Based on the horror comic book series from Zenescope Entertainment, Sony’s Screen Gems is turning Paradise Court into a feature horror movie, Deadline has reported this week.
Assemble Media (Brawl in Cell Block 99) will be producing the feature film adaptation.
Deadline details the project and its comic book origins, “Created by Zenescope’s CEO Joe Brusha, Paradise Court takes its name from a luxurious and exclusive gated community where beneath an idyllic façade lies a deadly secret — all the residents are serial killers with unique proclivities and manicured lawns cut as sharp as the knives in their kitchens.”
Jack Heller will produce alongside Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen, Joe Brusha and Ralph Tedesco.
Stay tuned for more on Paradise Court as we learn it.

Dark and gritty have become the keywords for comic-based movies, but it's not a trend that's confined to the big screen. A lot of comics are saving studios the trouble, and spinning their own gloomy version of a popular tale, and Hollywood is responding by optioning them all up. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest to sign on the dotted line is Zenescope, who will be helping to bring The Piper to the big screen.
The Piper is a four-issue series by Joe Brusha and Ralph Tedesco, and is part of Zenescope's Grimm Fairy Tales line that puts a lot of emphasis on the grim. (That's not hard given most original fairy tales.) Piper takes the story of the Pied Piper of Hamlin, and turns him into a bogeyman that is revived by high school student Sean. Tormented by bullies, Sean seeks someone to help him exact revenge. But...

I don’t know all that much about the Pied Piper, except there was a character called the Piper that showed up regularly on “The Flash” comic book playing a flute and usually dressed in some dorky costume. But then again, if you didn’t dress up in a dorky costume or have gorilla fur, you probably didn’t show up in “The Flash” comic books. Anyways, Persistent Entertainment and Pantry Films are teaming up to bring the Zenescope comic book “The Piper” to the big screen, and from the sounds of it, it looks like some teens are about to pay the pied piper. In blood! Muhahahahaha. Ahem. Comic book “The Piper”, from writer Mike Kalvoda and artist Axel Medellin, with story credits by Ralph Tedesco and Joe Brusha, will be a modern take on the Hamelin fable, and will follow a bullied high school band student who unintentionally...

A team of producers - Persistent Entertainment, Pantry Films and Zenescope Entertainment - have come together to adapt Zenescope's comic book, The Piper.

Remember back in high school when you had to run the eight laps around the track, and though you tried to do it to impress the cheerleaders in your class, you end up saying “screw this, I’ll take the F” around the fourth lap? Or that paper you had to write in college, maybe it was on insomnia, and no matter how hard you tried to write that sucker, you always ended up falling asleep? Fatalism and irony are two forces many succumb to when the going gets tough, and for Dr. Herbert West... add misfortune, misdirection, and insanity to the list.
