Idol’s Eye back in production with Sylvester Stallone stepping in for Robert De Niro.
Sylvester Stallone will step in as Chicago mob Tony Accardo in the upcoming heist movie Idol's Eye, from French director Olivier Assayas (Personal Shopper). The part was originally supposed to be played by Robert De Niro, but, clearly, that's no longer the case. His Cop Land co-star has snagged it instead.
Idol’s Eye, which also stars Robert Pattinson and Rachel Weisz, had its production closed by Benaroya Pictures in 2014 due to financing problems just as filming was set to start. While there is no official reason for the switch, it might be because De Niro is set to star in Martin Scorsese‘s upcoming true-life gangster movie The Irishman, and thus has a schedule clash.
The film is based on real events about a thief who steals a blue diamond that belongs to Accardo by mistake.

Creed and soon-to-be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Sylvester Stallone has agreed terms to join Idol’s Eye, Olivier Assayas’ long-anticipated crime drama that will see the industry veteran assume the role of Chicago mob boss Tony Accardo.
Screen Daily has the scoop, confirming that Stallone has been drafted in to replace Robert De Niro, who had been attached to play Accardo early on in development. Both Robert Pattinson and Rachel Weisz remain on board, and though Assayas’ feature has been hit with setbacks before – financing essentially fell through two years ago – Idol’s Eye is being prepped to enter production in February.
With a $25 million production budget in tow, the crime caper orbits around Robert Pattinson’s character, a “petty thief who unknowingly steals a blue diamond from Accardo and sparks a war between the two men as they strive to stay ahead of the FBI.” Little...

As Tiff 2016 gets underway, two titles are prompting industry buzz.
As the industry descended on Toronto International Film Festival (Sept 8-18), buyer interest heated up around Venice hit Jackie ahead of Sunday’s North American premiere and Netflix reportedly circled a global streaming deal on The Bad Batch [pictured].
Completed films in the festival, such as Pablo Larrain’s English-language debut and Lily Ana Lily Amirpour’s second feature, represent one kind of opportunity for buyers, albeit one that has prompted familiar gripes about a lack of broadly commercial must-haves.
However the late arrival of a handful of enticing packages on the eve of Toronto has quickened pulses for savvy buyers willing to risk early investment on select prospects.
This time last year Paramount pounced on a promo reel for Florence Foster Jenkins and the film has amassed $24m and counting in North America.
So all eyes will be on thriller Labyrinth, a Good Universe...

One week into shooting in Cleveland, finance issues have forced Benaroya Films to temporarily halt production on the action thriller starring Bruce Willis.
Sources said the hiatus comes as producer-financier Michael Benaroya and his associates scramble to reconfigure the budget.
International Film Trust was at the Efm earlier this month shopping rights to the story of a sociopath who must defend his clan after he returns home for a family funeral on a remote island. John Pogue is the director.
Benaroya produces with Tobin Armbrust, David Alpert and Chris Cowles. CAA represents Us rights the film.
“Benaroya Pictures is working quickly to remedy the delay in production on the feature film Wake, and we are optimistic we will resume principal photography in approximately 2-3 weeks,” a spokesperson said.
