Ben Foster (The Survivor), Justice Smith (Sharper), Katherine Waterston (Babylon) and Maria Bakalova (Bodies Bodies Bodies) are set to star in the Topic Studios thriller Floodplain from director Tim Sutton.
The film explores themes of family trauma, environmental justice and race via the story of a man (Foster) who must return to his hometown to help prevent a catastrophic flood and confront the mistakes from his past.
Floodplain reteams Topic Studios with Foster following their work together on Debra Granik’s Leave No Trace. Bill Gullo wrote the script, with Oscar nominee Jordan Horowitz (La La Land) of Original Headquarters to produce alongside Annie Marter (The Devil All the Time). Topic Studios will finance the pic, with Ryan Heller, Michael Bloom and Jennifer Westin exec producing for the company.
Crystal Bourbeau will introduce the project to buyers at EFM with UTA Independent Film Group, which is co-repping the domestic rights.

A drama about Jesuit priests struggling with their faith in a 17th century Japan was never going to bring in the same size audience as the experience of seeing an uninhibited Leonardo DiCaprio experience every kind of excess, but thankfully the disappointing box-office of Silence isn’t deterring Martin Scorsese from returning to faith-pondering dramas.
“He wants to make more films like this, that are spiritual, basically, but not set in 17th century Japan,” Scorsese’s longtime editor Thelma Schoonmaker tells Crave Online, adding that one could be set in the modern time. “So hopefully we’ll be able to make that. Not the next one, the next one is The Irishman, which is De Niro and Joe Pesci and elderly gangsters. So that’ll be very different from Silence. But maybe the one after that!”
As we await Scorsese’s next film, we also have an update from another one of his collaborators.

The Quitter's low-key approach to its well-trodden redemption arc — an ex-ballplayer (Matthew Bonifacio) turns his life around by reuniting with his ex-girlfriend (Julianna Gelinas Bonifacio) and reconnecting with the daughter (Destiny Monet Cruz) he abandoned seven years ago — might seem like a welcome strategy.
But screenwriter Bill Gullo (working in a much different register than his sci-fi indie +1) and director-producer-star Bonifacio (Lbs., Amexicano) hedge their bets so far that the resultant movie is less pleasantly relaxed than it is simply lacking in drama. Cast: Rhys Wakefield (David), Logan Miller (Teddy), Ashley Hinshaw (Jill), Natalie Hall (Melanie), Rohan Kymal (Angad)
“Plus One” may not seem like a straight up horror film. I found myself watching it early on and debating its horror chops. Maybe a little drama, maybe a little sci-fi swirled in. Thriller may be where you might find this disc residing in a bricks and mortar video store, if such a thing exists anymore. I’m going with horror though, and I can back it up by saying that “Plus One” goes where it’s really scary. Something supernatural happens and turns the volume way up on all the natural stuff like unrequited love, jealousy, anger, self-preservation, loneliness, paranoia, and the most terrifying of all adolescence.

A new red band trailer shows the potentially deadly results of confronting their twins and quite a sexy party. Watch! Have you ever seen a movie about a group of high school (or perhaps college age) kids who go to a party, only to come up against something outrageously violent or dangerous or horrific? Of course you have. You're older than ten years old and you're reading film reviews on FEARnet. It's only pertinent because the new sci-fi / horror / feature-length Twilight Zone-ish movie called Plus One (or simply +1) is well aware of all those movies, and it knows you are too.
With that in mind, it's cool to note that Plus One is not about stalkers or monsters or alien invaders. As the title plainly indicates, it's a thriller about "plus ones." In other words, everyone at this rowdy house party seems to have spawned a double! Or a clone! Or something like that. Most of the partiers are way too distracted to notice the bizarre new arrivals, but...

When it comes to exploring the space-time continuum, I’m admittedly a bit of a novice, but the thought of alternate realities and other versions of ourselves existing is always an intriguing concept. Bring it up around any philosophers, and you could spark a debate that lasts hours on end, but thankfully Dennis Iliadis’ film +1 is a much simpler beast. Part party-hearty, rambunctious teen comedy, part doppelgänger sci-fi mystery, Iliadis creates a tense and hectic scenario by avoiding too many explanations, benefiting from simplicity instead of handcuffing himself with brainless stupidity. It’s a quick, easily watchable thriller that makes you accept what’s happening, and one that won’t challenge minds in a way that some heavy-handed genre releases dump mountains of information on viewers. All you have to do is strap in and go along for Iliadis’ ride.

Well this looks a little crazy as IFC has just premiered the first trailer and poster for the alternate universe film +1, which played the SXSW Film Festival back in March and centers on three college friends who go to the biggest party of the year only things take a strange turn when the power goes out and each begins seeing their night played back in front of them. There seems to be some decision the characters come to where they appear to believe that if time in the alternate reality catches up to their new reality then something bad may happen and the trailer seems to suggest one of them will makeout with themselves and others may hurt themselves. Then there's the poster, which seems to suggest an alien invasion and aliens have assumed the form of the central characters and the central characters alone, who are played by Rhys Wakefield...

"How many chances do you get?" We've seen wild party nights recently in the form of Project X, 21 & Over and The Hangover Part III, but sometime tells me that we've never seen a party like this. +1 starts off as what seems like another college party movie, but then turns into something potentially extraordinary. David (Rhys Wakefield from The Purge) and Teddy (Logan Miller of "I'm with the Band") get into this epic party, and while one messes things up with his girlfriend (Ashley Hinshaw of About Cherry and Chronicle) the other has the best night of his life. But then the party goers notice something strange at the party as they see versions of themselves from the past reliving the same night from hours before. What?! The feature film slate for Austin's South by Southwest festival (SXSW) was revealed last week, but as most genre fans know, the real cinematic treasures are lurking in the festival's midnight lineup. As SXSW Programmer Jarod Neece put it: "This year we scoured the globe and brought back a batch that we knew would truly satisfy the gore hounds of SXSW. Full of scares, sex, madness, laughs, chills and major mind f--ks, we hope there's a little something for everyone."
Browsing the titles, it's hard to tear our eyes away from a film called "Big Ass Spider" (directed by Mike Mendez of "The Gravedancers"), but the addition of Rob Zombie's "Lords of Salem," sequel "V/H/S/2," a movie from "Splice"'s Vincenzo Natali ("Haunter"), and vampire tale "Kiss of the Damned" from Xan Cassavetes certainly helps.

I wasn’t expecting some of the first Cannes-related business to pertain to the director of 2009′s Last House on the Left — maybe Xavier Dolan would sell the movie he thinks should be in competition, or something — but here we are. According to THR, the (technically) aforementioned Dennis Iliadis has made a deal to helm the supernatural Plus One, which Sierra/Affinity and producer Tim Perell will hawk to the international crowd in just a week or so.
Written by Bill Gullo — and based on an idea from the helmer himself — Plus One, as the title may hint, revolves around “the party of the decade” (that was my italicization), and how everything spins out of control when unknown forces start terrorizing the hapless attendees. People will, more likely than not, perish.
And, well, that’s all we have to tell you. While it certainly isn’t a great well of information,...

Ever been at a party having a great time when all of a sudden everything goes to hell in a handbasket? Usually, that means I showed up, but in this case we're talking about the new flick from Last House on the Left remake director, Dennis Iliadis.
THR reports that Iliadis will direct the thriller Plus One for Tim Perell's production company.
Sierra/Affinity will shop the project to international distributors at the upcoming Cannes Film Market. Iliadis is set to start shooting on June 11 in Atlanta. Bill Gullo penned the script based on a story by Iliadis.
In Plus One the party of the decade is disrupted by a mysterious phenomenon, and the evening quickly descends into chaos. More as we get it!

Sierra/Affinity will handle international sales at Cannes for Plus One, the Dennis liadis-directed thriller. Script is by Bill Gullo based on a story by Iliadis, and Tim Perell is producing the film via his production company Process. Organisers of the Tribeca Film Festival have announced this year's line-up of 60 short films, 22 of which are world premieres.
The international festival was founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, producer Jane Rosenthal and real-estate investor Craig Hatkoff to help revitalise Manhattan's Tribeca neighbourhood following the 9/11 terrorist attack.
The 2011 event - presented by founding sponsor American Express - will run from April 20 to May 1. The 60 shorts represent 21 countries, including the UK, and feature stars from around the globe.
In a new development this year, the recipient of the Tff Best Narrative Short award will qualify for consideration in the Short Films category of the Oscars without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with Academy rules.
The short film program, drawn from 2,862 submissions, will be presented in eight thematic programs, which are detailed below.
There is a broad spectrum of styles and storytelling, from zombies taking over Manhattan to the humanitarian effort in Haiti.
