Since her debut in 1999’s Daredevil #9, written by David Mack and penciled by Joe Quesada, Echo has gone through many changes. Readers first met Echo as Maya Lopez, an unwitting pawn in the mind games the Kingpin Wilson Fisk played against Matt Murdock. Like Daredevil, Lopez uses her different abilities as a superpower, as her deafness makes her a more attentive observer, resulting in photographic reflexes.
Lopez initially used those abilities to become Echo, a hero with fighting skills on par with Daredevil or Bullseye. Later, she took the name Ronin, a mysterious ninja who fought alongside the Avengers. Most recently, Echo acquired the Phoenix Force and joined the Avengers as Thunderbird.
Next year, Echo makes her most audacious move yet, becoming the main character in a live-action Disney+ series. Played by the Menominee and Mohican actor Alaqua Cox, who is deaf like her character, Echo first emerged in the MCU during Hawkeye season one.

The "Star Trek" movie franchise is in a bit of an odd spot right now, as we haven't had anything on the big screen since 2016's "Star Trek Beyond," which served as the third entry of J.J. Abrams' rebooted iteration. Dubbed the "Kelvin Timeline," these films existed in a new branch reality that Abrams created in 2009's "Star Trek," paving the way for a new incarnation that could honor what came before but pave a new path forward with a new cast. Now, Paramount is keeping things largely relegated to streaming, with shows like "Strange New Worlds" left to anchor the franchise. But there was a time when the studio was looking to exploit the Kelvin Timeline far more aggressively.
As explained in the book "The Fifty-Year Mission" by Mark A. Altman and Edward Gross, after "Star Trek" and before 2013's "Into Darkness," Paramount commissioned a series of in-universe novels.

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for Season 3, Episode 3. Read our review of the episode here.
As the USS Discovery starts to explore the galaxy in Star Trek: Discovery Season 3, the first stop is, understandably, to check-in on how the Planet Earth is doing. Unlike Battlestar Galactica searching for Earth forever, Discovery decided to get the whole Earth thing out of the way right away. In Episode 3, “People of Earth,” the crew returns to the home planet of the Federation and learns things are not remotely similar to how they left it.
Along the way, “People of Earth” references a long-running Tng-Douglas Adams joke, a quip from Kirk in The Wrath of Khan, a famous DS9-era alien species, and more!

Burnham’s opening narration fills in new details we previously didn’t get about the Burn, including the idea that prior to the Burn,...

Debra Messing’s E! interview on the 2018 Golden Globes red carpet is quickly going viral after she used her time to call out the network for paying its male employees more than its women. Messing told E! that she stood by former host Catt Sadler, who announced in December that she was leaving E! after 12 years because she learned that co-host Jason Kennedy was earning double her salary for several years.

“I was so shocked to hear that E! doesn’t believe in paying their female cohost the same as their male cohost,” Messing said. “I miss Catt Sadler. So we stand with her. And that’s something that can change tomorrow. We want people to start having this conversation that women are just as valuable as men.”

The summer of 4001 A.D. is finally upon us! If I am going to be completely honest, I wasn’t as excited for this as I was for other events that they had done in the past. This is because I know very little about the book’s main character Rai. I recently got a crash course about him at Wondercon thanks to a great conversation I had with Dinesh Shamdasani at their booth and later at their panel. What also helped me was the Free Comic Book Day Special issue entitled “Valiant 2016” which includes a prologue to 4001 A.D. giving you a crash course as to what is New Japan, who Rai is and what is his current status. Lucky for me I had a very long week so I actually got to read the special first (which is why this review is so late, sorry life happens). In...

In 2001, Brian Michael Bendis, the writer of Marvel’s probably most kid friendly title Ultimate Spider-Man, was tasked with penning the title that launched Marvel’s mature readers’ imprint, or Max. This was the equivalent of the Vertigo imprint for DC Comics and ended up encompassing many other titles, including Garth Ennis’ critically acclaimed runs on The Punisher and Fury and Rawhide Kid, the first Marvel book to feature a gay lead. He was joined by interior artist Michael Gaydos, who was coming off a short run on the Image Comics incarnation of the cult vigilante The Crow, prolific colorist of dark and gritty comics Matt Hollingsworth (Preacher, Death: The Time of Your Life), and talented cover multimedia artist David Mack (Kabuki). After frantically sprinting from the press to the general admission line and waiting in the queue hall for hours with the help of my Jewel (Jessica Jones’ old superhero identity) cosplaying friend Julia, I had the privilege of attending the Marvel Netflix panel about Daredevil Season 2 and Jessica Jones Season 1, which is set to premiere on November 20. The panel looked back at the first season of Daredevil while showing the first footage of the upcoming second season, and the lucky fans in the audience also had the chance to watch the first episode of Jessica Jones after a discussion with the cast and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg (Dexter).
Before the panel officially started, moderator Jeph Loeb, who is Marvel’s Head of TV, trotted on stage with the Marvel Studios fanfare playing in the background with actors Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, and Mike Colter, who play Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage...

The first crossover of two of Marvel and Netflix's new properties has just taken place, albeit off screen.
ComiXology and Marvel's own digital comic store have released a new and free twelve-page "Jessica Jones" digital comic which sees the down-on-her-luck private eye teaming with the 'Man without Fear' himself Daredevil for the first time.
In the story she comes face to face with Turk, a criminal whom appeared on "Daredevil" who tells her all about the costumed hero trying to clean up Hell's Kitchen. The comic is penned by the same team behind the 2001 "Alias" comic book series in which the character first appeared - namely writer Brian Michael Bendis, drawer Michael Gaydos and cover art illustrator David Mack.
The issue offers the first real chance to see Jones (Krysten Ritter) in action following in the wake of several teaser trailers for the new series which kicks off November 20th on the streaming service.

George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road looks so insane on so many awesome levels. It's easily one of my most anticipated films of the year, and it's going to give audiences one hell of an adrenaline rush punch to the face.
DC Comics' Vertigo has collaborated with Miller on developing a couple of books for fans to enjoy. There is a hardcover book called Mad Max: Fury Road: Inspired Artists, which will feature art by 65 famous artists that were influenced by the world of Mad Max. And there's a prequel comic that will focus on four of the characters from the upcoming film.
Thanks to /Film, we have the cover art from these publications to share with you. The one above and the one directly below are the front and back covers of Mad Max: Fury Road: Inspired Artists. The third is from the comic Mad Max: Fury Road...

Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev’s run on Daredevil is one for the ages. Their run together with the man without fear is a sprawling crime noir epic on the scale of The Godfather saga – minus Godfather Part Three. Plain and simple, their run is a modern masterpiece.
Bendis’s run on Daredevil actually began paired with the magnificent art of David Mack with a couple of unique and very deeply different Daredevil stories. Though the focus here is to be on Bendis and Maleev, it is very difficult not to mention the introduction of Bendis’s voice to Daredevil without David Mack.

Even though Marvel now holds the rights to Star Wars, its biggest licensed comics property, Dark Horse struck back by announcing a several creator owned titles in different genres as well as an expansion to the Mignolaverse and a sequel to one of the most beloved novels of the past century. There has been a lot of talk about a Fight Club sequel, and the novel that David Fincher’s beloved 1999 movie was based on is about to get one…in comic book form! Chuck Palahniuk will release the 10-issue series in 2015 through Dark Horse Comics, and artist Cameron Stewart will join him.
Palahniuk will appear at the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend at a Fight Club panel alongside Fincher, so we’ll likely hear a lot more about the project then. However, the author has already revealed some details, including the fact that it will take place in both the future and the past.
To begin with, it picks up a decade after the ending of the original book, and the protagonist (played by Edward Norton in the movie) is now married to Marla Singer (Helena Bonham Carter) and has a 9-year-old son named Junior. However, the narrator is failing...

Directly contravening the first two rules that he himself came up with, writer Chuck Palahniuk has been talking about carrying on the story of Fight Club next year. "It picks up a decade after the ending of his original book, where the protagonist is married to equally problematic Marla Singer and has a 9-year-old son named Junior, though the narrator is failing his son in the same way his dad failed him."
Speaking to USA Today, Palahniuk said of the book's main character: "Tyler Durden is something that maybe has been around for centuries and is not just this aberration that's popped into his mind."

I secretly desired the Marvel films to continue the tone that was set in the initial Iron Man film. Tony Stark’s war mongering and checkered past lent for a harsh reality of what he was up against. Captain America was created to establish the history of the universe. Marvel Studios went further away from that in the Thor movies to expand the universe’s geography and The Avengers was a thrill ride to see it all come together. But Captain America: The Winter Soldier goes back to the spirit of Iron Man, rooting the story to a world we can envision and feel its textures. Yet given all of the cumulative experience of the previous films, the facts, characters, and events, this film will surpass Iron Man for some, especially how the last 15 minutes changes the course and direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (McU).

This is the time of year when the ComicMix crew starts to firm up our attendance at various comic conventions in the year ahead. It’s a frustrating process because there are a lot of shows and we can’t go to all the ones we’d like to attend.
It also makes me really angry.
Last year was the first in a long time that I went to a bunch of cons. It was fascinating and fun most of the time, but annoying at others. Twenty years after we started Friends of Lulu, there are still remarkably few women invited to be guests at the shows.
This is odd, because there are a lot of women working in the industry, and (capitalists take note) even more buying comics and tickets to cons. Wouldn’t show organizers like to demonstrate to this market segment that they are welcome and valued?...

Willow Rosenberg has long been one of the most cherished, admired, and written about characters in the Buffyverse. She has also gone through enormous changes, growing from the overalls-wearing meek teenage girl, uncomfortable in her own skin and afraid of confrontations, and gradually growing into a powerful magic-using Wicca lesbian (who may have once tried to destroy the world after going evil in a brilliant truly under-appreciated season of television).

Season seven of Dexter comes to a close this weekend, and I am anxious and excited for it. I am way too obsessed with this show, but luckily there is someone who doesn’t mind - or was at least polite enough not to tease me about it: writer Scott Reynolds. Reynolds has been on Dexter since season one and is a self-proclaimed fanboy. We talked at length about the evolution of the series, with special attention paid to the insane developments of the last season and a half.
It has been seven years in the making, but Deb finally knows Dexter’s secret. How did you guys tackle that? It’s such a delicate thing.
Well, in the books - I think at the end of the first book - Deb finds out. Then in the books they are working together - well, not really working together, but she...

I have made no secret of my love for Daredevil. I’ve written articles about him on this site before and even penned out three full-length feature films that fit into a trilogy for the character. And I feel like he’s a popular superhero who really and strangely lacks exposure. So, I’ve compiled a short list in hopes to change that. Here’s 15 reasons why Daredevil is the greatest superhero of all time.
And if you haven’t been reading Mark Waid’s current work, or Brian Michael Bendis and David Mack’s End of Days run, then you’re only hurting yourself.
15. He’s Severely Handicapped
We’ll kill off the obvious, first. When the conception of the character rattled through Stan Lee’s mind in the sixties, the “Walt Disney” of Marvel had a major fear, thinking that audiences would find Matthew Murdock’s handicap offensive.

It’s hard to swallow, but it’s certainly no secret. After killing Peter Parker in his Ultimate Spider-Man run, and recently digging a new grave for Professor X in issue #11 of Avengers vs. X-Men, Brian Michael Bendis has returned to the heart and soul of Daredevil to give him a final send-off reminiscent of arguably one of the greatest films of all time. Accompanied by David Mack, the two authors pen what seems to promise to be an epic, sweeping love letter to one of New York’s famed and prized vigilantes. Told through the eyes of the soon-to-be-defunct Daily Bugle writer Ben Urich, we’re given one last look into Matt Murdock’s life and legacy, before it ends at the hands of Bullseye with all of Hell’s Kitchen watching without a word.
You’ve got to hand it to Bendis, as he’s normally a writer...
