So last night the Deadpool movie marketing folks tricked me into watching The Bachelor’s season premiere by teasing a Deadpool TV spot during the time slot. And the first thing I want to say about it is… twenty seasons, you guys? This show has been on for twenty seasons? Man, our culture’s addiction to reality TV really is sad. As is the lack of dignity inherent in the show’s premise.
That said, it is kind of addictive. I mean, even after the Deadpool slot aired, I couldn’t stop watching. Why? Because, seriously, these Bachelor contestants are quite possibly crazier than Deadpool ever was. I mean, in just one episode as the contestants were introduced we had a dentist wearing a red rose hat that was bigger than her head who then proceeded to actually give the Bachelor (Ben) a mini dental exam right there; a woman...

Jackie Earle Haley, the last actor to wear and use Freddy Krueger’s iconic finger knives on screen, highlights the list of notable performers who will voice characters in Bethesda’s upcoming survival horror title, The Evil Within. Haley, who also played Rorschach in Hollywood’s adaptation of The Watchmen, has been outed as the game’s main villain, Ruvik. His opponent, Detective Sebastian Castellanos, will be portrayed by Anson Mount of Hell on Wheels fame.
Dexter fans will also be happy to hear that Jennifer Carpenter — who is most famous for her role as the serial killer’s sister, Debra Morgan — will appear in the game as Detective Castellanos’ partner, Juli Kidman. She rounds out an impressive cast that will lend an air of credibility to the brand new IP.

From Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to X-Men, Batman to Smallville – comics and graphic novels have infiltrated the television airwaves. Previously dismissed as childish, comic books have evolved into complex plots and unique storytelling. It goes beyond superheroes, shows such as The Walking Dead are breaking the traditional mold we have come to expect from dredge such as CSI, The Mindy Project and Two and a Half Men.
Networks are just scratching the surface on some of the amazing content that would translate well to film and television. In this series we will examine some amazing story driven graphic novels that deserve a live action treatment.

There's something more chilling about movies based on true events. Knowing that at least some version of what you're seeing on the screen actually happened in real life makes the movie more powerful. With the upcoming release of The Quiet Ones, we decided to reminisce about other movies based on horrific real life events.
The Quiet Ones is inspired by a true story of a university experiment done on a young girl that goes horribly, horribly wrong, so we focused on movies based on claims of supernatural true events.
There is a huge list of honorable mentions in this category. We could even break it down into sub-categories, like movies based on the antics of Ed Gein: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Silence of the Lambs, Psycho and Deranged. True crime reenactments: In Cold Blood, Helter Skelter and Zodiac just to name a few of the best. Even real...

With Dexter now behind her, Jennifer Carpenter is a hot commodity for any television pilot. And thank goodness because, while Carpenter was one of the few still really good things about Dexter, I was tired off watching her on a series that was forever in a downward spiral. Let’s just hope that whatever her next project is it doesn’t wind up being as disappointing as Dexter. Unfortunately, the pilot that managed to swipe her up doesn’t have enough information surrounding it to be able to tell if it’s going to be worth it. All I can tell you is that it’s going be vaguely like Twin Peaks, which might mean it could be like The Killing, which is off-putting.
According to TVLine, Carpenter will be starring in ABC’s Sea of Fire. The tragedy of this announcement is that there were no details on what role Carpenter would be playing.

Directed By: Steve Shill
Original Airdate: 22 September 2013

Okay folks, this is it. The last episode. Ready?
Dexter and Harrison are rushing to meet Hannah at the airport - but she is not there. She saw Elway and is hiding out in the bathroom. Dexter reports seeing a suspicious package left by Elway. He is taken into custody and the whole terminal is evacuated. On the way to the car, Batista calls and tells Dexter about Deb being shot, so Dexter sends Hannah to the hotel and asks her to figure out a different way out of Miami.
On the way into the hospital, Quinn was by Deb's side the whole time. She seems dangerously close to trying to confess to Laguerta's murder again, but instead insists simply that she is getting what she deserves. I...

After eight seasons, now we know the fate of Dexter and Debra Morgan. Neither outcome was predictable in Sunday night’s poignant and surprising finale “Remember the Monsters?” Below showrunner Scott Buck and longtime executive producer Sara Colleton take our questions about the final episode, defend the creative choices made during season 8 and answer a couple questions about that rumored spin-off.
Entertainment Weekly: This episode was really unlike any we’ve seen on the show before. How much time and money was put into this hour compared to a typical week?

After what has been a slow, boring final season, Dexter's season finale delivered drama and excitement not found in other episodes this season. Or last season. And maybe even the season before that. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it wasn't a complete disappointment.
There was blood. There was heart. There were F-bombs.
After a rather lackluster final season, "Remember the Monsters" (mostly) delivered.
While there were definitely things about tonight's finale that didn't work, like the flashback to the night Harrison was born (awful, awful wig, costuming department), the Dexter series finale was mostly a win as far as I'm concerned.
We've spent eight seasons wondering how it would end.
Would Dexter get caught? Would he die?
As it turns out, the ending was a little of both.
Was it just me or did Batista and Quinn seem to know Dexter wasn't acting in self-defense? I sort...

Dexter Morgan has been hiding in plain sight for eight seasons on Showtime, and throughout those years, a handful of people have challenged our antihero — but most didn’t live to tell the tale.

Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter may have the foulest mouth on television. The actress, who plays recently reinstated Miami Metro detective Debra Morgan on Showtime's serial-killer drama, is no stranger to f-bombs. By her own accounts, she figures the character -- whose gangly cop has grown over the show's eight seasons to become the (former) head of Miami Metro -- has muttered "thousands and thousands" of expletives. "I have to say, the writers came up with some doozies," Carpenter said Thursday during a Paley Center panel celebrating the show's final season. "There were a handful of times that I would text

Written By: Jace Richdale & Scott Reynolds
Directed By: Steve Shill
Original Airdate: 8 September 2013

Vogel is desperate to make amends with Oliver / Daniel. (I’m going to call him Oliver because that is how he was introduced to us.) She wants to help Oliver, but her help is merely to put him in a really nice institution and to visit every day. Oliver doesn’t appreciate this. He pins Richard’s death on his mother, because she didn’t give Oliver enough attention. And now he is feeling the same way about Dexter. He wants the same kind of life she “gave” to Dexter. Vogel tells Dexter later on that she doesn’t want him to kill her son, and promises that she is going to “save” him. She doesn’t want to be Dexter’s “excuse” for killing him. Poor Zach Hamilton never had a chance, and now that Dr. Vogel’s holding a piece of his brain, does this mean she’s been the Surgeon all along?
Dr. Evelyn Vogel (Charlotte Rampling) holding a chunk of Zach Hamilton’s (Sam Underwood) brain at the end of “Are We There Yet?” seemed to point some fingers at her, but it’s certainly not a confirmation that she’s the Brain Surgeon. After all, this isn’t the first time she’s been in possession of brain fragments, so who’s to say she acquired Zach’s herself? Someone might be sending her (creepy-weird) messages.

Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is going to figure it all out, at least he will once he stops doing it with Hannah (Yvonne Strahovsky). All she is right now is a roadblock; a complication. Debra’s (Jennifer Carpenter) boss...

While Dexter was getting all googly-eyed over his ex-girlfriend, the real monster, his protege, was potentially bludgeoning his next door neighbor to death. Whoops!
Over the course of the series, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) has let a surprising amount of characters see into who he really is. All of them have either kept their mouths shut or been put down. But as Dexter comes to and end, will Zach Hamilton (Sam Underwood), the creepy teen psychopath, become the exception?
Dexter & Hannah: He’s Still Thinking With The Wrong Head
We’ll have to wait before a question like that is answered.
Even though Dexter knows he should’ve been paying more attention to Zach instead of living in lala land with Hannah (Yvonne Strahovsky), he doesn’t learn from his own mistakes. Instead he decides he should probably help Hannah flee the country. Seriously?

The end of Dexter Season 8 - the final season of the series about everyone's favorite serial killer, is nigh. But an episode like tonight's, while a strong one, has me wondering just how it will all end for Dexter and company with so few hours remaining.
Among all of the shows' characters, "Are We There Yet?" ran the gamut of emotions before settling on one for Dexter Morgan: Love.
After tonight, here's how I hope this series ends: With Dexter, Hannah and Harrison on the Slice of Life motoring away into the sunset.
Sure, sure. Dexter and Debra have been the central relationship of the series, always anchoring each other. She's the main reason he hasn't gone completely off the serial killer deep-end. He holds it together for her. She needs her brother in her life. I get it.
But I really want Debra to return to homicide at Miami...

Sure, sure. Dexter and Debra have been the central relationship of the series, always anchoring each other. She's the main reason he hasn't gone completely off the serial killer deep-end. He holds it together for her. She needs her brother in her life. I get it.
But I really want Debra to return to homicide at Miami...

With the prospect of a new protege on the horizon, the Last thing Dexter needs is an ex-girlfriend to poison her way back into his life. Where the hell did Hannah come from!?
Dexter may have done a little shark-jumping last week when the previously incarcerated Hannah (Yvonne Strahovsky) showed up out of the blue, but that’s the story and we’re sticking to it.
Dexter’s Ex: She’s Married?!
Our hero wakes up by the water with his pants down (only figuratively), having been given the worst dose of ex-girlfriend revenge ever. Seeing as Dexter (Michael C. Hall) chose Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) over Hannah, he knows that he needs to find his ex Asap. She’s probably pissed.
Hannah’s actually very easy to find (like too easy), and she looks to be living the dream as the hot trophy girlfriend of a guy who lives on...

Last week everything seemed to resolve itself the way it was supposed to — Dexter and Debra reunited, he found peace, and the Brain Surgeon was caught and killed — all nice and tidy. So obviously everything is going to get totally f***ked up tonight, right?
The Brain Surgeon may be gone, but we’ve already got a new little creep (emphasis on creep) to look out for: Zach Hamilton, the son of Ed Hamilton, who is a suspect in the murder of his father’s mistress. He’s doing totally unsuspicious things like setting up a personal photography class just outside a crime scene. Pretty sure you’re a murderer, kid. And pretty sure Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) gonna find out about it.
Is The Next Dexter In The Making?
Turns out Zack is also a patient of Dr. Evelyn Vogel’s (the chances!). This makes Dexter oddly, and obviously,...

Now that we know that Dexter is willing to stick a needle in his own sister’s throat, what recourse does Debra even have left? Well folks, get ready for a splash!
Let’s fast-forward a little, because Dexter clearly did. We’ve skipped that awkward period between Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) waking up in a murderous haze after Dex (Michael C. Hall) needle-poked her to when she actually accepts Dr. Evelyn Vogel (Charlotte Rampling) as her shrink.
The Great Manipulation Of Dr. Evelyn Vogel
Because we’re back in that shipping container where Debra shot and killed Laguerta — Vogel is making her relive the experience, and working oddly hard to convince her that she did the right thing by shooting Dexter. Is her persistence selfless?

[Warning: This story contains spoilers from the fourth episode, "Scar Tissue," of Dexter's final season.] Debra Morgan has hit her rock bottom. During Sunday's fourth episode of Dexter's eighth and final season, Jennifer Carpenter's beleaguered Deb, struggling with killing Laguerta and El Guapo, attempted to take her own life -- and that of the man behind her problems: her foster brother, Dexter (Michael C. Showtime's "Dexter" panel at San Diego Comic-Con was particularly emotional for fans as the cast and producers took the stage to say goodbye to the show. "Dexter" is currently in its eighth and final season, and cast members old and new discussed what it's like leaving the show behind.
The large panel included Jennifer Carpenter (Debra Morgan), Aimee Garcia (Jamie Batista), Desmond Harrington (Joey Quinn), Yvonne Strahovsky (Hannah McKay), David Zayas (Angel Batista) Lauren Velez (Maria Laguerta), and of course Dexter Morgan himself, Michael C. Hall.
The panel also included some more surprising guests: Julie Benz, who played Rita Bennett during the show's first four seasons, and Erik King, who portrayed James Doakes during the first two.
"Dexter" wrapped up shooting last week, and the cast agrees that it hasn't yet settled in. "I don't think it's a feeling that any of us have really processed yet," says executive producer Sara Colleton.

"Dexter" has been a staple of Comic-Con International in San Diego for the past few years now and with the show's final season currently underway, fans knew it was their last time to interact with the Morgans and the folks of Miami Metro in Hall H.

Jennifer Carpenter gets a lot of attention for cursing like a trucker as Dexter's Debra Morgan. But, really, the tough girl act is just that: an act. Deb, at her core, is a mess, and she has shed the (gallons of) tears to prove it. This season, though, she has been crying at a pace that's impressive even for her (alcohol and a guilty conscience don't mix, people!). In the first three episodes alone, Deb has already demonstrated all of her signature cry moves.

So... has Debra Morgan finally hit rock bottom?
On an episode titled "What's Eating Dexter Morgan?," that's the real question viewers are now asking themselves, as concerns over Deb are at an all-time high for this confused serial killer.
She's drinking, she's driving, she's wanting to confess her role in Laguerta's murder and, as a result, her brother's role in an endless stream of other murders. Where will it end for Deb? How low can she call? And perhaps most pressing of all at the moment:
What are Dr. Vogel's intentions with her and Dexter?
The mysterious Psychopath Whisperer now has Deb's confession. She's also been put in charge of righting this sinking, guilt-ridden ship and she's made it clear that she wants to do it all on her own.
That's a lot of trust for Dexter to put in someone so controlling, someone who is encouraging him to be an unfeeling monster.

Dexter’s sister is sitting on a pretty huge secret, and it is destroying her. Will Debra finally give in and reveal who the real Bay Harbor Butcher is?
One question reverberating throughout this final season of Dexter is whether Dexter (Michael C. Hall) — a psychopath — is actually capable of selflessly caring about Debra (Jennifer Carpenter). He says he loves her, but as Dr. Evelyn Vogel (Charlotte Rampling) points out, all of the reasons he loves her have to do with him. When she murdered Laguerta, she did it completely selflessly — would Dexter ever do the same for her?
Debra Morgan Continues To Fall Apart
We’ll have to wait to find out, right now all we know is that Debra needs help. Like bad. She’s moved on from cocaine and killing dudes to getting slammered in her car and driving into parking meters. Joey Quinn gets her out...

Want to bestow an Emmy on a series regular who had to upend virtually everything she'd known about her character for six years?
Look no further than Jennifer Carpenter, alias Miami police detective (at that point, anyway) Debra Morgan of Showtime's "Dexter."
The actress has fully occupied the role from her first moment, and brutal cases, challenging personal relationships and clashes with superiors have put the frequently but naturally profane Debra through a vast range of tests. And then, there was last year's Season 7, something else for her -- and for Carpenter -- altogether.
It was that way from the very first moment, technically the last moment of Season 6 replayed, as Debra finally caught her serial-killer half-brother Dexter (Michael C. Hall) in the act. The struggles of wrong vs. right and justice vs. enabling kicked in immediately for her, and they would remain powerful battles for the entire season as...

When we last left Dexter (Michael C. Hall), Dr. Evelyn Vogel (Charlotte Rampling) had dropped that bomb — she knew about Harry’s (James Remar) code. How?
Dr. Vogel: The Creator Of Harry’s Code
Well it turns out she not only knows about it, she invented it. Back when Dexter was a child, Harry sought the psychopath expert out to help him deal with Dexter’s dark urges. And so the serial killer who only kills bad guys was born. Gotta say — I love this development.

Debra Morgan knows that her brother is a deranged serial killer. Heck, she even killed Lieutenant Laguerta to keep the secret in the family. Now as the final season of ‘Dexter’ begins, that murderous decision seems to loom large.
We pick up not where we left off. Dexter’s son is flying a kite, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is smashing fake heads in with a baseball bat. And all of Dexter’s problems have been solved. Oh wait, no they haven’t.
Dexter & Debra On The Rocks
A helpful voiceover from Dexter himself lets us know it’s been six months since Laguerta was killed.
“I’m a serial killer” is written all over Dexter’s face around the rest of the police department. And it’s clear that Dexter and Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) are not on speaking terms. He pretty much ruined her life and she hates him, or so she says.

“I hate this!” howls Jennifer Carpenter as she gets hosed down. “It’s so cold!”
The actress is standing beside a Southern California lake as Dexter assistants gently soak her. She’s preparing for a scene where she has to drag a body out of a water. Though it’s nearly 70 degrees and sunny, you get the impression she’s being stung by every drop.
Several watery minutes later, Carpenter exits the water. “I need a belt!” she says as her pants slip down her narrow hips. Then she touches her forehead, where the makeup team applied red goop to simulate a head wound.

Jennifer Carpenter went into filming the last season of "Dexter" unable to shake how she ended the past one.
And no wonder: Her character, Debra Morgan, had protected her half-brother Dexter's (Michael C. Hall) serial-killer secret by fatally shooting their Miami police boss Laguerta (Lauren Velez). That action still weighs mightily and quite visibly on the reasonably undone Debra as "Dexter" begins its eighth and final Showtime season Sunday, June 30.
"I wish they'd had cameras on what was happening between takes," Carpenter tells Zap2it after being nominated for a Critics' Choice Television Award for her work on "Dexter" last year. "Lauren and I have a really special relationship, so on a personal level, it was complicated to be sending a friend off.

Jennifer Carpenter has a simple wish for the end of "Dexter": She wants Debra Morgan, her "Dexter" character, to die.

When Scott Buck is ready to talk, you better be prepared. The Dexter showrunner’s answers tend to be rapid-fire direct, the interview equivalent of speed dating. When we met in his Hollywood office two months ago, the writer-producer was perhaps even more urgent than usual. Dexter’s final season is debuting in the summer for the first time (June 30), which has the creative team meeting earlier deadlines than usual (don’t worry, they assure the show is on track — this final storyline has been in the works for years). Below Buck talks about the Miami Metro gang’s last days in the sun.

With a show such as Dexter - which has enjoyed a long life due to its ability to shock its loyal and faithful audience - part of the fun of conducting interviews with the cast is that actors usually can’t say too much about what’s to come... but that doesn’t mean I don’t try!

The pilot episode of a show that you love represents a vacation in time, a chance to go back down memory lane and smile, grin or laugh at the way things once were. The awkwardness of first meetings, how different they were as people, the sense of blind wonder at what may come; it’s an oddly personal experience, rather like remembering your first day of college. Like watching old home movies, the nostalgia is mixed with embarrassment, amusement and, perhaps in small doses, regret. Even the best shows can have strange pilot episodes, full of quirks that were quickly dropped without explanation, elements that were mostly best left out, some which sadly didn’t make the transition from trial run to the full program.

Hot on the heels of last week’s post teasing “The Beginning of the End” for our dearly departed Dexter comes some far more spoilerific episodic shots that raise some very interesting questions. Will Dr. Evelyn Vogel (Charlotte Rampling) spell Dexter’s doom? Did Batista put his retirement on hold in the wake of Laguerta’s untimely demise? Why is Deb shacking up with actor Sean Patrick Flanery?! And while we don’t quite have any answers for these burning questions, we can in fact officially confirm that some very interesting photos await you on the other side of this jump.
