Written and to be directed by Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook), based on the novel of the same name by Boston Teran, the film will follow vice detective Bob Hightower (Coster-Waldau) who finds his ex-wife murdered and daughter kidnapped by a satanic cult. Frustrated by the botched official investigations, he quits the force, gets tattoos, and infiltrates the cult to hunt down the cult leader with the help of the cult’s only female victim escapee, Case Hardin (Monroe). Daniel Craig has jumped on board a new film project called The Creed of Violence, which will be directed by Todd Field. Field hasn’t directed a movie since 2006’s Little Children.
Craig will take on the role of a character named Rawbone, who is an assassin during the Mexican Revolution. The movie is actually based on a novel written by Boston Teran, and this is the novel’s synopsis, which gives us more information on the interesting story that the film will tell.
Mexico, 1910. At the Mexican-American border, the landscape pulses with the force of the upcoming revolution, an atmosphere rich in opportunity for a criminal such as Rawbone. His fortune arrives across the haze of the Sierra Blanca in the form of a truck loaded with weapons, an easy sell to those financing a bloodletting.

He may not have even started filming his final furore as Bond in ‘Bond 25’ but Daniel Craig is already looking to his Bond-less future by joining Todd Field’s ‘The Creed of Violence’.
The film is an adaptation of Boston Teran’s novel, set during the 1910 Mexican revolution, the story is told through the eyes of a small-time assassin named Rawbone (Craig) and a young Bureau of Investigation agent called John Lourdes. The pair – who are also estranged father-and-son – work together to infiltrate the Mexican criminal underground.
This will mark Field’s third feature-length directorial outing, his last being 13 years ago with ‘Little Children’. Filming is expected to commence in Spring 2020 once Craig wraps on ‘Bond 25’. Hacksaw Ridge’s Brian Oliver will produce.

No film buff wants to see a promising, or prominent filmmaker pull a disappearing act a la Terrence Malick, (though it seems he isn’t keen to repeat another lapse like the one between Days of Heaven to The Thin Red Line), but whether they’re dealing with unforeseeable professional (endless pre-production woes, writer’s block) or personal issues, sometimes there is a considerable time between projects.

Variety reports that Christian Bale is in very early talks to take to star in Universal's adaptation of Boston Teran's 1910 Mexican revolution-set novel The Creed of Violence. Todd Field (Little Children) is set to direct and pen the script.
Bale would take on the role of Rawbone, a small-time assasin who must work together with a young Bureau of Investigation agent to infiltrate the Mexican criminal underground, encountering thieves, smugglers and professional killers.
It was reported last year that Leonardo DiCaprio was interested in starring in this project. Not sure if that's still a possibility, but if Bale and DiCaprio were on screen together that would be pretty epic.
Producers are aiming for to start shoooting on location in both the American Southwest and parts of Mexico in early 2013.

Christian Bale is leaving Gotham and heading for Mexico.
The "Dark Knight" star is officially rising to new challenges as he's in talks to join the cast of director Todd Field's crime drama, "The Creed of Violence," according to Variety.
The project first appeared on our radar last summer when word hit that Leonardo DiCaprio had been offered a role in the screen adaptation of the novel by cult author Boston Teran. "Creed" takes place circa 1910 and follows a criminal named Rawbone who tries to transport a cache of weapons into Mexico as part of the country's revolution. He is eventually caught and then accompanied by a government agent named John Lourdes, who shares a secret past with him.

Christian Bale doesn’t seem to be resting on his laurels even remotely post-The Dark Knight Rises, as he’s busied himself with roles in Out of the Furnace and no less than two Terrence Malick films (one is Knight of Cups, in which he’ll star, the other is that pesky untitled Austin-set sex thriller, in which he could – who knows – also be the star). But now the actor might jump back into the saddle of Ye Old Western films (he’s previously starred in 3:10 To Yuma, a modern Western classic) with Todd Field’s take on Boston Teran‘s novel, Creed of Violence. Bale is in negotiations to lead the film, according to Variety, which is set during the 1910 Mexican revolution and centers on the unlikely pairing of criminal Rawbone (the part Bale would play) and young Bureau of Investigations agent John Lourdes. A major part of what makes Christian Bale such a fascinating figure and compelling performer is that he's willing to take major risks with his work. Not only does he fully immerse himself into his characters.sometimes to the point of frightful emaciation.but also he's also willing to totally invest in the vision of different directors, thereby transcending genre lines and casting niches that many other stars have been confined by. Of course, the past few years' Bale's career has been chiefly tied to Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. But with The Dark Knight Rises, Bale's connection to the potentially continuing franchise appears to have been severed. Now, he's free to pursue new roles and challenges. It’s frustrating, being a fan of Todd Field. The man crafted two of America’s finer recent dramas (In the Bedroom and Little Children), took five years between those two, and has been quiet since the latter hit in late 2006. There was some big, thrilling momentum when Cormac McCarthy‘s Blood Meridian started rolling right along… and then that fell right through the cracks. And then, in turn, I was left wanting more.
But the seeds of a new project are finally sprouting. Think back, if you can, to last July, when reports surfaced that he and Leonardo DiCaprio were gravitating toward The Creed of Violence, a (appropriately) violent take on Boston Teran‘s well-regarded western novel. Then, as per usual with Field, we didn’t hear anything else — until now. Variety informs us that Universal and Cross Creek Pictures are taking up distribution and financing duties on Violence,...

Eight Academy Award nominations after your first two feature films ain’t too shabby. For an encore? Crickets. Last year we asked: where in the world is writer/director Todd Field? The actor turned filmmaker has had several projects gestating for several years, but he hasn't made a feature since 2006’s well-received "Little Children," which added three Oscar nominations to his total.

(from left) John Moore, Joe Cornish, Justin Lin and Nicolas Winding Refn It seems there is already more to the Die Hard 5 director story than I reported this morning as John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines, Max Payne) is one of four names on Fox's shortlist to direct the feature now that Noam Murro has moved on to direct 300: Battle of Artemisia for Warner Bros. Along with Moore, Attack the Block helmer Joe Cornish, Justin Lin (Fast Five) and Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) will meet to potentially helm the film scripted by Skip Woods. For some more details on the film and its plot, check out my previous report right here. [Deadline]

Apparently, there was enough gold in them thar hills this weekend with Cowboys & Aliens that Universal is developing another western-themed star vehicle — this time with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead. According to the Los Angeles Times (and confirmed by EW), the studio is developing an adaptation of Boston Teran’s 2010 novel about a smalltime assassin who runs guns to Mexico in 1910 with a lawman in hot pursuit. It’s not clear yet which role DiCaprio is considering, but if the A-lister signs on, it would not only help fast-track the film, but would also be his second commitment to the...

The actor is already taking on a villainous role in Quentin Tarantino's spaghetti western Django Unchained, but apparently Leonardo DiCaprio is also interested in another western for a future project. 24 Frames reports DiCaprio has been offered one of the lead role in an adaptation of The Creed of Violence which has been in development for a few years now with In the Bedroom director Todd Field attached. Apparently he's in the midst of deciding on whether or not he'll ultimately take the role, but apparently it's a project he's been very eager to star in for a little while, but it's likely a matter of fitting it into his schedule. The story, set around 1910 and bsed on Boston Teran's book of the same, follows a criminal named Rawbone who tries to take a cache of weapons into Mexico as part of the country's revolution but is caught ...

The resurgence of westerns is continuing after the success of last year’s “True Grit,” and the recent theater release of “Cowboys & Aliens.” Universal Pictures is developing “The Creed of Violence,” a western based on last year’s novel written by Boston Teran. According to certain insiders to the Los Angeles Times, the script has even attracted actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who wants one of the lead roles. Both DiCaprio’s spokesman and the studio rep have declined to comment. Here is the novel’s synopsis: Mexico, 1910. The landscape pulses with the force of the upcoming revolution, an atmosphere rich in opportunity for a criminal such as Rawbone. His fortune arrives across the haze of the Sierra Blanca in the form of a truck loaded with weapons. But Rawbone’s plan spins against him, and he soon finds himself at the Mexican-American border and in the hands of the Bureau of Investigation.

[1] Leonardo DiCaprio hasn't done a whole lot of Westerns in his 20-year career (1995's The Quick and the Dead notwithstanding), but that may be changing soon with a couple of new projects. Earlier this summer, we reported [2] on Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, which would see DiCaprio in the role of villainous plantation owner Calvin Candie, and now DiCaprio is said to be eyeing an adaptation of Boston Teran's Western novel The Creed of Violence. Todd Field (Little Children) is attached to direct, as he has been for several years. Read more details after the jump. According to "a person who was briefed on the actor's plans," Leonardo DiCaprio has been offered [3] a lead role in the film. Although the actor has not yet made his decision, the same person reported that DiCaprio was "eager" to tackle the project -- so it seems likely he'll accept, if he can...

It’s been a few years since Leonardo DiCaprio strapped on the spurs for Sam Raimi’s The Quick and the Dead, his last time venturing into the dusty deserts of the Western genre. But with Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained (admittedly not a pure example of the films), he’s getting back to it. And now comes the possibility that he's being courted for The Creed of Violence.Violence has been in development for a couple of years now, with Todd Field attached to adapt and direct the script from Boston Teran’s novel.Set in 1910 on the Mexican-American border, it follows a criminal called Rawbone who buys a truckload of arms to take to Mexico, where revolution is brewing. Apprehended by the Bureau of Investigation, he is coerced into going through with his plan as an undercover agent, accompanied by Agent John Lourdes, who has a secret history with Rawbone.

Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly interested to play one of the lead characters in Todd Field's "Creed of Violence". A period western, the movie is based on the unpublished novel written by Boston Teran.
The story, set in 1910, revolves around an estranged father and son trying to thwart an arms smuggling ring bringing weapons to Mexico. A criminal named Rawbone tries to smuggle weapons into Mexico, but he is caught and accompanied by a government agent with whom he shares a mysterious past. DiCaprio is eying either of the two roles.
"In the Bedroom" director Field has been developing the project for some time. But if the report is true, then DiCaprio's involvement could speed things up.
A rep for the actor is yet to comment on the story published by Los Angeles Times. A person was "briefed on the actor's plans but could not talk about it publicly because...

Rumours are rife that Leonardo DiCaprio could be set to join another period western: Todd Field's The Creed Of Violence. We haven’t seen anything from three time Oscar nominated writer/director Todd Field since his cynical suburban drama Little Children five years ago but as much trouble as he’s had finding financial backing for his non-mainstream follow-ups (an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian couldn’t get pick up steam, despite the backing of The Social Network producer supreme Scott Rudin), all his studio figthing and frustrations may soon be over. Maybe.
You see once a Hollywood A-lister at the top of his game like Leonardo DiCaprio gets interested in one of your projects, well things change dramatically in the minds of studio execs and they will suddenly start saying yes to what they previously said no too. Where once you couldn’t get hold of them for days only to eventually hear ‘Well, maybe we’ll do it but not right now”, they suddenly situp and get eager.

Leonardo DiCaprio might be looking to ride into the sunset.
"The Creed of Violence," a 1910-set Western-flavored crime drama based on the novel by cult author Boston Teran, has apparently caught the eye of the "Shutter Island" star, according to 24 Frames.
"Creed" tells the story of a criminal named Rawbone who tries to transport a cache of weapons into Mexico as part of the country's revolution but is caught and then accompanied by a government agent who shares a secret past with him.
DiCaprio has allegedly been offered one of the two lead roles. The film has been in development at Universal with Todd Field attached to direct.
"The Creed of Violence" would be Field's first film since "Little Children," the 2006 drama starring Kate Winslet (Leo's "Titanic" and "Revolutionary Road" co-star) and Jennifer Connelly (Leo's "Blood Diamond" co-star).
Leo is currently attached to another Western-flavored project: Quentin Tarantino's self-described "Southern,...

It’s been almost four years since we saw something from Todd Field, which was 2006′s excellent Little Children. For years, many of us thought the next film of his would be an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy‘s Blood Meridian, but James Franco swooped in and now has it on his plate. The last real update on him came in June 2009, when it was said that he was working on another adaptation, this one being of Boston Teran‘s Western novel, Creed of Violence.
And now here we are, more than two years later, and our next story about him deals with this project; funny how that sometimes works out. It’s a promising update, too, with 24Frames (via CinemaBlend) reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio has been approached for a lead part. He’s showing up in another western at the end of next year with Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained,...
