Top CAA agent Nick Khan, who was Co-Head of Television, is departing the agency to join client WWE as President & Chief Revenue Officer, reporting directly to WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon.
Khan fills the void left by the January exit of Co-Presidents George Barrios and Michelle Wilson who were ousted in January amid a rocky last year for the company. Unlike other sports franchises, which were shut down by the coronavirus pandemic in March, WWE continued to produce its flagship weekly TV series, Raw and SmackDown. Still, it too has been grappling with the effects from the pandemic, along with declining TV ratings.
“Nick is a seasoned media executive with a deep understanding of our business and a proven track record of generating significant value for sports and entertainment properties,” said McMahon. “While representing WWE at CAA, he was instrumental in transforming our business model by securing domestic media rights...

Exclusive: Mark Wahlberg’s Unrealistic Ideas and Peter Berg’s Film 45 have set a multi-series partnership with rising sports streaming outlet Dazn.
The pair, both avid boxing fans, are beginning the venture by teaming for an edition of Dazn’s 40 Days that is pegged to Gennadiy “Ggg” Golovkin’s fight with Steve Rolls at Madison Square Garden on June 8. The show, which launched earlier this year as a core franchise offering behind-the-scenes looks, this time will zero in on the lead-up to the bout, which is Golovkin’s debut on Dazn.
The actor and director are frequent collaborators, occasionally focusing on boxing in their work. In 2010, Wahlberg starred in and produced multiple Oscar nominee The Fighter. In 2012, Berg’s Film 45 directed and produced the On Freddie Roach boxing docu-series on HBO.
Follow docs are sports media mainstays, especially with the rise of digital video — think 24/7 or Hard Knocks or Tom Vs.

Season 5 of Mark Burnett’s boxing competition show “The Contender” is hoping to deliver a knockout punch when it premieres on Epix Friday night.
While much has changed in both the worlds of reality TV and professional boxing in the nine-plus years since the fourth season finale aired, the essence of the series has stayed the same, host Andre Ward told TheWrap.
“I think that it would be blasphemous for me to say that it [Season 5] is better” than the first four seasons, Ward said. “I just want people to view it, make their assessments and have their own judgment.”

Former champion Andre “Son of God” Ward — who retired last year with an undefeated record — is set to host The Contender, Mark Burnett’s revived reality series that will bow on Epix later this year. Legendary trainers Freddie Roach and Naazim Richardson will serve as trainers on the series, which launched multiple boxers into contention for world titles during its original 2005-09 run.
Burnett is producing the 12-episode series along with his longtime executive producer Eric Van Wagenen. MGM Television and Paramount Television are producing, with filming set to begin this spring in Los Angeles.
Roach and Richardson each will oversee a team of eight fighters, pushing their fighting skills, strength and endurance to the limit in preparation for elimination competitions. They also will act as the fighters’ mentor, helping them to navigate their everyday life as the competitors live and train together and fight each other in the ring.

One fight is for publicity, the other is for multiple World Championships. One is being fought by Klitschko losers, the other by the 140lb division’s best fighters. So why do I, and many others, want to see Haye vs Chisora more than Khan vs Garcia?
The answer is actually fairly simple. People hate David Haye and/or Dereck Chisora; they want to see what will happen this time around in the circus show, and in the ring, a knockout.
Haye Vs Chisora
Before the embarrassing brawl after Chisora’s quite impressive performance (not manner) against the ageing Vitali Klitschko, this fight was a laughable option for David Haye. Haye is a two weight world champion fighter, Chisora is a nobody. This is a fight for money, public demand and personal hatred. I cannot wait!
Many were criticising this fight for taking place, especially in England having been sanctioned from Luxembourg.

You’ll like this news if you enjoy seeing men try to give each other brain trauma. NBC’s cable sports channel says this morning that it has renewed its Fight Night series of Saturday matches for a second season, and plans to up the number of bouts to 16 from six — with at least six matches a year. NBC Sports President Jon Miller adds that NBC Sports Group will try to book as many as two Fight Night broadcasts on NBC. The company says that its deal with Main Events and matchmaker J Russell Peltz will give any promoter “the opportunity to get their boxers involved in these programs and allows viewers the ability to see world class match-ups that would not otherwise take place.” Peltz adds that the fights “have been promoted the old-fashioned way, in sold-out noisy venues in Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Bethlehem and Newark. This is the way boxing was meant to be.

"On Freddie Roach" is a six-part HBO cinéma-vérité documentary series focusing on world-famous boxing trainer Freddie Roach, who owns and operates the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, stomping ground for countless Roach protégés and world champions such as Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan, Oscar de la Hoya and Mike Tyson. It is a powerful and personal insight into Roach's life and career, providing an in-depth look into Roach's battle with Parkinson's disease. For Roach, allowing cameras to capture his life in such detail was never a problem. He found that, over time, the camera crew became like a family. Most important for him was giving the audience a clear understanding of what it means to triumph over adversity. "If you work hard, and don't give up, you can achieve anything," says Roach, echoing the show's underlying message. Multi-hyphenate Peter Berg, a two-time Emmy Award nominee...

Joe Henderson always had the respect of fellow musicians and hardcore jazz fanatics, but for a long time it seemed the closest he'd get to fame was his brief stint in Blood, Sweat & Tears (years later he reminisced, in one of my favorite interviews, about how that short period was when sax companies wanted his endorsement and gave him free horns). Hardly fair considering that he spent a quarter century ranked among the top three tenor saxophonists alive, along with Rollins and Shorter. Then, almost miraculously, Verve put together a masterful production/promotion campaign that made him more famous in his last decade than he'd ever been before. Alas, emphysema took him at age 64, but he'd managed to leave an impressive legacy with nary a misstep -- he never made a bad album, and his appearance on anyone else's album was always a mark of quality. (Why is Ptah, the...

It's a slow week in television, relatively-speaking (no major premieres, at least), which makes for an eclectic Firewall & Iceberg Podcast, where talk of the Dowager Countess of "Downton Abbey" rubs up against discussion of boxing trainer Freddie Roach, Ann Perkins' love life, pilot season, and, of course, new podcast mainstay Jeremy Lin (but only kinda-sorta). The line-up: "Downton Abbey" (00:01:30 - 00:21:00) "On Freddie Roach" (00:21:00 - 00:29:30) Dan's Reality Roundup (00:29:30 - 00:44:10) Listener Mail - Pilots (00:45:55 - 00:59:10) Listen Mail - Linsanity and Asian Representations (00:59:10 - 01:07:00) Listener Mail - Critically acclaimed shows we don't acclaim (01:07:00 -...

You can hear the Wild Card Boxing Club before you see it -- the thwap-thwap of gloves hitting heavy bags, the guttural grunts and the rhythmic whoosh of jump-ropes behind a row of second-floor windows. The cramped, stuffy gym is tucked above a Laundromat on Vine Street, as anonymous as the rest of the businesses in this dingy Hollywood strip mall -- the Thai restaurant, the massage parlor whose venetian blinds are always closed, the Alcoholics Anonymous outpost. This is just how Wild Card owner Freddie Roach, 51, likes it. On a Wednesday morning in early November, the diminutive

After winning an Emmy of her own in 2010, Jane Lynch is poised to take the next logical step: serving as host(ess) of the entire awards show! The Glee baddie, who was named Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy at last year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, is reportedly thisclose to signing on as emcee of the 2011 festivities, says Deadline. Given that the Emmys are set to air this September on Fox — aka the home of Lynch’s hit musical dramedy — the choice of host seems to be the perfect fit.
