When someone writes "Do Not Open" in blood on glass, you know something really messed up happened on the other side of that window, and that's just one of several nightmarish scenarios explored in six new short films set in the Alien universe. Selected from more than 550 pitches in anticipation of the 40th anniversary of Ridley Scott's classic sci-fi horror film, the six short films will be released by 20th Century Fox on IGN over the next several weeks, and we've been provided with a new red band trailer for the short films that serves as a chilling reminder that nearly four decades after the release of Alien, in space, no one can still hear you scream.

The xenomorph is now 40 years old — or at least it would be if Sigourney Weaver hadn’t blasted it out of the airlock. “Alien” is celebrating its 40th anniversary all the same, marking the occasion with a suite of short films that will start screening at fan conventions this week before officially premiering on May 3. You may think that Alien Day — or April 26, as the first entry in the franchise takes place on the fictional planet Lv-426 — would make more sense, but the fat cats at Weyland-Yutani decided otherwise. Watch a trailer for the six shorts below.
And while you’re at it, read the synopses as well:
“Alien: Alone” — Hope, an abandoned crew member aboard the derelict chemical hauler Otranto, has spent a year trying to keep her ship and herself alive as both slowly fall apart. After discovering hidden cargo, she risks it all to power up the...

In anticipation of the 40th anniversary of Ridley Scott's Alien, last year Fox and Tongal opened submissions for original pitches set in the Alien universe. Out of more than 550 pitches, six ideas were turned into official short films, and ahead of their wide release on IGN this March, a trailer for the new short films has now been revealed, showing us that nearly 40 years after the release of the original film, in space, no one can still hear you scream.

I saw the original 9-minute short for “Project Sera” when Benjamin Howdeshell premiered it online in 2012. It’s essentially a zombie short with some cool visuals. Howdeshell has now teamed up with IGN to bring you a six-episode original web-series (about 7-8 minutes each) based on that short, starring the short’s original star, Julia Voth (of “Bitch Slap” fame). I’m not sure where they’re going to go with this series — a planned feature length film, perhaps? That actually wouldn’t be a bad idea. Voth, besides being completely gorgeous, is really, really good in the asskicking role. Check out the first three episodes for the web series “Project Sera” below. New episodes will be released every Wednesday to their YouTube Channel. Project: S.E.R.A. follows Gillian Eames (Julia Voth) and Lt. Riggins (Derek Theler) as they race against the clock to stop the black market sale of a...

Check out this really cool short film called Project: S.E.R.A., which follows the story of a "young woman wakes up in an abandoned warehouse as armed soldiers torture her father with an experimental biological weapon." The short was directed by Ben Howdeshell, and I think it turned out to be pretty awesome! It reminds me a lot of Resident Evil, only better. Hope you like it! ...

Why Watch? Holy shit. This short film from Benjamin Howdeshell is the kind of thing that launches careers. It’s fantastic. The first sequence sells the entire film with a stark, violent visual and a killer sound design to inflate its impact. Then, even when the story flat, it’s because a twist or cool idea is about to slap you in the face. It’s first rate work all around. Yes, zombies have been done to death, but this flick injects the action of a hostage thriller into the mix to create something that focuses on the men in dark suits responsible for the outbreak and less on brain-hungry hordes. That doesn’t mean there’s no neck biting though. There’s definitely some of that, and it’s work that breathes new life into an old corpse. This is a stellar film featuring effects done by the same team that did Wanted, and...

When it comes to making zombies, it always seems so much worse when mindless raving berserkers are created by government tomfoolery. Project: S.E.R.A. doesn't feature zombies in the traditional sense, but this version of the undead monster could be worse.
Written and directed by Benjamin Howdeshell, Project: S.E.R.A. stars Julia Voth (Jill Valentine from the Resident Evil video games, Bitch Slap), Victor Webster (Scorpion King III, Mutant X) and Dennis Keiffer (stunt actor from GI Joe, Superman, Green Hornet) interwoven into some back alley dealings that have a decorated United States general being treated less than regally and eventually zombified.
The film is shot beautifully with some great action and kick-ass F/X work. For more info be sure to "like" Project: S.E.R.A. on Facebook and follow @ProjectSera on Twitter. Check it out!

It’s hard not to think “Resident Evil” when you add gun-toting babe to any zombie movie. The fact that star Julia Voth (one of the three lovely ladies of “Bitch Slap”) looks like one of the gun-happy ladies of the “Resident Evil” movie franchise on the film’s poster sure doesn’t hurt. Or was that the point? (Also, Voth has previously provided the voice of Jill Valentine in the 2002 “Resident Evil” game, so there’s that, too.) But don’t let that stop you from enjoying Ben Howdeshell’s 10-minute short film “Project Sera”, which features one of those fast-moving “infected” zombies that are so popular nowadays. The idea, apparently, is to make the short film, gin up some interest, and turn it into a feature-length movie. A young woman wakes up in an abandoned warehouse as armed soldiers torture her father with an experimental biological weapon. Besides Voth,...

Julia Voth may be one of the best-kept secrets in geekdom today. But after watching the fetching actress play Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil video games and deliver a fun, sexy performance in the recent grindhouse-style free-for-all Bitch Slap, I'd happily pay money just to watch Voth read the phone book. Fortunately, the new short film Project: S.E.R.A. has her doing a lot more than that, and you can watch it now -- right after the jump. Written and directed by Benjamin Howdeshell, Project: S.E.R.A. stars Julia Voth, Victor Webster (Scorpion King III, Mutant X), and Dennis Keiffer (stunt actor in G.I. Joe, Superman, Green Hornet). And it certainly looks as good as most of today's action features. So...
