Iconic Nickelodeon series “SpongeBob SquarePants” has never been afraid to get weird — see the episode where vampire Nosferatu pranks the Krusty Krab or the time SpongeBob and his friends nearly got killed by a live-action gorilla. But this January, the show is really embracing its freak flag with “The Tidal Zone,” a new three-part special that sees the reality of Bikini Bottom dissolve before the sea creature’s eyes.
According to an ad released by Nickelodeon, the special sees the reality of the main series merge with those of its two spinoff series, both of which premiered last year: “The Patrick Star Show,” which focuses on SpongeBob’s best friend hosting a talk show with his family, and the Paramount+ kids series “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years,” about younger versions of the main show’s cast attending summer camp. Updated with Saturday schedule: After a two-year in-person hiatus due to Covid, San Diego Comic-Con is raging back with a big footprint by streaming, TV and, well, as far as big screen feature films, let’s just say they’re creeping back.
Marvel will make some big waves with its upcoming new movies (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and Disney+ series (She-Hulk), but it will keep some powder dry for D23 in early September. Dwayne Johnson will be booming with New Line/DC’s Black Adam, along with Shazam: Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi. However, while Sony will be skipping as the Spider-Verse animated sequel is set for next year. Paramount will be giving fans an early look at Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. And there’s Kevin Smith with Clerks III.

Kids first got to fall in love with the ever-bubbly and porous SpongeBob SquarePants back when the Stephen Hillenberg-created show launched on Nickelodeon the summer of ’99. Twenty-two years later, those now-adult fans and their children will get to experience SpongeBob before he was perennially donning a tie and flipping patties at the Krusty Krab, having nautical, nonsensical fun at summer camp.
Today, Nickelodeon and Paramount Plus (the soon to be rebranded CBS All Access) dropped a six-minute sneak peek of the all-new “SpongeBob SquarePants” prequel, “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years” during the slimy, family-friendly halftime presentation of the NFL wild card game Sunday on Nickelodeon. The CG-animated spinoff series follows a 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants and his pint-sized marine pals (think a brace-faced Sandy Cheeks), as they sing by the waterlogged campfire and swim by the kelp forest in Lake Yuckymuck.

Nickelodeon debuted the first sneak peek from the upcoming “SpongeBob SquarePants” prequel series “Kamp Koral” on Sunday, giving a first look at the 3D-animated versions of the beloved undersea characters.
The clip, which debuted during Nick’s broadcast of the NFL Wild Card Game, sees a 10-year-old SpongeBob raring for his first “jellyfishing” outing at sleepaway camp. Unfortunately, the young sponge has less luck than he’d probably hoped for.
The clip is taken from the series premiere, titled “The Jellyfish Kid,” in which a young SpongeBob is determined to catch his first jellyfish and his friends do whatever they can to help him.
“Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years” is the first of two “SpongeBob SquarePants” spinoffs in the pipeline, though “Kamp Koral” won’t air on Nickelodeon. Instead, the prequel will drop on the soon-to-be-rebranded Paramount+ streaming service, where it will live alongside the film “The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

Patrick Star is about to become the star of his own show.
A “SpongeBob Squarepants” spinoff series centered around SpongeBob’s pink friend is in the works at Nickelodeon, Variety has confirmed with sources. “The Patrick Star Show” will see Bill Fagerbakke continue to voice the character.
The series will be a deep dive on Patrick and his family, as the friendly starfish hosts a talk show. Precisely which other “SpongeBob” actors will be reprising their characters for this new series is unclear, however, sources say it will introduce several new characters voiced by new actors to the “SpongeBob” underwater universe.
A representative for Nickelodeon declined to comment.
This marks the second “SpongeBob” spinoff to float its way to Nickelodeon, following in the spongesteps of “Kamp Koral,” a CG-animated prequel series which was greenlit over a year ago. That series, which is set to premiere on CBS All Access next year,...

The “Spongebob” prequel series “Kamp Koral” is moving from Nickelodeon to CBS All Access, where it will debut next year as part of the rebranded service.
The series will see a 10-year-old SpongeBob during his summer at the eponymous camp. In the series, SpongeBob and his pals spend the summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral. “SpongeBob SquarePants'” Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller will co-executive produce the prequel.
It won’t be a 2-dimensional cartoon like the flagship “SpongeBob.” It will instead be computer-generated animation. As SpongeBob SquarePants fields 20th anniversary festivities, he can also celebrate Nickelodeon’s renewal for Season 13 of his show.
SpongeBob SquarePants Season 13 is officially set at Nickelodeon.
Sure, the SpongeBob SquarePants renewal is not the most surprising news ever delivered, seeing as the venerable undersea cartoon series is currently in the midst of a pop culture bacchanal of media exposure, with a year-long celebration of the franchise’s 1999 inception set to manifest with major – 1,800 square-feet-spanning – interactive plans at Comic-Con this week. Indeed, the event heralds an imminent multimedium blitz that includes a spinoff series, a prequel series and a third feature film, The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge, set for next year. It's certainly a bittersweet high for the franchise after creator Stephen Hillenburg's passing last November.

I’ve got exiting news for all the Spongebob SquarePants fans of the world! The animated series has been keeping kids and adults super entertained all these years and Nickelodeon is going to keep it rolling! They’ve ordered a 13-episode 13th Season and that makes me super happy.

The series was also recently nominated for Outstanding Short Form Animated Program Emmy award for the SpongeBob SquarePants episode“Plankton Paranoia”. Nickelodeon’s hit “SpongeBob Square-Pants” moved out of its own adolescence earlier this year when the animated series turned 20 in May. But the celebration of the modern classic about under-the-sea adventures is continuing well into next year as a “love letter” to the show’s creator, says Ramsey Naito, Nickelodeon executive vice president of animation production and development.
“Time flies,” says Naito. “I remember meeting Stephen Hillenburg in 1998 when we were both getting coffee at a coffee machine when he was just starting.”
Hillenburg, who was a marine biology teacher before stepping into the world of animation, created “SpongeBob” based on some of his own experience seeing children’s awe at sponges and starfish. The series became Nickelodeon’s first original Saturday morning cartoon, debuting in May 1999. Hillenburg unfortunately passed away from complications from Als in November 2018 at age 57, before getting to see his beloved series hit this milestone — festivities...

Still Tbd whether Paramount will be showing footage down there from its upcoming animated feature The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge, but it wouldn’t be a shocker. The movie opens on May 22, 2020.
The “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout” panel will take a deep dive into the series with co-executive producers Vincent Waller and Marc Ceccarelli and voice actors Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Carolyn Lawrence(Sandy), Mr. Lawrence (Plankton) and Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs) as they talk about what it’s been like to portray their characters in front of the camera for the first time in this live action-animation hybrid special.

SpongeBob SquarePants’s 20th anniversary will be the center of Nickelodeon’s grandiose Comic-Con presence this year.
SpongeBob SquarePants is turning 20 soon; a fact that Nickelodeon has spent much of the year reminding the world in celebratory jubilance. Besides the July 20 special, SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout!, the diminutive dweller of a pineapple under the sea has lined up another movie, a confirmed prequel series and even possible spinoffs. However, San Diego Comic-Con will be the backdrop for a more ephemeral experience to celebrate said birthday, with Nickelodeon promising a party unlike anything else for convention attendees.
Nickelodeon is transforming the floor of Comic-Con into SpongeBob’s undersea hamlet home, Bikini Bottom! – Well, 1800 square feet of said floor, anyway. Indeed, Comic-Con International: San Diego July 18-21, 2019 will see the channel – in addition to an array of meet-and-greets, signings and giveaways – host an interactive experience for its...

Annecy, France — Having traveled from the floor of Bikini Bottom to the shores of Lake Annecy in France, SpongeBob SquarePants is kicking off his 20th year at Europe’s most important animation festival with a Nickelodeon panel and accompanying sneak peek of the upcoming special “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout.”
A few lucky Annecy Intl. Animation Film Festival attendees who waited online to score tickets for the rapidly sold-out panel will be the first in the world to see the special, which will release worldwide on the slimy orange network on July 12.
The accompanying panel will include Nickelodeon and SpongeBob vets including co-executive producers Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller, producer Jennie Monica and writer Kaz Prapuolenis.
The special is a mix of traditional 2D animated and live action scenes, on a par with 2004’s “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie,” and even features a cameo from one of the film’s live action superstars.

What was Spongebob up to before his adventures with Patrick and his capers at the Krusty Krab? A prequel series to the iconic animation, which has been greenlit at Nickelodeon, may provide some answers.
The prospective new show, titled “Kamp Koral,” is a CG-animated series which introduces viewers to a 10-year-old SpongeBob during his summer at sleepaway camp. The 13-episode series is slated to begin production at the kids network in June.
“SpongeBob has an incredible universe to expand upon and the greenlight for ‘Kamp Koral’ is a testament to the strength and longevity of these characters known and loved by generations of fans around the world,” said Ramsey Naito, Evp of animation production and development at Nickelodeon.

The underwater exploits of SpongeBob’s summer camp childhood exploits will be the focus of a new Nickelodeon prequel series.
SpongeBob SquarePants has plenty of projects – a year-long birthday bash, a special featuring the voice cast in live-action form, another movie and even prospective spinoff shows – on his franchise backlog during the porous Pollyannaish pineapple-dweller’s 20th anniversary. However, Nickelodeon has another entry to offer, a prequel series set to focus on a 10-year-old version of the character during a stay at summer sleepaway camp.
Tentatively titled Kamp Koral, Nickelodeon has officially greenlit the young-Sponge-Bob prequel series for a 13-episode run, reports Deadline. Unlike the mothership show, the prequel will manifest as a CGI-concocted series, though will remain 2D. According to the description, the prequel will focus on SpongeBob’s stay at “the craziest camp in the kelp forest,” Kamp Koral, where he’ll spend the summer “building underwater campfires,...

Nickelodeon has ordered a prequel series to its longrunning cartoon, “SpongeBob SquarePants” that will follow a young Spongebob during sleepaway camp.
The series, titled “Kamp Koral” will see a 10-year-old SpongeBob during his summer the eponymous camp. In the series, SpongeBob and his pals spend the summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral. “SpongeBob SquarePants” Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller will co-executive produce the prequel.
Oh, and it won’t be a 2-dimensional cartoon like the flagship “SpongeBob,” but instead computer-generated animation. This won’t be the first time “SpongeBob” gets the 3-D treatment. The 2015 movie “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” was also CG-animated.
The series is one of multiple planned spinoffs for the “SpongeBob” universe, which include potential standalone stories...
