John Mulaney Presents Everybody’s in L.A. proved to be very much a late-night styled talk show in its live premiere Friday night on Netflix. Now like any good late night show, the six-episode miniseries is revealing its lineup for the coming week—and, as promised, it’s a doozy.
Leading things off tonight (and explaining this week’s Daily Show scheduling switcheroo) is none other than Jon Stewart. Stewart, like most of Mulaney’s guests this week, is in Los Angeles for the Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival. He performed over the weekend at L.A.’s Greek Theatre.
Other guests sitting down with Mulaney later in the week include Nate Bargatze, Sarah Silverman, David Letterman, Bill Hader, Rony Chieng, and Hannah Gadsby.
Each night also features a musical performace, with Warren G kicking things off tonight, followed by Joyce Manor, Weezer, Los Lobos, and Beck.

Elvis Presley‘s “Don’t Cry Daddy” was written by a country musician who wrote songs for numerous other stars. The country musician in question wasn’t a big fan of the track at first. “Don’t Cry Daddy” went on to become a hit and it appeared on one of the “Don’t Be Cruel” singer’s most important records.
Elvis Presley’s ‘Don’t Cry Daddy’ was ‘just another day in the life’ of its songwriter
Mac Davis was a country star who also wrote tunes for other artists, including Weezer, Bruno Mars, Avicii, and Dolly Parton. The three most famous songs he wrote for Elvis were “In the Ghetto,” “A Little Less Conversation” (which only became famous decades after its release), and “Don’t Cry Daddy.” The latter was one of the most successful ballads of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll‘s comeback era. “Don’t Cry Daddy” typifies the sentimental,...

While “A Little Less Conversation” is one of Elvis’ most famous songs today, it was meant for another singer. Notably, the tune became a hit in the 1960s and again in the 2000s.
Elvis Presley’s ‘A Little Less Conversation’ was written for a musical
“A Little Less Conversation” was written by Mac Davis. He was a country singer who had several hits. In addition, he wrote tunes for artists such as Elvis, Weezer, Avicii, Kenny Rogers, and Bruno Mars. During a 2010 interview with Smashing Interviews Magazine, Davis discussed writing “A Little Less Conversation” for Elvis’ musical Live a Little, Love a Little.

The concept itself is ridiculous and silly and tends to aim more toward family-friendly fare like Freaky Friday and 13 Going On 30. Still, even those movies benefitted from some personality and edge that helped them earn some originality, a quality sorely lacking in Netflix’s new Christmas-themed comedy Family Switch. Things turned sour for The Pickle on The Masked Singer after he sang the Weezer hit “Beverly Hills” on Wednesday night’s episode. Turns out it was actor-comedian Michael Rapaport, who was eliminated and unmasked at the end of the show.
While Rapaport’s rap-sung verses on “Beverly Hills” were fine, he didn’t show much range on the anthemic chorus — although he gets some humor points for replacing the “gimme, gimme” line with “pickle, pickle.”
Sadly for Rapaport, The Pickle didn’t make the cut. After he took off his mask, the True Romance actor went into an amusing profanity-laced tirade against the judges, calling Ken Jeong a “fake-ass doctor,” and telling Nicole Scherzinger, “Don’t suck up to me now!” But all kidding aside, he said he had a “great time” and insisted, “I love the show.”
Prior to the reveal, none of the judges guessed correctly. Scherzinger...

Neil Diamond is a songwriting juggernaut. For example, he wrote a few of The Monkees‘ songs. A pair of those tunes became massive hits.
The Monkees | Michael Ochs Archives / Stringer 4. ‘I’m a Believer’
While The Monkees gave the world many great songs, “I’m a Believer” is possibly their most famous track. It’s appeared in films like Shrek and Lady Gaga’s House of Gucci. It’s been covered by Smash Mouth, Weezer, MonaLisa Twins, and Robert Wyatt. The tune is fantastic, and decades of shifting musical trends haven’t changed that.
According to The Billboard Book of Number 1 Hits, The Monkees’ manager, Don Kirshner, wanted a follow-up to “Last Train to Clarksville” that would sell even more copies. He called his friend Jeff Barry looking for a new song for the Prefab Four. Barry gave him “I’m a Believer,” which he was working on with the then-upcoming Diamond.

Weezer brought the Detroit Youth Choir to “Beverly Hills” for one of the most unlikely, yet seamless collaborations imaginable on America’s Got Talent.
The California quartet, now to forever be known as “The Incredible Weezer” thanks to host Terry Crews, kicked off the primetime appearance with the Sznz cut “What Happens After You,” then transitioned into “Beverly Hills” as the choir entered with a nice couplet capped with “Weezer, go ahead and do your thing.”
Frontman Rivers Cuomo later said the new gospel arrangement was “great” and made it “super fun to play this old song again.” Oof, thanks for the reminder, Rivers.
At one point, even the typically critical Simon Cowell seemed to show his approval with a slight nod after fellow judge Howie Mandel exclaimed, “I love this song!” Cowell also called it “absolutely brilliant” and “magic” before thanking the group for sharing the stage with the young contestants.

Jason Bateman is partnering with Warner Bros. and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot for The Pinkerton. No, this isn’t a making-of-documentary about Weezer’s 1996 sophomore album. The project is an original feature about Pinkertons, which Bloomberg says is a private security guard and detective agency founded around 1850 in the United States by Scottish-born flatfoot Allan Pinkerton and Chicago attorney Edward Rucker. Initially known as the North-Western Police Agency, the outfit became Pinkerton & Co., then the Pinkerton National Detective Agency.
The Pinkerton is the first project from a deal between Bad Robot and Warner Bros. In addition to directing the film, Bateman is executive producing with Michael Costigan. Abrams and Hannah Minghella also produce through Bad Robot.
According to Pinkerton, the group saved president-elect Abraham Lincoln from an assassination attempt before the famous leader of the United States took office. Thankful for the save, Lincoln hired the Pinkertons as his security guards during his presidency.

Weezer dropped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Thursday to perform "King of the World," a track off their just-released self-titled LP dubbed "The White Album." In what could be an early April Fools' Day gag, singer Rivers Cuomo performed the track in an extravagant Elvis Presley costume, from the white jumpsuit right up to the coif-and-sideburns wig; however, Cuomo opted for his own thick-rimmed glasses as opposed to something more befitting of the King.

Weezer churned out two recent singles, the endearingly goofy "Do You Wanna Get High?" and "Thank God for Girls," Tuesday on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Both tracks will feature on the veteran alt-rock quartet's 10th studio album – another color-coded, self-titled LP destined to be known as "The White Album."
"Get High?" finds Rivers Cuomo reminiscing about recreational drugs over a sludgy power-pop riff, highlighted by a psychedelic wah-wah guitar solo around the two-minute mark. Like its studio counterpart, the "Girls" performance is built on descending, distorted riffs and Cuomo's quasi-raps.

Last week, in the wake of Eddie Huang's complaints that he felt ABC's "Fresh Off the Boat" was distorting and softening his childhood experiences, this column examined how hard it is for any biographical or autobiographical sitcom to be true to the life of its source and still be a crowd-pleasing primetime network entertainment. You'd think, after decades of trying, TV writers and network programming executives would be aware of this.
Nonetheless, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the networks have no fewer than ten such sitcom pilots in production, as the first episodes of potential 2015-16 primetime series. Fox ordered a pilot for a single-camera comedy today that will be loosely based on the real-life back-to-college experiences of Weezer's lead singer, Rivers Cuomo. Psych creator Steve Franks will write the show, called DeTour, and Cuomo will serve as one of the executive producers. Between 1995 and 2006, Cuomo intermittently attended Harvard, where he majored in English and nabbed a spot in Phi Beta Kappa. Fox's project will similarly follow a middle-aged rock star who takes a hiatus from his band to return to college — probably with some raucous embellishments here and there.
