Deadline has reported that Paramount Pictures is developing a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo. The psychological thriller is considered by many to be not only one of Hitchcock’s finest movies, but one of the best of all time. The project does have some star power behind it, as Robert Downey Jr. is eyeing the leading role of the former police detective forced to retire after an incident in the line of duty causes him to develop acrophobia and vertigo.
The Vertigo remake is set to be scripted by Steven Knight, the Peaky Blinders creator who recently signed on to write the new Star Wars movie. Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey will produce the remake through their Team Downey banner, alongside John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment. The original 1958 film starred Jimmy Stewart as John ‘Scottie’ Ferguson, a former detective obsessed with the hauntingly beautiful woman he was hired to investigate.

Universal’s top-of-the-line Alfred Hitchcock classics make the jump to Ultra HD in a worthy update. We’ve seen these before but they’re always different in a theatrical setting… and the quality is so amazing here, a big home theater setup can duplicate a theatrical experience. It might as well be a Robert Burks / John L. Russell cinematographer’s film festival too, or an ‘Editor George Tomasini Festival’ — that unheralded ace cut all four of these masterpieces. And fans of Psycho have an extra treat: a slightly longer original cut.

March 12 is National Hitchcock Day, celebrating the Master of Suspense and his oeuvre of films. The Hitch has been enjoying a renaissance of late. 2012 saw two films about him (albeit not entirely flattering portraits of the director): "Hitchcock," starring Anthony Hopkins in the title role and Helen Mirren as wife Alma Reville, and "The Girl," starring Toby Jones and Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren. (Our Toh! comparison between "Hitchcock" and the making of "Psycho" as described in the Stephen Rebello book upon which the film is based, is here; our coverage of Hedren talking about her experience working on "The Birds" is here.) Last year also marked a historical turning point in Sight & Sound's Top 100 Films of All Time, as Hithcock's brilliant psychological romance and portrait of deleterious obsession "Vertigo" took the No. 1 spot, dethroning "Citizen Kane." That film, starring James Stewart and Kim Novack, was part of a Universal Blu-ray box set released,...

If you’ve hunted around for movie bargains, you’ve probably seen some of Mill Creek Entertainment’s 50-Movie Packs on DVD. Apart from other great releases by Mill Creek, these packs are phenomenal boons to cinephiles looking to collect older titles.
There are three new packs available, and I want to not only let you in on a discount code, but I have one of the packs available for you to win.
I know a lot of people may be quick to overlook these packs, and not every movie included stands out as a major value, but there are some great titles in each of them, and fans of the genres will be pleasantly surprised by what they get out of the deal. I have to admit that there is something about seeing a 50-movie pack, especially when it doesn’t cost a couple of hundred dollars, or more,...

Emma Stone didn't go home from Sunday (Jan 16) night's Golden Globes, but she did get another opportunity to show off her blonde Gwen Stacey hair.
Stone, who became famous as a redhead, went back to her natural blonde for the upcoming "Spider-Man" movie. But with her updo and simple peach Calvin Klein dress she could easily be up for consideration in a Kim Novack or Tippi Hedren biopic.
Even looking every inch the lady, she still managed to keep her wits about her during a red carpet interview with Ryan Seacrest where she witheringly told him that comparing "Superbad" and "Spider-Man" was "like apples to oranges, man."...

"Ripped from the headlines" is the Law & Order franchise's catch phrase, but often times just one nugget of a real-life story is enough to inspire an episode.
This season's premiere slightly borrowed from the story of Jaycee Dugard (who was kidnapped and found to be living with her captor years later), added an element of the Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novack film Vertigo about remaking someone you love, and combined it with the idea of installing Rfid chips in your kids to trace their every move.
