Sony Pictures Classics has acquired multi-territory rights to Matt Tyrnauer’s “Where’s My Roy Cohn?”, individuals familiar with the deal told Variety.
The film premiered in the U.S. documentary competition from Tyranuer, known for tackling culture-shapers like designer Valentino Garavani, Studio 54 co-founder Ian Schrager and Hollywood pimp Scotty Bowers. The sale includes U.S. rights, and will include a theatrical release.
Using rare archival footage, “Where’s My Roy Cohn” looks at the infamous New York attorney — a man who represented power brokers, Catholic church leaders, and mobsters. Cohn exploded onto the stage as a top lieutenant of Sen. Joseph McCarthy. He later became a mentor of none other than future President Donald Trump, advising him to always “punch back” when the real estate developer was being sued for housing discrimination. A closeted homosexual, Cohn died of AIDS-related complications in 1986.

Scotty tells his own story in a way that compels belief. It’s a fine docu but not for all audiences, as some hardcore content is included.

Fox Searchlight has launched development of a biopic about Scotty Bowers in the wake of the release of Matt Tyrnauer’s documentary “Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood.”
The biopic is set up with Tyrnauer and his producing partner Corey Reeser of Altimeter Films. No director or writer is yet attached.
The documentary premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and was released on July 27 by Greenwich Entertainment at a single theater, then expanded to 10 sites last weekend with domestic grosses of $83,196. “Scotty” follows Bowers, a World War II Marine combat veteran who fought at the Battle of Iwo Jima and became a legendary bisexual male hustler and all-purpose date-arranger for Hollywood movie stars from the 1940s until the beginning of the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s.
Peter Debruge said in his review for Variety, “No one tells stories like Scotty Bowers. Dishy, sordid, and deliciously off-color,...

As the $71.3 billion sale of Rupert Murdoch’s Twentieth Century Fox movie and television assets to box office titan Disney moves forward, the question of what will happen to specialty distributor Fox Searchlight has been answered.
As IndieWire’s Anne Thompson noted last month, “So far, Disney executives have been friendly, but current Fox Film chairwoman Stacey Snider wasted no time announcing new multi-year deals — and exalted chairman titles — for 18-year Searchlight veterans Stephen Gilula and Nancy Utley, riding high after their multiple Oscar wins for Best Picture winner ‘The Shape of Water’ and ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,’ which took home Best Actress for Frances McDormand. Both films topped $100-million worldwide.”
They needn’t have worried. During a Tuesday afternoon earnings conference call, Disney movie chief Bob Iger promised that Searchlight would continue its normal operations under the ownership of Disney. “It’s hard to argue that Searchlight needs help from anyone,...

As Matt Tyrnauer’s sexy documentary “Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood” hits theaters in New York and L.A., returning gregarious 95-year-old Scotty Bowers to the Big Apple for the first time since the ’60s, documentarian Matt Tyrnauer and his producing partner Corey Reeser of Altimeter Films have pacted with Fox Searchlight to produce a biopic about the notorious gay matchmaker’s unique point-of-view on the sex life of Hollywood movie stars. No director or writer are yet attached.
Some would call the ex-Marine a pimp. The tousle-haired author of scandalous 2012 memoir “Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Lives of the Stars” put gay people together via a Hollywood gas station for rendezvous with celluloid luminaries, from Charles Laughton to Walter Pidgeon. Of course, Bowers wrote his Hollywood tell-all after the marquee names were all dead.

Exclusive: Altimeter Films is in production on Don’t Mess With Roy Cohn, a documentary that explores the long-range impact of Roy Cohn and makes the case that Cohn’s polarizing strategies set the stage for the rise of President Donald Trump. Pic covers Cohn’s early days as right-hand man to Senator Joseph McCarthy to his growth into the quintessential New York City power broker and attorney for myriad clients that included the future U.S. president. The film contextualizes Cohn’s influence on American politics, since the 1950s. As a recent Vanity Fair story by docu producer Marie Brenner posits: “Donald Trump and Roy Cohn’s ruthless symbiosis changed America.”
The film’s directed by Matt Tyrnauer and produced by Tyrnauer and Corey Reeser’s Altimeter Films, and Brenner, in association with Wavelength Productions. Lyn Lear, Jenifer Westphal, Lynn Pincus, Ernest Pomerantz, and Elliott Sernel are exec producers...

“I felt good that I made so many people happy,” says caterer to the stars Scotty Bowers in this new trailer for Matt Tyrnauer’s documentary Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood.
And as you might infer from the film’s title, Bowers wasn’t your typical caterer. Based on the memoir Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Lives of the Stars, the cinema-vérité documentary profiles the man who says he connected some of Hollywood’s Golden Age greats with sexual partners of their choice, gay, straight or both.
“People wanted something, Scotty would get it,” as one of the Cannes doc’s interviewees puts it. Those people, Bowers says, included Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Charles Laughton, Rock Hudson, Spencer Tracy, Cole Porter, to name a select few.

As part of the Lost production crew, aside from writing the occasional episode, Gregg Nations is the script coordinator in charge of continuity. That's right, I said continuity when talking about a show that takes place in the past, present, and future – all at once.
Amongst other things, it is Nations that catalogs the minutiae that fans sift through religiously looking for clues to the shows meaning (check out LOSTpedia, the temple constructed to reflect those efforts), along with the various bits of background information on each of the many characters on the canvas, historical figure name dropping, and – as fractured as it may be – the overarching time-line (and for all we know, parallel timeline to boot).
