RomCom Filming in NY: Grant, Tomei Star for Director Lawrence Marc Lawrence’s as-yet untitled, New York-set romantic comedy toplining Hugh Grant and Best Supporting Actress Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei began principal photography yesterday, April 17, producer Martin Shafer announced. -- Pictured above: Marisa Tomei, looking more beautiful than ever. Here's the plot, as per the film's press release: In 1998, Keith Michaels, played by Hugh Grant, was on top of the world -- a witty, sexy, Englishman in Hollywood who had just won a major screenwriter’s award. Fifteen years later, he’s creatively washed up, divorced, and broke. With no other options, he takes a job teaching screenwriting at a small college in Binghamton, New York. Although the idea of teaching is less than thrilling, he hopes to make some easy money and enjoy the favors of impressionable young co-eds. What he doesn’t expect to find is romance...

As in demand as he is right now, something that Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty" is only going to cement, Joel Edgerton seems intent on marching to the beat of his own drum. So for his next film, rather than taking the Hollywood dime, he's working on the thriller "Felony," based on his own script, and according to a press release, he's just got a great co-star in the shape of Oscar-nominee Tom Wilkinson. In the Matthew Saville-directed project Edgerton plays a cop who accidentally hits a child in his car, only to lie about the accident, while Wilkinson plays the lead investigator of the incident. Sounds promising, although we're curious to see whether this turns out to be set in Australia, or in the U.S. Nearly twenty years on from his break out in Mike Leigh's "Naked," David Thewlis has become a go-to name for big directors,...

Quentin Tarantino and Steve McQueen dared to tackle race and slavery with their latest projects, "Django Unchained" and "Twelve Years A Slave," and it looks like they've now paved the way for other filmmakers to follow suit. One such example is British helmer Amma Asante who's set to adapt the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle -- a half-black illegitimate daughter of renowned Admiral Sir John Lindsay, eventually taken in and raised as an aristocratic lady in 18th Century England by Lindsay's uncle William Murray, the Earl of Mansfield.
Most impressive is the cast Asante has managed to put together, which sees Gugu Mbatha-Raw ("Larry Crowne," J.J. Abrams' short-lived "Undercovers") in the title role with rising stars Sarah Gadon, Sam Claflin, Emily Watson and Matthew Goode all co-starring alongside veterans Tom Wilkinson and Miranda Richardson. Gadon and Claflin are notably taking prominent roles respectively playing Belle's cousin and love interest,...

"Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" wont be in theaters until December 21st and Jeremy Renner isn't too worried about it. Recently at a press junket I interviewed Jeremy in regards to his new role in this million dollar franchise. Jeremy plays agent William Brandt, a desk jockey with little field experience, or so we think who squares off with Ethan through the course of the film. At least that's the impression we get from the trailer. Instead of screening the film for the press we were treated to six scenes, approximately 30 minutes of the film in IMAX, which was impressive. When it comes to story line, well I'm pretty much in the dark too. Although the IMAX scenes were incredible and well executed, it's almost the only way to see this film. I spoke to Jeremy about entering this franchise, doing stunt work, how life has changes since "The Hurt Locker...

In a smart move by Paramount, they’ve nudged back Brad Bird‘s Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol from December 16th to Wednesday December 21st, 2011. Deadline reports the studio has backed away from Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked the previous week to now battle David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Steven Spielberg‘s The Adventures of Tintin, the sci-fi thriller The Darkest Hour, Cameron Crowe‘s We Bought A Zoo, and Angelina Jolie‘s directorial debut In The Land Of Blood And Honey.
It’s going to be a busy winter, folks. It also will be a fight for IMAX screens, as Protocol and Tintin are both headed to the format, with the former actually having scenes natively shot in it. Ghost Protocol stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Anil Kapoor, Michael Nyqvist and Tom Wilkinson.
