1980s television series Baywatch is getting the reboot treatment at Fox, and here are the details of the new show.
Baywatch is perennialy parodied in mainstream media. Whether it’s the melodramatic scripts or the iconic slow motion running, with the show became a byword for televisual cheese. Perhaps most memorably, it featured as a major plot point in 2006 film Borat, as the title character becomes infatuated with Pamela Anderson. It also formed part of 2019 Disney+ drama Pam And Tommy, which saw Lily James play Anderson as she deals with sexism on the Baywatch set
Nevertheless, the show was and remains hugely popular, launching the global careers of Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff. It followed a group of lifeguards as they patrol the beaches of LA County, and was sold right around the globe.
It ran in its initial form for 241 episodes over eleven seasons from 1989 to 2001, with a spin-off,...

After dipping into the world of H.P. Lovecraft in Re-Animator (listen) and checking out an early adaptation of The Portrait of Dorian Gray (listen), somehow we’re already on our third episode of February. And while the holiday doesn’t line up, we couldn’t pass up a chance to revisit Friday the 13th (2009) for its fifteenth anniversary.
In the Marcus Nispel remake, a group of friends travel to the palatial country house of Trent (Travis Van Winkle) near what was once Camp Crystal Lake. As Trent’s girlfriend Jenna (Danielle Panabaker) bonds with Clay (Jared Padalecki) over the disappearance of his sister Whitney (Amanda Righetti), their friends Chewie (Aaron Yoo), Bree (Julianna Guill), Lawrence (Arlen Escarpeta), Nolan (Ryan Hansen) and Chelsea (Willa Ford) are being picked off one by one by Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears).

A new episode of the Real Slashers video series has just been released, and with this one we’re looking back at a movie that gave us two iconic slashers for the price of one: the 2003 monster mash Freddy vs. Jason (watch it Here)! Somehow it’s been over twenty years since that long-awaited match-up reached theatres screens, and you can hear all about what happened when Freddy Krueger crossed paths with Jason Voorhees in the video embedded above.
Directed by Ronny Yu (who previously worked with another iconic slasher on Bride of Chucky) from a screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark J. Swift (with an uncredited polish by David S. Goyer), Freddy vs. Jason has the following synopsis: Get ready for the ultimate showdown! It’s been nearly ten years since Freddy, from the Nightmare on Elm Street series, invaded people’s dreams to exact his deadly form of revenge and murder.

Back in 2007, it was rumored that Sam Raimi would be producing a fantasy film with a screenplay written by Freddy vs. Jason and Friday the 13th 2009 writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. That didn’t pan out, but a decade later Raimi considered directing a Bermuda Triangle project that once had Shannon and Swift working on the script. Again, that didn’t pan out, with Scott Derrickson and more recently Marc Webb picking up the project after Raimi dropped it. In 2019, it was announced that Raimi would be directing an untitled island horror thriller for Columbia Pictures, working from a script by Shannon and Swift. Then the pandemic hit and Raimi went on to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness… but after spending some time in the Marvel universe, the Evil Dead creator has circled back to horror. Film scooper Daniel Richtman has revealed that the “untitled island...

Last Friday, which happened to be a Friday the 13th, screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift shared some pages from the script they wrote for the unmade sequel to the 2009 version of Friday the 13th (watch it Here). In those pages, we got to read the description of a scene where a character would have been killed by iconic masked slasher Jason Voorhees while riding down a zip line. But those weren’t the only pages Shannon and Swift shared from the script last Friday. They also unveiled a couple pages that reveal what happened to Jason’s dad – and you can read them in this embed:
Ok, since it's #FridayThe13th how about one more? Our sequel script had lots of stuff for long time fans, including returning characters! Let's reveal two of them now: https://t.co/WhNTVuo2Nx pic.twitter.com/yUdnv2L6bL

Earlier today, Friday the 13th remake writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift revealed a gory kill that would’ve been featured in the film’s sequel, and they’re ending the day with two more script pages from the unmade movie. And these two pages are quite special.
The film was set to be a direct sequel to the ’09 remake, and the script pages shared tonight let us know that a flashback sequence would’ve brought Pamela Voorhees back to the screen.
And not just Pamela but also Elias Voorhees, Jason’s father!
In the flashback sequence that’ll likely never see the light of day, Pamela Voorhees goes to extreme lengths to protect her young son Jason. We already know she’s not above killing to avenge or protect her son, but in this scene we see her brutally murder her own husband.
Bring Jason Voorhees to your neighborhood this October.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift were the writers who cracked the Freddy vs. Jason story and pulled that project out of development hell, where it had been trapped for a decade. Six years later, when Warner Bros. teamed up with Paramount and Platinum Dunes for a Friday the 13th reboot, Shannon and Swift were again the writers. (You can hear all about that Friday the 13th in our latest Wtf Happened video.) Since the reboot made over $91 million at the global box office on a budget of $19 million when it was released in February of 2009, it was no surprise when it was announced that it was going to receive a sequel, to be shot in 3-D and released on August 13, 2010. Then the studios couldn’t agree on the money split, so the sequel was shelved… but not before Shannon and Swift had already written the full script. Today, to celebrate Friday the 13th,...

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, the writers of the 2009 version of Friday the 13th, have been sprinkling out details about the remake’s unmade sequel over the years, and today they’re celebrating Friday the 13th with a full kill scene from the script. But first, a little recap.
From what we’ve gathered, the film was set to be a direct sequel to the 2009 remake, but centered on new characters rather than continuing Whitney and Clay’s story. The plan was for the film to be set during the Winter, and its title was The Death of Jason Voorhees.
The writers note, “The script had an extended opening sequence again, this time in winter, then the rest of the movie is the reopening of the summer camp.”
Today isn’t the first time Shannon and Swift have shared pages from the script they wrote, as back in 2017 they tweeted...

It's finally over. After 148 days, the Writers Guild of America has officially announced that the strike that has brought Hollywood to a halt for months is ending. After news broke earlier this week that the WGA had finally reached a tentative deal with the studios and streaming services over a new contract, the organization has announced via a press release that they have voted to end the strike. That will go into effect at 12:01 am Pt on Wednesday, September 27.
As of this writing, tomorrow the writers can finally get pencils to paper once again. The WGA announced that it has formally reached a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on a new three-year deal. Both wings of the WGA will vote to ratify the contract in October. Eligible members will be able to vote to ratify the deal from October 2 to October 9. The...

Slasher films are known for their one-liners, both the badass and the embarrassing. Dr. Loomis in the "Halloween" series, Freddy Krueger in the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" series, Ghostface in the numerous "Scream" flicks, Pinhead in the "Hellraiser" films, and just about everything Chucky has ever said throughout his franchise have all birthed quotes as memorable as the characters who say them. In the delightfully silly "Freddy vs Jason," one of the most infamous lines is not spoken by either slasher icon or even the film's final girl, but by the secondary character Kia, played by Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child.
When Kia comes face to face with Freddy Krueger, she doesn't cower in fear -- she mocks him. Freddy Krueger thrives on fear, and by choosing to humiliate him instead, she defangs him quite a bit. She spends much of the movie being mouthy to everyone anyway, so...

Ronnie Yu's 2003 film "Freddy vs. Jason" -- simultaneously the eighth film in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series and the eleventh film in the "Friday the 13th" series -- finally brought together two of the most popular characters of the 1980s slasher boom and had them wail on each other in a series of supernatural monster fights. Most slasher fans would have appreciated a "Freddy vs. Jason" film about a decade earlier, but there was still magic in the air in 2003; Yu's film made over $116 million on a $30 million budget.
It also, in a very utilitarian way, gave audiences exactly what they wanted. There was a decent-enough retinue of teenage victims to slaughter (led by actress Monica Keena). The story hung together juuuust well enough. And the final fights between Freddy (Robert Englund) and Jason (Ken Kirzinger) addressed any late-night, heavily intoxicated concerns horror fanboys might have posited.

In 1984, Jason Voorhees (Ted White) finally met his end in Joseph Zito's "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter." He was finally dead. In 1991, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) finally met his end in Rachel Talalay's "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare." He was finally dead. In 1993, Jason Voorhees met his end again in Adam Marcus' "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday." He was finally dead again. In 1994, Freddy Krueger finally met his end again in "Wes Craven's New Nightmare." He was finally dead again.

‘Freddy vs. Jason’ 20 Years Later – The Ultimate Horror Battle Still Satisfies After All These Years
I was somewhat of a late bloomer when it came to my exposure to horror. I lacked the cool older relative or friend that seems to serve as a customary gateway for many genre fans. I had seen a few horror movies growing up (Child’s Play and Scream each terrified me at different points in my youth), but seeing Freddy vs. Jason at the tender age of 15 is single-handedly responsible for the horror fandom that has consumed my life ever since. Without the movie — which hit theaters 20 years ago today — I very likely wouldn’t be writing for Bloody Disgusting now.
I knew of Freddy and Jason through pop culture osmosis, but I hadn’t seen any of the combined 17 films that comprised the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises when Freddy vs. Jason piqued my interest. Even with the advent of Netflix’s DVDs by mail,...

It took 19 years for Freddy Krueger from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and Jason Voorhees from "Friday the 13th" to finally clash on the big screen. And let's face it: the two horror titans, the definitive monsters of '80s cinema, were always destined to duke it out. The fans demanded it, and the studios involved knew it would make bank. The perfect storm. It was just a matter of when. But this guaranteed success suffered in development hell throughout the '90s as writers and directors came and went, a rotating door of noteworthy (and not-so-noteworthy) talent that tried to crack the indelible premise of these two iconic characters battling to the death and transform it into an actual, workable movie.
And after so many folks tried and failed, writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift finally cracked the code, and director Ronny Yu translated it to the screen. And...

At the end of 1993’s Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, horror fans saw the sight of Friday the 13th slasher Jason Voorhees’ hockey mask lying in the dirt, after its wearer had been vanquished. It seemed as though the story of this villain had finally come to the end. At least until A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger’s blade-gloved hand popped out of the dirt and dragged the mask to Hell.
The scene seemed to tease an oncoming battle between Krueger and Voorhees, which fans had wanted. Horror geeks had debated who would win in such a fight, but for a very long time, it seemed like it would only exist in people’s fantasies and never in an actual movie. Until, of course, Ronny Yu’s Freddy vs. Jason came to fruition.

Way back in 2006, it was announced that Frank Coraci (The Wedding Singer) had signed on to direct an adaptation of the supernatural private eye thriller comic book Hawaiian Dick, working from a script by Freddy vs. Jason writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. There was talk about Johnny Knoxville starring in the film and Patrick Wilson was approached about joining the cast, but the project never made it into production. Years have passed, but obviously something about the concept of Hawaiian Dick really stuck with Wilson, because in a recent interview he revealed that he would like to direct a Hawaiian Dick adaptation himself!
Wilson is currently doing the press rounds for his feature directorial debut Insidious: The Red Door, which is set to reach theatres on July 7th. While he was speaking with ComicBook.com, he was asked if there’s a comic book adaptation he’d be interested in directing.

Up until the new millennium, cinematic crossovers were largely the preserve of Abbott and Costello or Godzilla. But that all changed in 2003 with the arrival of Freddy Vs. Jason. The Nightmare on Elm Street/Friday the 13th mashup had been 16 agonizing years in the making. New Line Cinema shelled out a reported $6 million on script development alone with as many as 16 different writers taking a stab at the concept.
Despite such inauspicious beginnings, however, Freddy Vs. Jason ended up being a massive hit, raking in $116.6 million off the back of a modest $30m budget. All of a sudden, crossover movies were in vogue. The kind of pop culture hybridization once reserved for the world of comic books was becoming big business in Hollywood. Freddy Vs. Jason was soon followed by Paul W.S. Anderson’s Alien vs. Predator which also cleaned up at box office making $177.4m off an initial $60m outlay.

Tyrion Lannister and Khal Drogo are teaming up in a new action film. Well, Peter Dinklage and Jason Momoa are not playing their “Game of Thrones” counterparts in the new project, though it would be fun. This time, instead of hanging out with the Mother of Dragons, the duo is going to play a vampire hunter and vampire, respectively, in the film “Good Bad & Undead.”

Jason Momoa and Peter Dinklage never got the opportunity to share the screen on Game of Thrones, something that would have delighted fans to no end, but this might be the next best thing. From opposite sides of the fence, with Momoa playing DC’s Aquaman (for now) and Dinklage showing up in Infinity War, the two are coming together for the first time in upcoming action-horror flick Good Bad & Undead.
Vampire movies just never seem to die, though the plot of this one does seem to be a fresh take on a tired pop culture icon. Peter Dinklage and Jason Momoa are officially reuniting. On Wednesday, Deadline reported that the Game of Thrones alums are set to produce and star in the upcoming vampire action drama Good, Bad & Undead.
Dinklage will star as Van Helsing, who's the last in a long line of vampire hunters. Things get really interesting when he strikes up an unlikely friendship with a vampire (Momoa) who's vowed to never kill a human ever again. "Together, they run a scam from town to town, where Van Helsing pretends to vanquish the vampire for money," says Deadline. "But when a massive bounty is put on the vampire's head, everything in this dangerous world full of monsters and magic is now after them."
The film is based on the original idea by screenwriters Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, who previously wrote Friday the 13th and Baywatch together (among others). Good, Bad & Undead will be directed by Max Barbakow who,...

Peter Dinklage and Jason Momoa, the smartest and the strongest characters on Game of Thrones, respectively, are teaming up for something which will probably be sillier, weaker, and more fun than a dozen Red Weddings: a vampire buddy movie. Peter Dinklage and Jason Momoa never shared the screen on “Game of Thrones,” but the two will star together in Legendary’s upcoming dark fantasy film “Good Bad & Undead,” individuals with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.
The film will be directed by Max Barbakow in his follow-up to “Palm Springs,” a film that set a new Sundance bidding record in January when it was purchased for $22 million and 69 cents. “Good Bad & Undead” stars Dinklage as famed vampire hunter Van Helsing as he forms an unlikely partnership with a vampire played by Momoa who has vowed to never kill again. In a con job reminiscent of “Dragonheart,” the two travel from town to town staging vampire attacks and splitting the riches when Helsing is hired to “slay” the vampire. It’s now been more than a decade since Jason Voorhees was last unleashed upon the moviegoing masses.
Back in 2009, director Marcus Nispel, along with screenwriters Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, delivered a fresh reboot of Friday the 13th, the age-old horror classic in which a masked serial killer stalks Camp Crystal Lake.
All in all, it was a pretty entertaining reimagining of the legendary tale, one which even convinced the Powers That Be to move ahead with a direct sequel – that is, until said sequel lost any sense of momentum, and was sentenced to life in development hell. Weeks became months, months became years, and Platinum Dunes and Paramount’s pic was ultimately canned in 2015. But had things panned out differently, it would’ve featured the “f*cking terrifying” Pamela Voorhees.
That’s according to Swift and Shannon, who posted the following piece of intel via Twitter:
We talked about it.

Whenever Friday the 13th rolls around, there’s only one proper thing to do, and that’s to watch and talk about Friday the 13th. And yes, I’m aware I’m writing this on the Saturday, but the point still stands.
Amongst yesterday’s conversation surrounding the exploits of Crystal Lake’s most notorious hockey enthusiast were some details about the planned sequel to the 2009 reboot that never materialized, released by script writing duo Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.
We talked about it. Ultimately that idea was left behind… because we wanted it for the sequel! Yes, here for the first time ever, can confirm that we had extended flashbacks in the unmade winter sequel with Pamela and Elias. Oh and Pamela was the fucking terrifying one…

2003’s Freddy vs. Jason remains a fan favorite for pitting two iconic horror characters together in a battle for supremacy, albeit with an open-ended conclusion. Although we’re also hearing that a reboot of the movie might be on the cards, it seems that the original writers of Freddy vs. Jason are keen to develop a sequel. The question of how a follow-up film could work came up in a Twitter Q&a with Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, and it appears that they’re still actively trying to make it happen.
In particular, Shannon and Swift were asked about an alternate ending to their screenplay where Pinhead from Hellraiser stepped in to the fight between Freddy and Jason. The writers had this to say: “Not gonna tell you as we still want to get it made!”, before going on to comment that:
“We would always love to do another one.

Scott Derrickson has signed on to direct the upcoming thriller Bermuda for Skydance with Captain America actor Chris Evans in talks to star, according to Variety.
The film has been in development at Skydance since 2013. No other studio is currently attached, though Skydance has a distribution and finance deal with Paramount. Derrickson will rewrite the script with C. Robert Cargill, his collaborator on the first Doctor Strange film, which came out in 2016. The film earned $677.7 million worldwide and brought Benedict Cumberbatch into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The most recent draft of the Bermuda screenplay was written by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift are also writing a draft of the script.
The project marks Derrickson’s first film since he walked away from the sequel to 2016 Marvel film Doctor Strange in January over creative differences. Sam Raimi, who directed the Spider-Man trilogy of the 2000s, is...

It’s been a decade since Sam Raimi last helmed a horror movie with the delightful Drag Me to Hell, and six years since his last film, the unfortunately forgettable Disney tentpole Oz the Great and Powerful. Since then, he’s been mostly giving a hand to up-and-coming directors, producing an Evil Dead remake (and TV series), Don’t Breathe, Crawl, and more. After being attached to a number of projects, it looks like one is finally moving forward that will see him back in the director’s chair.
THR reports he’s set to direct a new horror film scripted by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon (the duo behind the reboots of Friday the 13th and Baywatch) which has been described as “Misery meets Cast Away.” While no other details have been unveiled Raimi said, “I have been a fan of Shannon and Swift and we have found the...

Though Sam Raimi has garnered much acclaim by directing pictures such as those making up the initial Spider-Man trilogy, none of us can forget how the horror genre is where he first made a name for himself. After all, the Evil Dead flicks will forever remain cult favorites, and I know how some of you reading this would give your chainsaw-bearing arm for another entry.
That said, we have some good news for you today. Unfortunately, it’s not Evil Dead-related, but there’s been confirmation on Raimi making his triumphant return to the realm of horror. For those keeping track, this is his first such project since 2009’s Drag Me to Hell.
As of right now, not too many specifics have been given, but it’s been revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that this currently untitled movie will see Raimi directing a script penned by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon.

Columbia Pictures has acquired an untitled horror project that will be produced and directed by Sam Raimi, whose helming credits include genre staples The Evil Dead and Drag Me to Hell.
Details are slim on the script, which will be written by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, but it will be a thriller set on an island. The writers previously penned 2009’s Friday the 13th reboot, and have been working on Agbo Films’ A Christmas Carol and Legendary’s The Good, the Evil & the Undead.
The latest news marks a reteam for Raimi and Columbia, which released the director’s three Spider-Man movies in the 2000s with Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. Raimi of late has been focused on producing via his Raimi Productions; his last directing credit is 2013’s Oz the Great and Powerful.

Sam Raimi is returning to the horror genre with an untitled project he’s set to direct at Columbia Pictures, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, whom Raimi collaborated with on a separate, still-in-development project about the Bermuda Triangle, are writing the film based on their original idea.

Whether you see it as a brilliantly subversive satire of jingoistic propaganda or just a fun, goofy little flick about killer space bugs, 1997’s Starship Troopers continues to hold a special place in the hearts of many a sci-fi fan. You can therefore imagine that writer Ed Neumeier will pique the curiosity a lot of people with his claim that we could be seeing the first film’s cast make a comeback for a new TV series.
As well as penning the script for Paul Verhoeven’s interplanetary actioner, Neumeier also worked on the property’s two live-action sequels, and also as the 2017 animated film Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars. Now it seems that he has his sights set on a TV show, and when Hn Entertainment asked him if he’d be interested in bringing back the old cast, the scribe said that the team is already discussing the idea:

Long before any sort of justice had ever dawned, Freddy vs. Jason debuted in cinemas as what may be remembered as the first notable crossover between two major horror franchises. Since then, we’ve received a couple Alien vs. Predator movies, the second of which performed so poorly that Fox split them back into their own separate entities, and to a much, much lesser extent, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.
So, while it remains doubtful that any sort of sequel will happen outside of the comic book realm (one adding to Ash of Evil Dead fame to the mix nearly made its way to the big screen), we’ll continue going on interesting bits of trivia to preserve the memory of this mashup.
On that note, we’re pleased to be able to bring you a previously unseen photo showing Robert Englund, Freddy Krueger himself, catching a breath in between takes.

Script pages posted by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift have revealed that the canned Friday the 13th sequel was going to be set in the winter, a first for the legendary horror franchise.
This being Friday the 13th, Shannon and Swift decided to strike while the iron is hot to post four pages from the scrapped script, confirming that Paramount’s axed reboot, one that was initially hatched as a continuation of the 2009 remake, would have taken place in the winter season, when Camp Crystal Lake was frozen solid. Now how’s that for a haunting visual?
Other pertinent details include a scene in which Jason Voorhees ventures out onto the frozen Crystal Lake while hunting a rather unfortunate hockey player, which was surely meant to be the first of many blood-curdling kills involving the iconic, masked killer. Even though we have an overabundance of them these days, the fact of the matter is that remakes are nothing new in Hollywood and have been around for nearly as long as the film industry itself. Still, there’s no denying how much they’ve been flooding the market as of late, with the horror genre not being exempt from this practice. Quite frankly, I think it’s this genre that we have to thank for the current trend, but that’s a discussion for another day.
With Friday the 13th being one of the most popular horror franchises in cinematic history, it comes as no surprise that it hasn’t been an exception to the rule. In addition to being remade back in 2009, yet another restart was planned not long ago, but that’s since been derailed. And more unfortunate is that the entire franchise currently remains in limbo due to a legal battle.

Chicago – Going to the beach is simultaneously an exciting and disgusting experience. Swimming in the cool water that thousands have gone inside in the past, with more than a few leaving bodily fluid deposits, is the perfect way to describe “Baywatch”. No amount of beefy biceps or shirt-busting breasts could have given “Baywatch” the buoyancy needed to keep from sinking, let alone stay afloat.
