Exclusive: Burning Man made national headlines last weekend as shocking weather ravaged the desert campout arts festival and sent thousands searching for ways out of the playa.
From Chris Rock and Diplo hitching a ride out with a fan to a slew of Hollywood types and tech bros sludging through the mud after their private planes couldn’t reach them, it was a crazy year for the event, which has been running since 1986.
So, it’s apt that there’s a docuseries – The Man Will Burn – in the works about the event.
Double Agent, a joint venture between Black Bear and New Regency that is behind Asif Kapadia’s next feature film 2073, Noujaim Films, which was behind Egyptian revolution doc The Square, and The Othrs, the production company behind HBO’s The Vow, are behind the series.

The cast of “American Horror Story” Season 11 was officially announced on September 29, several weeks ahead of the October 19 premiere date. This year’s New York City-themed installment features many returning “AHS” actors and also welcomes some first-timers to the FX franchise.
This is the first edition to film entirely in the Big Apple, and the official tagline teases that “mysterious deaths and disappearances ramp up in the city.” Meanwhile, “a doctor makes a frightening discovery, and a local reporter becomes tomorrow’s headline.” Co-creators Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk wrote the season premiere, which was directed by John J. Gray. Scroll through our gallery above (or click here for direct access) to see the “American Horror Story: New York City” cast photos for “AHS: NYC.”

Larry Harvey, the co-founder of the Burning Man arts festival, died Saturday in San Francisco after suffering a massive stroke on April 4. He was 70.
The Burning Man website reported the news.
“We resolutely held out for a miracle,” the statement reads. “If there was anyone tenacious, strong-willed and stubborn enough to come back from this challenge, it was Larry.”
“Larry would be the first to say this isn’t an ending,” it continued, “but the start of a new chapter, and we all have a hand in where we go from here.”
In 1986, Harvey started Burning Man at age 38 alongside his friend Jerry James as a summer solstice ritual at Baker Beach in San Francisco. At the end of the night, the group would burn an effigy of a man. The celebration began to grow over the next four years, eventually reaching 800 attendees, so in 1990, the location was changed to Black Rock Desert.

American Horror Story prides itself on shocking, bloody, horrific tableaus, as characters both beloved and detested meet their makers in due course.
There have been dozens and dozens of deaths throughout the five seasons of the series, and there will surely be plenty more to come in the upcoming American Horror Story Season 6 – regardless of the fact that we don't even know yet what the theme of the new season will be.
We've watched as characters who were considered heroes met shocking and unexpected ends and as villains finally got their satisfying comeuppances. Among the many ends throughout the series, a few characters' deaths stand out as particularly shocking – either because of the way they died, the timing, or the circumstances around their demise.
Here are 17 of the most shocking deaths – so far – throughout American Horror Story's five seasons, before the upcoming sixth season tops them all.

Grover Norquist, the political advocate best known for his anti-tax positions, was a surprising attendee at the annual Burning Man cultural event in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.
Grover Norquist At Burning Man
Norquist’s attendance at Burning Man caught many by surprise, as Burning Man is thought to be an event for more liberal-leaning individuals than the founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform. However, Norquist frequently took to Twitter during the weeklong event to sing its praises and counter the stereotypes associated with Burning Man.

It's hard to believe that Burning Man's early years involved little more than a handful of hippies dancing around a seaside San Francisco bonfire.
Since its humble beginnings in 1986, the festival has swelled into an international phenomenon, drawing more than 60,000 individuals to the remote Nevada desert each August and spawning a subculture that permeates year round.
This collection of photos, provided exclusively to The Huffington Post, reveals a simpler side of The Burn, with founder Larry Harvey and his cohorts setting the scene first on Sf's Baker Beach, and a few years later, in Nevada's pop-up paradise of Black Rock City.
The photos, snapped by Larry's brother Stuart Harvey, are featured in an upcoming film, "Spark: A Burning Man Story," dedicated to the Playa's early beginnings. The documentary hit theaters the weekend, giving contemporary Burners an opportunity to get in touch with their roots before the 2013 celebration begins later this month.

The annual Burning Man event in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert is a bit of a mystery for those of us who exist outside certain artistic circles, and as such a bevy of assumptions have built up regarding what exactly happens there for a week each year. It’s a given for example that there are drugs, sex parties, and s’mores, and it’s a known fact that the event’s final night sees a bee-filled cage placed over an outsider’s head before the unlucky soul is locked in a giant, wooden figure and burned alive. But what else is Burning Man about? Steve Brown and Jessie Deeter set out to answer that question with the new doc Spark: A Burning Man Story, and while it conveniently neglects to comment on the bees it does offer an insight into the event’s history and what it takes to organize a gathering with nearly 60,000 visitors. That...

Production on "American Horror Story: Coven" is fully under way in New Orleans and though we've already seen Jessica Lange, Gabourey Sidibe, Taissa Farmiga, Emma Roberts and Jamie Brewer on set, two more "American Horror Story" alumni have popped up on the set.
Check out Denis O' Hare, who was nominated for an Emmy for his performance as Larry Harvey in Season 1 of "American Horror Story," and Lily Rabe, who played Season 1's Nora Montgomery and the devilish Sister Mary Eunice in Season 2, "Asylum," in costume below.
"American Horror Story" co-creator Ryan Murphy and the show's stars have been notoriously tight-lipped about the upcoming third season, subtitled "Coven." But at the Television Critics Association Summer 2013 press tour last week, Lange, returning "Horror Story" co-star Sarah Paulson and newcomers Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett gathered to give some "Coven" scoop.

'American Horror Story' creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed yet another familiar addition to the cast of the third season of FX's hit horror series. Actor Denis O'Hare is the welcome returning player to 'American Horror Story: Coven' the witchcraft based entry to the series which will no doubt feature a whole host of genre related nods and homage along the way. O'Hare as you'll remember played Larry Harvey the unfortunate burn victim of the unhinged Tate Langdon (played by Evan Peters) in the first season. Peters will also return with a fresh faced role to fill along with Frances Conroy, Taissa Farmiga, Jessica Lange, Lily Rabe and Sarah Paulson. Newcomers Kathy Bates ('Misery'), Gabourey Sidibe, Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts ('Scream 4') and Patti Lupone are also on board....

American Horror Story: Coven is well on its way to being yet another balls-out insane chapter in Ryan Murphy’s anthology series and he’s bringing back some familiar faces we haven’t seen since the first season. We’ve known for months that Taissa Farmiga, who played Violet Harmon both alive and dead back in the fall of 2011, would be making a triumphant return. A good chunk of her co-stars for Coven appeared in Season 1 as well, but they were in Season 2, Asylum, as well. I was thinking it would be nice if they would bring back another cast member who hasn’t been seen since that first season at about the same time Denis O’Hare was announced to be returning.
The news came out over Murphy’s Twitter feed – no surprise there. The creator of American Horror Story would never pass up the chance to announce something to the masses himself.

With incredible turns in "True Blood" and "American Horror Story" Season 1 (for which he received an Emmy nomination), it's a no-brainer that Denis O'Hare would be asked to return to "Ahs" for Season 3, subtitled "Coven."
Showrunner Ryan Murphy broke the news on Twitter that O'Hare, who played poor doomed Larry Harvey during the series' first season but didn't appear in "Ahs: Asylum," joins perennial returnee Evan Peters as the only male actors announced thus far for "Ahs: Coven." With 60,000 tickets that often sell out in under two hours, the allure of Burning Man is indisputable.
But as anyone who follows the festival knows, the playa is not without its controversies. From entry crises to safety concerns to serious questions about law enforcement, Burning Man faces a constant struggle between regulation and the event's free spirited mission.
In their new documentary, "Spark: A Burning Man Story," filmmakers Steve Brown and Jessie Deeter go behind the scenes to explore the inspiration, controversy and gravitational appeal of one of the world's most famous festivals.
The film will celebrate its world premiere next month at Austin's film, music and technology conference, South by Southwest.
"It's a dream come true to be back at SXSW with Spark," said Brown in a press release. "[Burning man founder] Larry Harvey once described his mission in leading Burning Man as creating a place that would give people permission to act on their dreams.

Elsewhere, Aaron Paul won his second Emmy for his supporting performance as Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus won Best Lead Actress in a Comedy for Veep. Modern Family still took the Outstanding Comedy Series, however, while the HBO movie Game Change took the Outstanding Mini-Series or TV Movie. Kevin Costner did manage to pick up some...

Painted bodies, futuristic-looking art projects, and a multitude of dusty bikes have descended on Black Rock City, Nevada for the annual Burning Man festival. Now in its 26th year, this year’s extravaganza of art and music is well underway, leading up to the climax — the burning of an effigy (the “man”) on Saturday night.

Missing nominations, missing shows. Nevertheless, shaking our fists of fury into the air does no good, so let us celebrate those wonderful shows that did receive Emmy nominations. Congratulations to big nomination winners American Horror Story, who received 17, tied for the most of any program, and to Game of Thrones, who received 11.
As expected, our shows received a great number of nominations in the special effects categories, but also showed well in others, including Best Drama. American Horror Story‘s inclusion in the Miniseries categories has proven to be somewhat controversial, but TV Guide quotes TV academy chairman Bruce Rosenblum’s response:
The rules of the academy are pretty clear. If a show qualifies in more than one category that producer is entitled to choose which category they want to submit. The American Horror Story example is unique. The way the show is designed, it’s a very close-ended series this year.

The rules of the academy are pretty clear. If a show qualifies in more than one category that producer is entitled to choose which category they want to submit. The American Horror Story example is unique. The way the show is designed, it’s a very close-ended series this year.

Well, this is a shocker: "American Horror Story" has tied "Mad Men" to lead the nominees for 2012 Emmys with 17 nominations each. It did so in the category of "Miniseries or Movie" rather than "Drama Series", but we'll take it. Zachary Quinto, Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe return in American Horror Story Season 2. Zachary Quinto and Jessica Lange will play their same characters while Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, and Lily Rabe will play new characters on the second season of American Horror Story. These are not the only changes to occur next season. Season 2 of American Horror Story will
shift from the creepy Los Angeles haunted mansion to an East Coast “horror institution,” with SAG and Golden Globe award winner Jessica Lange (who co-starred as the all-knowing nosy next door neighbor Constance) and Zachary Quinto (who recurred as a ghost trapped in the house) previously confirmed to return.
The parts Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe played in the first season of American Horror Story:
Peters co-starred as a mass-murderer-turned-ghost stuck in the house Tate Langdon, while Paulson had a more limited run as medium Billie Dean...

If you liked Jessica Lange in season one of American Horror Story, then you’re going to love what creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have in store for season 2: EW has learned exclusively that the two-time Oscar winner will return to the FX drama this fall.
The actress, who won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award for her work as the hateful, bigoted (and extremely delicious) Constance Langdon, has signed a new deal to stay with the horror franchise. But she won’t reprise her memorable role in the new season, which resumes production in late July for a mid-October return to FX. She’ll play someone entirely new, promises Murphy.

American Horror Story wrapped up its highly rated, Golden Globe-nominated first season on Dec. 21 with one hell of a cliffhanger. But the devilish dramatic flourish on the FX series didn’t happen in the final frames of “Afterbirth,” which unleashed a toddler Antichrist on the world (nannies, beware!) and left each member of the Harmon family – Ben (Dylan McDermott), Vivien (Connie Britton), and daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga) — dead and destined to spend eternity stuck in a haunted house with their one-eyed, two-faced maid (Francis Conroy/Alexandra Breckenridge), a Grunge-era mass murdering teen (Evan Peters), a hideous patchwork of sewn-together baby parts known as The Infantata,...

Honorable Mention: Ben’s magical towel
It wasn’t shocking in the traditional Horror Story sense, but the sticktoitiveness of Ben’s towel during a rough-and-tumble, hand-to-hand brawl with Rubber Man can’t go without a mention.
