Rip Lady Eve, Tori, and David Poe!
On Black Lightning Season 1 Episode 7, the power struggle in Freeland became too much to handle for some of the characters, and it resulted in Lady Eve having her face melted off.
It was shocking that this villainous character was wiped out in such a random fight scene. Sure, it made sense that Tobias would not want to roll over and accept defeat, but I found myself rolling my eyes for much of the big fight scene involving guns that seemed ripped from DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
There was a lack of build-up to the death, and it felt hastily thrown together. The only part of the fight I liked was getting to see Lady Eve in action because, well, she's freaking awesome.
If her death sticks, it will go down as one of the most anti-climactic deaths in the history of TV.

Singer-songwriter David Poe's poignant acoustic guitar and vocal cover of "September" by Earth, Wind & Fire, with all the proceeds to benefit the 9/11 group Tuesday's Children, is profoundly disturbing and powerful at the same time. For those of us New Yorkers who lived through this heinous moment in world history, it is a tragic event that we will carry to our graves. But the event also sparked a level of human compassion and cooperation that shone a beacon of light and hope that the entire world could see. I've often contemplated how we can continue to keep that flame of optimism burning in a world that seems teetering on the brink of madness. Perhaps Max Pickwoad's video is the perfect reminder to bring us back to that moment of clarity when everything around us was literally collapsing but somehow hope still sprang eternal.

It was a brutal Winter (of our discontent), but it's finally Spring and there's plenty of new music to thaw even the most solid block of plowed snow. Here are ten of my favorite new rock/pop/dance/funk/folk tunes. Let us begin with this tremendous track (and album) from one of my favorite folk-rock singer/songwriters, the former New Yorker and now L.A.-based David Poe. Here he shares his muse on his debut single "When I Fly" from his soon-to-be-released long player When I Fly. Check him out on tour, too.
Nsfw aside, the "Leeches" video -- directed by Jessica Lauretti of the band This Frontier Needs Heroes -- is just one of the infectious tracks from the Shoulders album released by the terrifically talented singer/songwriter/composer Pt Walkley, who just happens to hail from NYC. So there.

Although mainstream horror cinema has been slow to churn out titles, and as of late seems to have opted to focus primarily on remaking the classics of yesteryear, there is a vast quantity of low budget and independent titles coming out every week. Due to limited means and the microscopic marketing budgets associated with independent filmmaking, it’s easy for quality films to slip through the cracks. In response to that, we created this recurring segment to explore titles that might have flown under your radar. [If you missed out on our previous lists of forgotten gems, follow the links to Part One and Part Two of our series.] As we’ve mentioned before, we think it a travesty that well-made titles are going largely unnoticed by the genre film community and being placed on the back burner in favor of sometimes tepid theatrical releases. In an effort to remedy that, we're offering up five titles from the past five years that you may have missed... but should definitely see. Hopefully, even those...

In honour of Joss Whedon’s birthday (well, okay, it was two days ago, but “‘Day’” is a vestigial mode of time measurement based on solar cycles. It’s not applicable…”), here’s a shiny fanvid celebrating the Whedonverse, with clips from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse, and Doctor Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog, set to David Poe’s song Joy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Slu2xramq6E
It’s a happy, silly, upbeat, and fun vid made of squee, much like the Buffy and Angel cast fanvids to the songs Smile and Dance Like an Idiot.
The next paragraph contains spoilers for Faith’s character arc in Buffy and Angel, so skip it if you don’t want to know what happens.
Faith’s arc in this video is quite interesting. It’s very subtle, and may not even have been intentional on the vidder’s part.

There were rumors that Booth's grandfather was going to make an appearance on the show and that will finally happen on November 19. Hopefully we'll learn more about Booth's family history. Will Booth and Jared's father ever make an appearance? We'll have to wait and see.

It has only taken a decade or so, but the children of The Blair Witch Project have come of age in the last couple of years, and found-footage horror is flourishing on big and small screens. A handful of direct Blair Witch knockoffs/spoofs notwithstanding, the vérité form has only really been embraced very recently by fright filmmakers, ranging from old masters (George A. Romero with Diary Of The Dead) to genre-feature first-timers (the Cloverfield gang), from foreign practitioners ([Rec]’s Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza) to those remaking them (the Dowdle brothers of Quarantine). While the first-person approach can give screen terror an immediacy that traditional filmmaking styles cannot, it also carries the limitation of restricting what the audience-surrogate characters can plausibly capture on their cameras.
