The "Trick 'r Treat" director's "Krampus" - based on the German legend of a pagan demon who punishes misbehaving children at Christmastime - has been slated for release on November 25, 2015 by Universal and Legendary Pictures. The film is Dougherty's first directorial effort since the 2007 Halloween-themed horror anthology, which was delayed for two years before finally being released straight to DVD and Blu-ray in 2009 by Warner Bros./Legendary. Best known as the screenwriter behind Bryan Singer's "X2" and "Superman Returns," Dougherty announced development on a "Trick 'r Treat" sequel last October. The studios today also announced the release date for "Spectral," a 3D action-thriller about "an elite Spec Ops team on a mission to take down an aggressive phantom threat that cannot be explained." We’ve seen some heavy-duty modern warfare films over the past decade, but none of them featured ghosts as the enemy. That’s the twist in Legendary Pictures’ upcoming supernatural thriller Spectral, which is beginning to take shape now that another actor has joined the cast.

Way back in 2011, we heard about a new project from Legendary Pictures called Spectral, which sounded like a gritty version of Ghostbusters. The story follows a special ops group whose sole purpose is to take down evil ghosts who have taken over Manhattan. At the time, there were rumblings the project might move away from New York City to avoid the eventual comparison (both legally and creatively) with Ghostbusters, but it sounds like it's different enough that Legendary is moving forward without any changes, and THR has word that they've hired World War Z and Iron Man 3 star James Badge Dale to star in the film. Read on! The original idea, which has also been called a supernatural Black Hawk Down, came from up and coming writer Ian Fried, whose The Ever After Murders ended up on the 2010 Black List. Today's a big day for Norwegian helmers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, whose Kon-Tiki was just nominated for a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. They are also near a deal to make their Hollywood debut.
Per Deadline, they are signing a seven-figure pact to direct Spectral for Legendary Pictures. The script, based on a treatment by Ian Fried and with a most recent script draft by Jayson Rothwell, is being viewed as a potential franchise.
When we heard of Spectral previously, the description was as follows: Centered on a modern-day, militaristic, and gritty approach to fighting the supernatural, it is a darker and more serious take on a Ghostbusters-like story, with a plot that revolves around a special ops group formed to bring down evil ghosts that have taken over Manhattan.
Now that the directors have been found, look for more soon!

Exclusive: Norwegian helmers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, whose film Kon-Tiki was Oscar nominated today for Best Foreign Language Film, are near a deal to make their first big splashy Hollywood helming deal. They are signing a 7-figure pact to direct Spectral for Legendary Pictures. The script, based on a treatment by Ian Fried and with a most recent script draft by Jayson Rothwell, is described as a supernatural Black Hawk Down and it is viewed as a potential franchise. Roenning and Sandberg have been meeting with and being offered projects by studios since Kon-Tiki began playing in Norway and then made its festival debut at Toronto in September. The film tells the harrowing tale of Thor Heyerdahl’s 1947 journey, drifting 4,300 miles across the Pacific Ocean on a balsa raft with a small crew to Polynesia to prove South Americans were its original settlers. Exclusive Media have unveiled the first image from Hammer's newest horror entry 'The Quiet Ones'. It popped up at this week's Afm and although its taken for the new supernatural thriller the image is anything but thrilling. Still hopefully it's a sign of things to come. Jared Harris ('The Ward', 'Mad Men'), Sam Claflin, Erin Richards, Olivia Cooke and Rory Fleck-Byrne all star in the project helmed and written by John Pogue ('Quarantine 2: Terminal'). Hammer are also prepping two new projects which should see releases both in 2014 that include the Ian Fried penned 'Gaslight' plus a sequel to last years hugely successful adaptation of 'The Woman in Black' entitled 'The Woman in Black: Angels of Death'. Head below for the new image....

It was last November when we first heard about Legendary Pictures' supernatural action project Spectral from writer Ian Fried, and all has been quiet ever since. However, now some movement is under way as Jayson Rothwell has been brought in to rework the script.
Although the project doesn't have any producers lined up yet, sources told Variety that Thomas Tull, Legendary's founder and CEO, loves the concept and is very much behind getting the film up and running.
The premise of Spectral is centered on a modern-day, militaristic, and gritty approach to fighting the supernatural. It has been described as a darker and more serious take on a Ghostbusters-like story, with a plot that revolves around a special ops group formed to bring down evil ghosts that have taken over Manhattan.
With a new scribe on board, however, things are of course subject to change so look for more soon!

We're finally going to get a movie based on the legendary Winchester Mystery House! I've been wondering when we would get to see an awesome movie based on this creepy old mansion. Hammer has announced that they've optioned the rights to develop a feature length horror film based on what's considered to be the “world’s most haunted house.”
It's fun to explore the realm of the supernatural world, and I took a trip up to the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, CA a few years back to check it out for myself, and I really had a great time. It's such an incredibly creepy house with an intensely awesome and interesting history. I had an absolute blast taking the tour.

Having toured the Winchester Mystery House personally, I can attest to the fact that the place is as odd as they come. Seriously weird. Windows in the floor. Doors that go nowhere. It's truly a sight and the perfect place for a ghost story based upon, well, the real life ghost stories!

Ian Fried's Gaslight spec script landed at a healthy position on the recent 2011 Black List of unproduced screenplays. Now the writer has reason to celebrate some more as Hammer Films has purchased Gaslight and put it into development.
A Victorian take on The Silence of the Lambs, Gaslight takes place in late 19th century London. Unbeknownst to its citizens, Jack the Ripper was caught and secretly locked away in an insane asylum. But then a new series of grisly killings starts up, and all the victims share one identifying mark in common: two twin puncture marks on their neck. Scotland Yard decides that it will take a killer to catch a killer so it turns to the Ripper and his diabolical thinking process to help them solve the identity of the killer and bring an end to their murder spree.

With solid reviews and opening weekend box-office for its just opened film adaptation of Susan Hill's "The Woman in Black", the newly reinvigorated Hammer Films have announced two more projects it has in the works.
First up the company has acquired the rights to newcomer Ian Fried's Black List-making atmospheric thriller script "Gaslight".
The film posits the idea that Jack the Ripper was secretly apprehended by the authorities and imprisoned in a London insane asylum. It's there where he's called upon to help Scotland Yard solve a series of grisly murders where all the victims died from dual puncture wounds to the neck.
Hammer is also moving into production on the 'inspired by true events' story "The Quiet Ones" which John Pogue ("Quarantine 2") is directing.

More and more Black List scripts are being called from the ranks of the screenplay development realm by production companies and studios looking for fodder they can shovel into the hungry maw of the movie machine. The latest to hit the news radar? Ian Fried’s Gaslight, which Hammer is now working on.Gaslight, not to be confused with the Joe Wright project of a little while back, posits that Jack the Ripper was actually caught and secreted away in a London insane asylum.
