It's been five years since six unknown child actors from India stole the spotlight in the Oscar-winning film "Slumdog Millionaire."The child actors reunited for an awesome new interview with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about being thrust into the limelight."More than a dream, it was fantasy come true," Tanay Chheda, now 17, says of the film's eight statuettes won at the 2009 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for Danny Boyle. When the young actors were told that the shoot was for the magazine's Oscars Issue, the memories came flooding back to their trip to Hollywood."You know, when we went to the Oscars, that was also around this time -- in fact this very week -- in February," explained Tanvi Lonkar's father Ganesh Lonkar, who joined his daughter at the Oscars. A version of this story first appeared in the March 7 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Mumbai, India -- "More than a dream, it was fantasy come true," recalls Tanay Chheda, 17 -- a child star of Slumdog Millionaire and now a student at Connecticut's Choate prep school -- of the film's eight statuettes won at the 2009 Oscars, including best picture and best director for Danny Boyle. Many of our writers along with their Bollywood love, also proudly proclaim their love for the Harry Potter series. Most of us have read all of the books several times over and have seen all the films. We wish that we lived in the magical world of Harry Potter and in fact, most of us have said one time or a thousand, ‘I would love to go to Hogwarts’! The last film has made its way into the theaters and though the books are still there so we can visit, we will never again wait impatiently for the release of the next book or film. Since we are geeks in both Bollywood and Harry Potter we thought it might be fun and yes, as a way to distract ourselves from the sadness, if we thought of the perfect cast of Bollywood actors to take over the roles of the films.

'Don: The Chase Begins Again' (2006)
Starring Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Boman Irani, Arjun Rampal, Isha Koppikar
Shahrukh Khan once said he wanted to be the first Indian James Bond. But what need now—Don is way cooler. The film has all the fun hallmarks of a Bond flick—exotic locations (Paris and Kuala Lumpur), beautiful women, criminal masterminds, high-tech gadgets, fantastic fight scenes, and glamorous parties—but it is not a take-off of the 007 franchise. Rather, it's a remake of the 1978 Bollywood cult classic 'Don,' which starred Amitabh Bachchan in the title role. The character is not ambiguous like Bond, but a bad, bad man—and Khan makes him his own.
Don is in charge of the Malaysian operations of a global crime syndicate run by Singhania (Rajesh Khattar), and Don has designs on ousting his boss and taking over the whole organization. Police inspector D'Silva (Boman Irani...

Remember those late '80s commercials where a victorious athlete would exclaim "I'm going to Disneyland"? Well, that ad campaign could be recast with the young stars of Slumdog Millionaire.
Following the movie's Oscar sweep, Tanvi Ganesh Lonkar (who plays middle Latika), Madhur Mittal (older Salim), Azhar Mohammed Ismail (young Salim), Ayush Mahesh Khedekar (young Jamal), Rubina Ali (young Latika), Tanay Hemant Chheda (middle Jamal) and Ashutosh Lobo Gajiwala (middle Salim) visited Disneyland on Monday. Making the moment even more adorable/press-op-y, the kids took a ride on It's A Small World. Ahh...now if only Ryan Seacrest would have tried to pronounce their names on the red carpet.

It was undoubtedly a night of triumph for Slumdog Millionaire at the Oscars. And it was a particularly exciting night for the kids in the movie who literally stole the show but have so far come away with surprisingly little monetary reward for their work. They held up pretty well in their little tuxedos and evening gowns for a very awkward red carpet interview with E!'s Ryan Seacrest, who evaded the issue of actually pronouncing their names by flashing a cast list in front of the camera and urging them to shout their names all at once, not realizing that some of them didn't understand him because they didn't speak English. Yikes.

There was absolute chaos (but a very 'cultured' one this) at the Mumbai International Airport yesterday as it saw the the supercool child actors of Slumdog Millionaire boarding their flight to attend the Academy Awards to be held in Los Angeles on Sunday. These young brats included the likes of Ayush Khedekar, Tanay Chheda, Madhur Mittal, Tanvi Lonkar and gang. This was one trip which was just heaven-sent to these kids, which was echoed in the feelings of their proud parents. Amidst all this excitement was a super-proud -but-slightly- tensed mother of one of the kids. And she had every reason to be so, for her son, after attending the prestigious Oscar ceremony that takes place on Sunday, has to rush back to Mumbai, to appear for his S.S.C. board examinations. Way to go, kids. We sincerely pray that the film wins the Oscar trophy.

Josh Brolin Milk -- Josh Brolin is in his prime as an actor. Besides playing President George W. Bush in Oliver Stone's W. this year, he took on a challenging supporting role in another political film: Gus Van Sant's remarkable Milk, a meticulously re-created slice of American political history charting the heroic life and tragic demise of openly gay San Francisco supervisor Harvey Milk. Brolin plays fellow supervisor Dan White, an ostensibly sharp, all-American family man who at first seemed to blend into the political arena of 1970s San Francisco. But White struggled with inner demons that led him to commit two murders, of Milk and Mayor George Moscone, and later take his own life. How does one play a mentally tormented real-life assassin whose motives can be speculated on yet never truly known? Brolin wisely allows the ambiguities surrounding White's meltdown to remain, while illuminating certain factors that...

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button -- Obviously, the stars of David Fincher's cinematic telling of the F. Scott Fitzgerald short story "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" are Brad Pitt as the title character and Cate Blanchett as his soul mate, Daisy. But this spellbinding fairy tale -- beautifully adapted by Oscar winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) -- requires much more than just A-list power to paint its haunting picture. In a New Orleans hospital, a dying woman asks her grown daughter, Caroline (Julia Ormond), to read from a journal. The woman is Daisy, and the diary is the extraordinary story of a man she knew named Benjamin Button, who was born old and grew younger. They shared a lifetime bond, though they only truly connected in the middle for a while. Caroline and Daisy (an astonishing deathbed performance by Blanchett) lead us into Ben's narrative of a life lived backward,...

Guess the Indian connection in Slumdog Millionaire is not just restricted to Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Saurabh Shukla. Another strong Indian connection in this Danny Boyle film is a child actor who made a great impression in Taare Zameen Par. No, we are not talking about Darsheel Safary here but the boy who played his close confidante Rajan Damodaran. Tanay Chheda is the boy in question who was shown as Darsheel's friend in the boarding school. Though he was nowhere to be seen in the first half of the film,...
