So who didn’t make the cut? There was a bit of an uproar online on Sunday over the late stars who didn’t end up featured in the 2023 Oscars “In Memoriam” segment.
While this year’s tribute to those stars we’ve lost was moving and emotional — featuring a tearful introduction from John Travolta and a powerful performance of “Calling All Angels” by Lennt Kravitz — glaring omission of some big-name stars shook up some viewers at home.
Anne Heche — who died following a fiery car crash in August at the age of 53 — was not a part of the segment, despite her many film roles.
Also absent from the televised tribute was longtime film veteran Tom Sizemore — who died on Mar. 3, at age 61, two weeks after suffering a brain aneurysm that left him hospitalized.
One of the most surprising omissions was that of Charlbi Dean, who died on Aug. 22 at...

Presenting the Supporting Actresses of '44. A low class maid, a French baroness, a patriotic nurse, a weary shop-owner and a "Chinese" village woman battled it out for Oscar gold. We're here to re-judge that contest.
The Nominees
from left to right: Barrymore, Jones, Lansbury, MacMahon, Moorehead
Oscar was still besotted with recent nominees Jennifer Jones & Agnes Moorehead (both on their quick second nominations) but joining the party were two veterans who'd never been honored (Ethel Barrymore & Aline MacMahon) and one very fresh face who would go on to an enviably long cross-platform showbiz career, now in its 73rd year (!) -- Angela Lansbury in her film debut!
Notable supporting roles for women that the Academy passed over in 1944 were Mary Astor (Meet Me in St Louis), Shirley Temple (Since You Went Away), Dame May Whitty (Gaslight), and Joseph Hull & Jean Adair (Arsenic & Old Lace). Can you think of any others?...

Nooooo. I almost forgot to share the National Film Registries new titles. Each year they add 25 pictures that are deemed historically, culturally or aesthetically important. Each year I suggest that we should watch all the titles together. Well, the ones we can find at least. Perhaps we'll actually do that for 2016 -- you never know! Getting a spot on the National Film Registry is more symbolic than active. It does not guarantee preservation or restorations but it does suggest that these films should all be preserved and/or restored.
The 2015 additions are:
Edison Kinetoscopic Record of a Sneeze (1894) - watch it now. it's six seconds long... the earliest surviving copyrighted film Dream of a Rarebit Fiend (1906) -watch it now. (7 minutes) from a short Winsor McCay comic strip A Fool There Was (1915) -watch it now. (66 minutes) Theda Bara tempts a married man! It's always the woman's fault, don't you know Humoresque...

Hopes that Madonna would re-claim her pop crown from Lady Gaga with "Mdna" were dashed when the album plunged on the charts shortly after its March release -- a victim of weak single choices and, some say, a lack of promotion on the Material Girl's part.
Now one high-profile producer is opening up about the experience on Facebook, saying he wishes "Mdna" would've turned out differently and blaming the album's failure on rush marketing and timing.
"[Madonna] was on form and better than ever with her singing and writing and musicality, and was having a great time," writes William Orbit, who previously collaborated with the pop star on her 1998 album "Ray of Light," which won four Grammy awards. "We had songs lined up that were breathtaking."
But then, from the sounds of it, things turned sour. After one fan comments on Orbit's page, noting that "most people are writing off" the...

At the Indiana State Fair, minutes prior to a Sugarland performance, the stage rigging collapsed in a wind gust, killing at least five people and injuring dozens. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those lost.
Breaking Bad is renewed for a final season of 16 episodes on A&E. It's likely that will bring it to a close in 2013, which should give me time to catch up from the beginning before the end.
Rep. Michele Bachmann again dodged questions about gay rights, denied previous audio footage and claimed she doesn't judge. She's terrifyingly impossible to knock off message. She doesn’t' answer the question that's asked, just what her talking points are. And I'm afraid most of the country doesn't notice.
Slightly more entertaining is this satiric piece about Governor Rick Perry who may be the true threat.

Sean Hayes is set to play Larry in The Three Stooges, joining Will Sasso as Curley. I’ll be honest, if any of the Stooges ever pinged my gaydar it was always Curley, but I can see Hayes in this role – he’s a great physical comedian.
Don’t get any ideas, Mr. Jensen.
Texas is pushing a bill that would require any university that has a Glbt studies program to spend an equal number of dollars promoting heterosexual studies. I just hope they wrote the law as reciprocal, because I’d love to see a bunch of liberal academics decide to explain how 99% of everything in the world promotes heterosexuality, so they need to dump billions into gay studies to equal things out.
Voting opens today fo the MTV O Music Awards, and some of your favorites are up. Head on over and make the gay voice heard!

- [Pierre-Alexandre Despatis suffers for his cinema. Now covering his second edition, our official festival reporter and multi-function human cyborg will provide us the sights (plenty of cool pics!), the sounds, the reviews and the occasional interviews of the still very young 5th edition of the Tribeca film festival. Below are some of Pierre-Alexandre’s reviews in easy to read, insightful capsule form. Enjoy!] Boy CULTUREBased on the acclaimed novel by Matthew Rettenmund, Q. Allan Brocka's second feature Boy Culture relates the story of mr. X, a very successful hustler, or rather, 'a hustler with morals' as he labels himself. At age 26, and after a 10-year long career that started with his dentist at the time, mr. X is faced with a new complications ... emotions! From the opening credits the style of the film is very sleek and original, while being down-to-earth enough to make us feel uncomfortable as the main character is slowly falling apart and loosing grip on everything he has. The tag line of the film is "Sex pays . Love Cost". More complex than most gay romances that are often based on a guy-meets-guy, guy-loses-guy, guy-gets-back-with-guy schema, Boy Culture has a very complex and multi-faceted narrative that is greatly enhanced by the almost continuous narration of the film.
