell, who had a diminished role in the second season and whose character accepted a new job in a different city in the finale.

A “small fire” at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood prompted cancellations of last night’s and tonight’s performances of Les Miserables, according to theater officials.
Firefighters arrived at the Hollywood Blvd. landmark shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday and found smoke in an electrical room and a lesser amount of smoke in a backstage area, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
No fire was found by the firefighters, who were told by theater staff that a there had been an earlier problem with a transformer, Humphrey said. No injuries were reported.
“Due to an electrical outage, which caused a small fire at the Hollywood Pantages, Les Miserables performances on (Thursday and Friday) have been Canceled,” read a statement posted on social media.
“While we are grateful that nobody was harmed, the building did sustain minor damage, which we are addressing,” according to the statement. “We apologize for the inconvenience.

This article contains spoilers for The Lincoln Lawyer seasons 1 and 2.
It is a tumultuous time in Hollywood currently. The Writer’s Guild of America has now surpassed 100 days of strike action, and SAG-AFTRA is showing solidarity right beside them. Many television and film productions have been put on hiatus, which begs the question – has The Lincoln Lawyer even been renewed at this juncture?
Ted Humphrey, showrunner for the Netflix hit, confirmed that he and his writing team had already been working on a season 3 before the WGA began their strike action. An official renewal has not been announced, and there may be a delay in production for obvious reasons, but chances still look good we’ll see Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) and his team again. And thanks to the precedent set by the Mickey Haller book series, we have a good idea of what to expect from season 3.

The Lincoln Lawyer fans were dismayed to see Neve Campbell’s character, Maggie McPherson, in a decreased role in season 2 of Netflix’s legal thriller. Some viewers worried that the iconic scream queen was planning an exit from the show completely. An exit would force the storyline to deviate significantly from its source material. While we don’t know what the future holds for the series just yet, it looks like Campbell might be on screen more often in season 3 if it does happen. So, why did she step away in season 2?
Why wasn’t Neve Campbell in much of season 2 of ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’?
Campbell’s reduced screen time on season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer had nothing to do with the character or plans to write her out. It would be nearly impossible to do so. Since The Lincoln Lawyer is based on Michael Connelly’s books about Mickey Haller.

Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) might not be working out of his car anymore, but that doesn’t mean he’s no longer the Lincoln Lawyer on the Netflix series based on Michael Connelly’s books. Plus, that could change if there is a third season (the streaming service has yet to renew the drama). “It is something that we’ll see him going back to,” The Lincoln Lawyer co-showrunner Ted Humphrey tells TV Insider. “To me, he’s still the Lincoln Lawyer because he spends so much time in the Lincoln, and we shoot so much in it.” Moving Mickey into an office came about for a simple “cinematic” reason: This is a television show. “You need to have a place to put scenes and the inside of that car can get pretty claustrophobic after a while,” Humphrey explains. “Also you need a place to set scenes with the other...

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the BBC sitcom Ghosts
One of the best things about BBC sitcom Ghosts is the way the cast welcomes viewers into its heartwarming friendship circle, and makes us feel like one of the gang. They might be one of the tightest ensembles in the business, but there’s a definite generosity of spirit (pun intended) in Ghosts, and a “the more the merrier” vibe.
Perhaps this is why there’ve been so many memorable guest stars. The show easily attracts superstar-level names as well as giving a well-earned platform to some of the UK’s rising comedy stars. While we eagerly await Ghosts fifth – and sadly final – series, let’s remind ourselves of some of the show’s best guest appearances:
Jennifer Saunders

Netflix has dropped the trailer for the second half of The Lincoln Lawyer and…no surprise, Mickey Haller survives that brutal beating.
But will he win the case involving the gorgeous restaurateur played by Lana Parrilla?
In a departure from the first season of The Lincoln Lawyer, Netflix dropped five episodes from the second season this month, with plans to stream the remaining five on Aug. 3. Season 2 is based on Michael Connelly’s fourth book in the Lincoln Lawyer series called “The Fifth Witness.”

There are precious few cinematic romances that can hold a candle to Rick Blaine and Ilsa Lund in 1942's "Casablanca." It's a relationship that rekindles after heartbreak and is filled to the brim with complications far beyond the usual romantic drama scope. When Ilsa re-enters Rick's life, he's a bit bitter after being left flat with little more than a Dear John letter. He resents being hurt and has lived his life determined to wall off his emotions so that never happens again.
To further complicate things, Ilsa happens to be traveling with her husband, a resistance leader named Victor Lazlo (Paul Henreid), who was believed to have been killed by the Nazis but is very much alive and still fighting the good fight. But Rick and Ilsa's love is deep and real and the two can't help but fall back to their old emotions around each other, even as...

On the silver screen, the genre of magic realism has been crowded chock full of good movies, even franchises that have gained cult followings, as the genre retains its charm by projecting the wider, unshackled scope of imagination to the viewers, thereby evoking a sense of awe and wonder. Stan’s latest release, “The Portable Door,” adapted from the fantasy novel series “J.W. Wells and Co.” written by Tom Holt, desperately tries to replicate the charm but fails to offer anything new that genre fans haven’t seen already and offers so little in the way of worldbuilding that viewers themselves will ask for an exposition dump. Flaunting a rather heavy cast with the likes of Christoph Waltz, Sam Neil, Miranda Otto, and Patrick Gibson on board, the movie fails to justify the big names in the roles that the makers didn’t bother fleshing out even the basics of.

You is one of the most popular shows on Netflix — and for good reason. Penn Badgley thoroughly inhabits the role of Joe Goldberg, a serial killer who develops deep obsessions with a series of different people. The show debuted on Lifetime before switching over to Netflix, and these days, You is one of the hottest programs in rotation, with an all-new season now streaming. However, long before Badgley was impressing people with his work as a creepy serial killer, he was breaking hearts as the character of Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl. In a recent interview with Elle, Badgley opened up about both of his iconic characters, admitting that he believes Dan Humphrey and Joe Goldberg would “hate” each other.
