The Dark Place, the eagerly anticipated mystery-thriller from the team behind festival hit Judas Kiss, debuted last weekend to positive reviews.
First seen Friday, June 13th for a special digital premiere audience, the The Dark Place played again Saturday the 14th at the Baltimore Qfest and Sunday the 15th at the Queer Film Festival, Nuremberg. Audiences in multiple cities were excited and entertained by the film.
“It keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire film,” said Andrew Augstyniak, a student at Appalachian State University. “The plot keeps you engaged and you’re trying to figure out the storyline at the same time [the hero] is.”
“I really appreciate the fact that this is a film with gay characters without being gay themed,” commented Roisin Moriarty, of Cork, Ireland. “Their sexuality is a total non-issue which hopefully reflects the way forward both in cinema and real life.”

Eminem totally doesn’t mean those anti-gay lyrics in “Rap God” to be anti-gay. “I don’t know how to say this without saying it how I’ve said it a million times. Shoreline Entertainment, the Los Angeles-based production and sales company, has picked up world sales rights to wine-country mystery-thriller, The Dark Place, from Blue Seraph Productions.
Jody Wheeler (Heat Wave, In the Closet) directed the story, with J.T. Tepnapa (Judas Kiss), from Wheeler’s own screenplay, with Carlos Pedraza producing.
The film focuses on Keegan Dark, a troubled young man cursed with the uncanny ability to remember his life in videographic detail. He returns to his family’s wine estate, boyfriend in tow, to make amends with his estranged mother, only to discover a conspiracy that frames him for murder and threatens his family’s lives and livelihood.
Pictured: After a near-fatal mishap, Keegan Dark (Blaise Embry) is examined by a doctor (Andy Copeland) who may not have Keegan’s best interests at heart.

Queen Elizabeth II has requested television time to sign what is being called a historic pledge of non-discrimination in the Commonwealth. "We are implacably opposed to all forms of discrimination, whether rooted in gender, race, colour, creed, political belief or other grounds." Other grounds is meant to refer to Glbt people, but toned down to defer to members of the Commonwealth that still have draconian gay laws. While it sounds like a cop out to me, diplomatic sources say "The impact of this statement on gay and women’s rights should not be underestimated. Nothing this progressive has ever been approved by the United Nations. And it is most unusual for the Queen to request to sign documents in public, never mind call the cameras in."

The final push is on for the creators of Judas Kiss, as their Kickstarter event to purchase the Red camera to be used on The Dark Place and Something Like Summer (and to help other filmmakers) ends on Sunday, March 10.
Judas Kiss was the multi-award winning festival hit of 2011, scoring a few writing awards along with showing the world that former gay porn star Sean Paul Lockhart (Aka Brent Corrigan) was more than the sum of his…parts, so to speak. Now Judas Kiss actors Lockhart and Timo Descamps are reuniting for The Dark Place, along with new cast members Blaise Embry (Weeds), Eduardo Rioseco (Parenthood), Travis Richey (Untitled Web Series) and Allison Lane (Going Down in La La Land).
What they need is the help of many or just a few “heroes” to reach their $25,000 goal. Please go to their Kickstater site and contribute what you can. Because the...

Blue Seraph Productions announced the casting of Blaise Embry and Eduardo Rioseco for director J.T. Tepnapa’s follow up film to the indie hit Judas Kiss, the mystery-thriller, The Dark Place. Embry and Rioseco join already announced actors Sean Paul Lockhart and Timo Descamps (both in Judas Kiss) as well as Going Down in La La Land’s Allison Lane.
Embry will play Keegan Dark, a troubled young man who returns home to reconcile with his estranged mother, who has been running the family winery estate all by herself. When talking about the new split perspective season of Glee, co-creator Ian Brennan says something that I'm sure will rile our fans up. "Rachel, like it or not, is really the core of the show. She's sort of like the ultimate underdog and it felt weird to pull her out of that. She's part of this continuous story. ... You want to actually see, 'What does that mean once you leave that womb?' Rachel goes from being a big fish in a small pond to a very small fish in the biggest pond ever." Only because you insist on shoving her down our throats.

Brace yourselves. This list of the Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies is probably going to generate some howls of protest thanks to a rather major upset in the rankings. Frankly, one that surprised the hell out of us here at AfterElton.
But before we get to that, an introduction. A few weeks ago we asked AfterElton readers to submit up to ten of their favorite films by write-in vote. We conducted a similar poll several years ago, but a lot has happened culturally since then, and a number of worthy movies of gay interest have been released. We wanted to see how your list of favorites had changed.
We also wanted to expand our list to 100 from the top 50 we had done previously. We figured there were finally enough quality gay films to justify the expansion. And we wanted to break out gay documentaries onto their own list (You'll find the...

Judging by all these reviews, critics are having a very hard time saying something nice about Michael Bay's Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon. But they sure are trying.

50 Cent is coming out with a new book, Playground about a 13-year-old bully “who finds redemption as he faces what he's done." Of course, 50 Cent is somewhat famous for being a bully himself, so I don’t know if this smacks of hypocrisy, redemption, or hubris.
The big news of the day was the continued fallout from At&T attempting to influence Glbt orgs to lobby for their business interests with large cash donations. After Bilerico broke the original story on GLAAD, they’ve followed up with news that at least three other organizations, Ngltf, National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, and Equality California have all admitted to lobbying for the telecom giant. Chris Geidner adds that the Hrc declined to submit a letter in support of the merger.

ABC intends to keep playing with big red balls – Wipeout has been renewed for a fifth season, but with Vanessa Minnillo as the host. I still think the course should be an attraction at Disney.
For reasons that I can only imagine, the small town of Juzcar in Spain has been repainted Smurf blue in honor of the upcoming movie. Sony has promised to restore everything after the promotion, but from the images, I think it looks kind of neat.
There’s a rumor going around that girls are so into getting Justin Bieber’s used Underoos that when he takes them off, a security guard issues him a new pair and takes the used ones to an incinerator. It sounds like an episode of Dirty Jobs, except Mike Rowe wouldn’t even go there.
Five out authors including John Waters, Edmund White and Michael Cunningham name the best gay books in the world.

We largely covered the Tony Awards last night, but here’s a list of Neil Patrick Harris’ best jokes. He had a lot of them. When can we elect him our leader?
In news that seems to surprise some, but not me, the “Gay Girl In Damascus” lesbian blogger rumored to have been kidnapped never existed. It was a 40-year-old American man.
Ron Nyswaner, the gay writer behind Philadelphia, is currently producing a movie with Jesse Eisenberg and Tracy Morgan. He attempts the most insulting apologist piece about Morgan to date. There were tears? You bet there were tears, but Morgan’s don’t interest me.
Author Anna Quindlen gave the commencement address at Grinnell College, and what she said doesn’t distill well. But the heart of it seems to be that the baby boomers have destroyed America by focusing on money, but today’s youth can rebuild it.

First, a reminder that Battlestar Galactica is off to conquer new audiences on BBC America starting tomorrow (Saturday) at 10 pm. For all the details you need, go to BBCAmerica.com. You can find the airing schedule here.
As for cast updates, there really should be more days like this.
Eric Stoltz will guest star in the season premiere of Leverage, titled "The Long Way Down Job," according to an interview with Aldis Hodge (one of the show's stars).
The episode airs on Sunday, June 26 on TNT.
And if your kids are dragging you to the theatre this weekend, you can also catch Eric in the Judy Moody movie, which opens today. L.A. Times says he makes a cameo.

I got an interesting letter in the email yesterday from someone who claims to be a Bryan J. Freedman, an attorney who says he represents upcoming actor Colton Haynes, late of The Gates TV series and currently of MTV’s new Teen Wolf scripted, which debuts this weekend. What was interesting — and concerning — was that the letter said that doorQ.com had posted private, pornographic pictures of Mr. Haynes!
The letter said:
I am contacting you regarding [doorQ.com's]…postings of multiple private, obscene, lewd and pornographic photographs of my client, privately taken…depicting my client… partially or possibly completely nude, engaging in or simulating sexual conduct, in most instances with other individuals.
Ack, right? The letter went on to say that:

Since The Hangover 2 grossed north of $200 million worldwide this weekend, it seems The Hangover 3 is all but inevitable. But at what point do you check these guys into rehab?
Kung Fu Panda 2 “only” grossed $66 million over the holiday in the U.S. by comparison, and investors are punishing DreamWorks and RealD stock, driving it down. I seem to recall them doing the same thing for the opening of How To Train Your Dragon, which went on to become a huge financial success.
Fox has poached PBS! They’ve now greenlit a reality show called Buried Treasure which will feature twin appraisers Leigh and Leslie Keno from Antiques Roadshow traveling the country and helping people find valuables in forgotten corners.

Wolfe Video has acquired the North American DVD and video-on-demand (VOD) rights for the time-bending campus drama, “Judas Kiss,” with release scheduled in Fall 2011.
The scifi-fantasy stars Richard Harmon of AMC’s new hit drama, “The Killing,” and Logo TV star Charlie David (“Dante’s Cove”), as well as adult film star Brent Corrigan (acting under his real name, Sean Paul Lockhart) and Belgian TV and pop star Timo Descamps.
San Jose, Calif.-based Wolfe Releasing is a premier distributor of Glbt films, and it will lead sales of “Judas Kiss” in the United States and Canada.
“Having the Wolfe logo on our film is a testament to its quality and entertainment value,” said the film’s director, J.T. Tepnapa.
Writer and producer Carlos Pedraza added, “Wolfe’s dedication and commitment to promoting and selling “Judas Kiss” was the deciding factor in our decision to sign with them.”

As science-fiction fans, the concept is classic: What if you really did have a chance to fix the mistakes of your past. Would you do it? Could you do it? Hell, would you even recognize that you actually made mistakes in the first place? Those are the questions Carlos Pedraza posed in his screenplay for "Judas Kiss," an independent film starring Charlie David ("Dante's Cove"), Richard Harmon ("Caprica," "The Killing"), Sean Paul Lockhart ("Milk") and Timo Descamps ("Spring"). Pedraza, best known to genre fans for his work in online productions such as "Star Trek: New Voyages" and "Star Trek: Hidden Frontier," made a huge leap to the big screen ... and survived to tell about it. What can you say about "Judas Kiss" without giving away the store. It's hard to do. What I can tell ...

Now this is some real kissing in a music video.
Timo Descamps is mostly famous as a television actor in his native Belgium, but has been breaking out in music since placing third in Steracteur Sterartiest. And he's about to take center stage in America's gay film festival circuit in the indie science fiction film Judas Kiss, starring Charlie David, Brent Corrigan and Richard Harmon.
In advance of the film release, he's just put out the music video "Like It Rough" from the sound track. The video features both Descamps and Corrigan making out with movie costar Genevieve Buechner ... and each other.
The song has a very Eurovision sound to my ear, but visually, the video is interesting. And it certainly does its job of getting me more interested in the film. What did you think?

I produced a music video on Thursday. Pretty damn wicked, too. Well, I think was. I'd never quite thought I'd get a chance to write and produce one either, but then part of this wonderful adventure I undertook a few years back has lead me to unexpected -- and incredible -- vistas. Even with Thursday's efforts, the video is still only half done: the American locations are out of the way. We still have to grab some distinctly Belgian views: castles and moats and stuff. Moody, see?
I should note that this video was a last minute thing. We knew we wanted to do one, but what to do remained nebulous until a week before everyone left for Judas Kiss -- which probably tells you everything you need to know about the music video, except for the song, and the subject. Well, it does tie in to Judas Kiss. It does star Timo Descamps.

It's Day Four of the Judas Kiss production, the long talked about -- by me, anyway -- gay Sf feature film about second chances, fate and cute guys. The shoot continues to proceed at a good clip. Wonderfully, Jt hasn't fallen behind on making the days' shots, always a concern on a low-budget film and an incredible testament to the entire, outstanding crew.
Shawn Anderson, the on set photographer, has released some incredible B&W, behind the scenes shots from the film. They really give the actors, crew and director an otherworldly air, perfect for a film like this.

With Judas Kiss shooting next week, I've been, again, swamped with work. The funny thing is I have less work to do than Jt or Carlos, but I still have a hell-of-a-lot to do. Well, I'm also playing host to Timo Descamps for the week. He's zipping around the house in his underwear, eating his high protein diet, running along the beach, sunning by the pool and soaking in the hot tub, all to be in top shape for the film.
You can see my difficulties, no?
We've got size-able rehearsals today, once again at my place. I think it's something about the community pool that attracts everyone. Or the refrigerator full of soft-drinks. Or Timo in his underwear. Brent Corrigan, Julia Morizawa and Tim Foutch are descending shortly. As is the illustrious J.T. Tepnapa.
Interesting fact about Jt. Angels sing as he walks. It's true because I'm putting it on the internet.

Belgium is not just the producers of chocolate, stroop-waffels and Timo Descamps. Next up from the little country at the crossroads of Europe is Vampires, a satiric take on one family's struggle with vampirism -- their own.
The Quiet Earth blog reviews the film, now playing at the Sci-Fi London Film Festival:
A documentary film crew introduces us to husband and wife Georges and Bertha and their children Samson and Grace, a family of vampires living in suburban Belgium. Georges is a bit creepy, Bertha a little unhinged and Samson a bit of a tearaway, but otherwise they seem like a normal family. Grace is a teenager going through a difficult phase, repeatedly trying to kill herself (which, as an immortal vampire, she can't) and yearning to be human. It's a comedy set up, and this part of the film provides the most laughs in a very funny movie.
