Exclusive: Black Bear’s management arm has signed Danish-American actor Elliott Crosset Hove for representation.
Hove is best known for the well-received Danish/Icelandic feature Godland, which premiered in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival last year.
His lauded performance in the picture earned him Best Male Actor at Denmark’s 2023 Bodil Awards, as well as a Best Actor nomination at the European Film Awards.
Hove’s previous feature roles include Rasmus Heisterberg’s 2016 feature film In the Blood, for which Hove was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Bodil Awards, and Hlynur Pálmason’s Winter Brothers, which won him a Danish Robert Award and Best Actor at the Locarno Film Festival. He has also appeared in Journal 64, Before the Frost, Parents and Wildland.
Most recently, Hove starred in Katrine Brocks’ The Great Silence and Simon Jaquemet’s Electric Child, which is currently in post-production, alongside Rila Fukushima.

They say that opposites attract, and there's no greater proof than the enviably-named Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and her bubbly girlfriend Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna). Negasonic debuted her explosive powers in the first "Deadpool" movie, and she was joined in the 2018 sequel by Yukio, who had previously been played by Rila Fukushima in "The Wolverine," but has since undergone a complete makeover of her look, personality, powers, and, well, pretty much everything except her name. Blame the timeline.
Speaking of messed-up timelines, Deadpool's place in the space-time continuum is about to get even more funky as he transitions into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for "Deadpool 3." But at least he won't be alone; Deadline reports that both Hildebrand and Kutsuna have now closed deals to return in "Deadpool 3," which will be directed by Shawn Levy. At least we can rest assured that there'll be someone in the room to say "Hi,...

Even as the comic-book universes do their part with a panopoly of multiracial characters, superhero movies fail to keep up. Box office triumphs from Disney’s Marvel and Warner Bros. Discovery’s DC overwhelmingly center on white, heterosexual, male superheroes, even though it’s been confirmed (and reconfirmed) that diversity sells.
There’s some progress: On the horizon are Destin Daniel Cretton’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” a “Ms. Marvel” Disney+ series starring Marvel’s first Muslim character to headline her own comic book, and the Chloé Zhao-directed “Eternals.” On the DC side, Angel Manuel Soto (“Charm City Kings”) will direct “Blue Beetle,” the studio’s first Latinx superhero movie, but there’s room for much more. Each sequel, prequel, and spin-off provides an opportunity for the introduction of new, original characters of color that could shake up the superhero landscape.

Disney Plus is adding an underrated Marvel movie this week. On New Year’s Day, the Mouse House’s streaming service will debut yet another film from the X-Men franchise that Disney inherited from Fox. While we’re still waiting to find out how the studio handles the R-rated Logan, January 1st sees its predecessor, 2013’s The Wolverine, become available to stream for subscribers in the US and other territories.
Hugh Jackman’s second solo outing as the immortal antihero has Logan travel to Japan when he’s summoned by an elderly businessman who he saved during World War II. Sucked into a shadowy realm of yakuza and samurai, Wolverine is pushed to the emotional and physical brink as he faces his own mortality for the first time. Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada and Famke Janssen co-star.

The Wolverine was quietly removed from Disney Plus this week. The Mouse House’s streaming service has been periodically adding Fox’s Marvel movies to its library over the past 12 months, but the problem with these older films is that they usually come with pre-existing rights deals that have to be fulfilled. That’s what’s happened in this case, as though the Hugh Jackman vehicle went up on D+ in September, it’s now been taken down.
Unlike other streaming services, Disney Plus doesn’t tend to advertise when titles leave, but we can assume in the case of The Wolverine that it’s down to a previous licensing agreement which needs to play out before it can return to the platform at a later date. This only applies in the US, by the way, as those in other territories will still be able to catch the movie on the site.

If you’ve been keeping up with recent news pertaining to the series, then there’s a very good chance you’ve heard about how Emily Bett Rickards will return as Felicity Smoak for the finale. Not long after that, consulting producer Marc Guggenheim teased more pals joining her for the sendoff, and we’ve actually already gotten one confirmation in that regard.

Despite the fact that we’ll have to wait until Arrow actually premieres in order to find out the specifics of the mission the Monitor is sending Oliver Queen on, advance promotional materials are allowing for us to piece together the puzzle. And with the second episode set to air this fall being only three weeks away, the network has released a hearty helping of images taken from “Welcome to Hong Kong.”
Now, as most of us have figured, Ollie will be replaying his greatest hits by either hopping through the multiverse or by means of time travel. Either way, it’s the Monitor who’ll enable him. If you require confirmation of his involvement beyond the premiere, then simply reference the gallery below. Whatever Oliver is doing in Hong Kong has to do with Mar-Novu’s agenda, and I can’t wait to find out what that is.

The CW’s Arrow is gearing up for its eighth season, which will also be its last. As the heroes of Star City prepare for their final outing together, it seems that every major character from the past is going to make a return. Dubbed something of a “Greatest Hits” season, everyone from Ollie’s sister Thea, or Speedy, as played by Willa Holland, to Rila Fukushima’s Katana, will be included.
One notable exception to this has been fan favorite character, and the Emerald Archer’s protégé, Roy Harper, or Arsenal. Colton Haynes first appeared on the program as the Harper during the rookie season as a love interest for Thea Queen. He would eventually turn to vigilantism though with Arrow and become an integral part of the team.

Based on what the producers have been telling us for the past few months, Arrow‘s eighth and final season will essentially replay the greatest hits of the series by revisiting its earlier years. Right now, we can only fathom what this means, though we can’t rule out the possibilities of time travel and/or journeying to alternate universes.
As such, a handful of fan favorites have already been confirmed for another tour of duty this fall, as Josh Segarra and Colin Donnell will return as Adrian Chase and Tommy Merlyn, respectively, and Rila Fukushima will slip back into the role of Katana shortly thereafter. And if that weren’t enough, they’ll be joined by John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn) and Susanna Thompson (Moira Queen), with the highly demanded return of Willa Holland as Thea Queen rounding things out.

Well, thanks to the following image supplied by IGN, we’re able to see that Moira Queen and Malcolm Merlyn are an item in the eighth season premiere, “Starling City.” Furthermore, Oliver Queen himself can be found in the photo as well.

Arrow season 8 is set to bring back numerous old faces from the show’s past, just before it comes to an end. The saga of the Green Arrow has given us a lot of fan favorite characters who’ve come and gone over the years, and it seems like as many of them as possible will feature in the series’ final hours. Chief among them is Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell), who hasn’t been a regular since season 1, though he’s made the occasional guest appearance over the years.
Donnell’s return for season 8 was revealed last month, but now star Stephen Amell has given us our first look at Tommy in the upcoming run. The star shared a snap of a screen playing the season premiere, which unveils a bearded Donnell. So, we know he’s going to be back in the opener.

Arrow season 8 seems to be less of a typical final run and more of a victory lap that’ll celebrate how far The CW has come over the years. When it was revealed just yesterday that Colton Haynes won’t be returning for Arrow‘s eighth and final season, I’m sure that a lot of hearts sank. Suffice it to say, Roy Harper has caught on as one of the show’s most popular supporting characters, as he’s garnered much support over the years.
To briefly sum up his history, Roy first appeared in season 1, then played a more prominent role in seasons 2 and 3 by eventually emerging as the hero known as Arsenal. Then, Haynes departed from the show and came back for a few guest shots here and there, before being restored to series regular status in season 7. Now, the cycle seemingly repeats itself.

Takashi Miike has recently turned towards manga/anime adaptations, with, mostly, impressive results, as his aesthetics seem to fit perfectly to these mediums. This time, he adapts Yu Sasuga’s homonymous, shounen manga, which has sold more than 14 million copies since 2011.
During the 21st century, scientists decided to make Mars a planet that could be inhabited in the future. The solution they came up with was to terraform its ground by spreading special algae with the help of cockroaches that would spread the substance all over the planet. During the 21st century, scientists decided to make Mars a planet that could be inhabited in the future. The solution they came up with was to terraform its ground by spreading special algae with the help of cockroaches that would spread the substance all over the planet. The government decides to send an exterminating team, which fails miserably (the script does not refer much to them). Rila Fukushima almost seems to be made for comic book roles since she has the kind of look and attitude that has helped her fulfill such roles with great skill. That being said however she’s also a very dedicated actress that is kind of still paying her dues and yet doing such a great job that she deserves a lot of credit for hanging in there with some of the best in the business and creating her own solid and very stable career. It was always only a matter of time until modern Hollywood resigned itself to remaking anime. Which isn’t to suggest that the uniquely Japanese medium is somehow unworthy of being used as fodder for Western blockbusters — on the contrary, anime has provided some of the most progressive, adventurous, and visionary filmmaking of the last 30 years — but rather to acknowledge the palpable whiff of inevitability with which Paramount is releasing “Ghost in the Shell.”
It’s not like studio executives are obsessive fans of the franchise, it’s not like former Paramount CEO Brad Grey bought every new DVD of “Stand Alone Complex” as it was released in the United States and can walk you through every detail of the Laughing Man case, it’s not like the people in power were just patiently waiting for the entertainment climate to warm up to the idea of a star-studded Major Kusanagi...

"It won't stop until they control everyone." Opening in theaters everywhere worldwide this weekend is the live-action Ghost in the Shell movie, based on the popular manga/anime, starring Scarlett Johansson as the human-cyborg Major. To give the movie one final push, Paramount has released this final trailer, featuring tons of VFX-polished futuristic footage. The sci-fi action movie also stars Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, Michael Wincott, Rila Fukushima, Chin Han, plus Takeshi Kitano, Joseph Naufahu, with Pilou Asbæk as Batou. I'm glad to hear the original music in this trailer, and see new footage of her fighting the tank robot. I'm planning to watch this movie this week, still hopeful it's actually good after all. Here's the final official trailer (+ posters) for Rupert Sanders' Ghost in the Shell, direct from YouTube: You can still see the first trailer or second trailer for Ghost in the Shell, plus the Mamoru Oshii featurette.

It has certainly not been a smooth road for Paramount’s release of “Ghost in the Shell,” to say the least. Criticized as yet another example of Hollywood whitewashing, the Scarlett Johansson-led film has faced nothing but controversy leading up to its March 31 release date.
While Johansson’s casting has been decried by many — including George Takei and Margaret Cho — one notable defender has been the original director of the classic 1995 anime version, Mamoru Oshii. In an interview with IGN, Oshii voiced his approval of Johansson and displeasure with fans who took issue with her portrayal of The Major.
“What issue could there possibly be with casting her?” Oshii asked. “The Major is a cyborg and her physical form is an entirely assumed one. The name ‘Motoko Kusanagi’ and her current body are not her original name and body, so there is no basis for saying that an Asian actress must portray her.

"They created her, but they cannot control her." Paramount has just debuted the second official trailer for Rupert Sanders' live-action Ghost in the Shell movie, based on the original manga series. We've already seen one trailer and the Super Bowl spot, but this new one is even better. Also starring Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, Michael Wincott, Rila Fukushima, Chin Han, plus filmmaker Takeshi Kitano, Joseph Naufahu, with Pilou Asbæk as Batou. It looks like they're polishing the VFX and it looks great so far. Plus it's awesome to see they're including the tank fight in this. Fire it up. Last year, the casting of Scarlett Johansson to play the lead in “Ghost in the Shell,” a live-action adaptation of the classic Japanese anime series centered around Major Motoko Kusanagi, was met with controversy and backlash. Hiring a white actress to play a Japanese character seemed to critics and fans of Masamune Shirow’s iconic franchise like another case of whitewashing.
Now the actress in the center of the controversy has once more addressed the issue. “I certainly would never presume to play another race of a person,” said Johansson in a recent interview with Marie Claire. “Diversity is important in Hollywood, and I would never want to feel like I was playing a character that was offensive.”

Though Hollywood currently has several magna adaptations in the works, Alita: Battle Angel, Adam Wingard’s Death Note and the long-rumored Akira reboot, to name but a few, it’s Rupert Sanders’ Ghost in the Shell that seemingly has people most excited. The Hollywood adaptation of the sci-fi classic Ghost in the Shell will hit theatres on March 31, 2017. Executive producer Michael Costigan says that the upcoming live-action will be faithful to the manga. Although, producer Avi Arad says that they will pick and choose what elements they’ll include from the source manga or the previous TV and film adaptations.
In an interview for Collider.com, Arad sheds light on the movie’s plot:
“It involves Kuze. The Kuze story. The big thing we are doing here is that we’re not necessarily doing an origins backstory, but we are addressing her sense of self and resolving how she defines herself in terms of memories. That’s one of the main thrusts in the story. Inspired by that episode of Affection in Second Gig. It’s bits and pieces of those mixed together.”

Cloaked in some form of invisible technology, the leader of Section 9 truly looks the part as she begins to crack down on the city’s crime levels, and the fact that this teaser contains a nod to ‘Tokyo 11.13’ leads us to believe that the full trailer reveal is right around the corner. Stay tuned for more on that one.

With Scarlett Johansson’s name on the masthead, Ghost in the Shell is perhaps the most buzzworthy of Hollywood’s in-development manga adaptations. It’s also much further along than Alita: Battle Angel, Adam Wingard’s Death Note and the long-rumored Akira reboot, with a release date already pinned down for late March.
Cries of whitewashing notwithstanding, that means there’s a hushed excitement swirling around the Rupert Sanders-directed feature, not least because it’ll have Johansson flaunting her action skills once more as Major Motoko Kusanagi, an elite cyborg who spearheads a military team known as Section 9. With an international ensemble in tow, Sanders has pulled together all the necessary ingredients for a crowd-pleasing actioner – on paper, at least – but while chatting to Collider, Scarlett Johansson dove a little deeper to discuss the director’s world-building process.

Section 9 is suited and booted in a new wave of photos for Paramount’s live-action Ghost in the Shell adaptation.
Casting light on the movie’s diverse cast, these leaked images were first unveiled by anime giant Crunchyroll and find Scarlett Johansson as Major Motoko Kusanagi, while Game of Thrones star Pilou Asbæk assumes the role of cybernetic ninja, Batou. What leads us to believe that these pics are the real deal is the fact that the hairstyles of Johansson, Asbæk and their co-stars match up with those glimpsed across previous set photos taken on the streets of Hong Kong. We await confirmation from Paramount nonetheless.
Based on Masamune Shirow’s beloved manga series, it’s no secret that Ghost in the Shell has received a lot of flak for its casting process. Addressing those white-washing claims, producer Steven Paul noted that Paramount’s feature is...

It’s the tail end of the twenty-first century and Earth has nearly overstayed its welcome with dwindling resources and over-population. Scientists believe they can release the CO2 pockets underneath Mars’ surface and move the Red Planet from -50 degrees Celsius into a human-friendly temperature and atmosphere. So mankind sends rockets of moss and cockroaches to commence the process, a half-century passing before a team of colonists can finally journey forth. Everything should be ready for this hand-selected group under Ko Honda’s (Shun Oguri) supervision: go to Mars, kill the cockroaches, and return home with stories of our salvation via a new frontier. It sounds so simple and yet no one is prepared for what they’ll find because no one but Honda and the Japanese government know the truth.
That itself is a wild premise ripe for science fiction fun, but manga creators Yû Sasuga and Kenichi Tachibana are hardly finished.
