As the coronavirus pandemic causes many musicians to turn to the internet, a gallery that showcases iconic images of them is doing the same. The Morrison Hotel Gallery’s first virtual exhibition, Sir: A Retrospective of Rock Royalty, focuses on Elton John.
The exhibit features photos by Ed Caraeff, Norman Parkinson and the late Terry O’Neill, who photographed John for several decades up until his death in 2019.
“There must be 8,000 images of Elton going back to 1971,” says Robin Morgan, CEO of Iconic Images, who manages O’Neill’s estate. “Terry...

Not long before he died in 1984, photographer Milton H. Greene confided to his son, Joshua, that he’d once had a fleeting love affair with Audrey Hepburn.
It was the first Joshua, now 64, had heard of their long ago romance when both were starting out in their careers.
Greene, a legendary photographer known for his striking portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Cary Grant and many stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age, met Hepburn in 1951, when she was just 22 years old and about to make her Broadway debut in Gigi. He became captivated by his subject, and the two were...

After winning her first Emmy a decade ago for HBO miniseries John Adams, costume designer Donna Zakowska is once again reaping the benefits of intricate period work, with Amazon comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
For Amy Sherman-Palladino’s acclaimed series, following an extraordinary housewife turned comedienne, Zakowska sought to capture the sartorial spirit of 1958 New York City. While tracking the fashion of a dynamic, vibrant time in the history of the East Coast cultural hub—designing her principal characters’ clothing from scratch—the costume designer confronted a protagonist in constant motion and visual evolution.
Requiring further thought was the show’s tone and the sometimes-heightened space it occupied, teetering on the edge of “magical reality.” Costuming “a massive amount of people” for Mrs. Maisel, with attention paid to every little detail, Zakowska would find her footing with the series by following her typical artistic inclinations—thinking deeply about color.

Flagship BBC2 arts and culture show loses its weekly status but retains presenters Martha Kearney and Kirsty Wark
For nearly 20 years it has brought BBC2 viewers the latest developments in the world of arts and culture, in various incarnations and featuring bickering panellists including Tom Paulin, Allison Pearson and Tony Parsons.
But now The Review Show, one of the BBC's flagship arts programmes, is to be moved from BBC2 to BBC4 and cut from a weekly to monthly slot – as new director general Lord Hall prepares to join the BBC on 2 April from one of the UK's leading arts institutions, the Royal Opera House.
Arts coverage on BBC1 and BBC2 is being cut as a result of the BBC's £700m cost-cutting measures, Delivering Quality First.
The BBC's arts commissioning editor, Mark Bell, said the reduction in arts coverage was minimal across BBC1 and BBC2, amounting to a "couple of hours" a year.
