Terry Loane will direct Brosnan in “The Last Rifleman” as Artie Crawford, a veteran living in an assisted living home in Northern Ireland who on the 75th anniversary of D-Day escapes from his home and travels to the beaches of Normandy in France to pay his final respects.
The film’s story, written by Kevin Fitzpatrick, is inspired by Bernard Jordan, who at 89 years old did much the same thing on the 70th anniversary of D-Day in June 2014 when he snuck out of his care home in East Sussex and boarded a ferry to France and Normandy.
Principal photography will begin this winter in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Carnaby International has added drama “Highway,” to its Cannes slate, the international sales company announced Wednesday.
The film, which marks the sophomore feature of Irish writer-director Alexandra McGuinness, stars “Baby Driver” actress Eiza Gonzalez (pictured) and Lucy Fry, who starred in the first season of Stan original series “Wolf Creek.”
Fry and Gonzalez star as best friends living in a small desert town. While Heidi (Fry) is happy to dream her life away while working shifts at a local diner, Jane (Gonzalez) strives for a better life. The 28th Galway Film Fleadh handed out its annual awards last night (July 10) and named Taika Waititi’s Hunt For The Wilderpeople as best international feature.
The ceremony took place after the Fleadh’s annual public interview, in which director Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father) regaled a packed Town Hall Theatre.
The prize for best Irish feature was shared between Peter Foott’s The Young Offenders and Darren Thornton’s A Date For Mad Mary. The latter was co-produced by Ed Guiney, whose films include Oscar-winner Room, The Lobster and Frank.

Coming-of-age film marks feature debut of Downton Abbey director Philip John.
Principal photography has begun on Moon Dogs, a UK-Irish co-production that will film throughout Scotland over the summer.
Up Helly Aa Films and Ripple World Pictures produce the coming-of-age feature, which follows two teenage stepbrothers - Michael (Jack Parry Jones) and Thor (Christy O’Donnell) - on a road trip from Shetland to Glasgow, and the enigmatic Caitlin (Tara Lee) who comes between them.
Directed by Philip John (Being Human, Downton Abbey), the film was written by Scottish writing duo Raymond Friel and Derek Boyle (The Calcium Kid).
The soundtrack will be composed by Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

According to Screen Daily, Headey ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", "Game of Thrones") will play the lead in Gary Sinyor’s new thriller The Unseen from Ripple World Pictures and Magnet Films. Headey will portray a grieving mother who starts to suffer attacks of blindness.
David Frost and Michael Rosenberg are executive producers on the thriller, which will shoot in late spring in the Balearic Islands, just off the coast of Spain. Dominic Wright is producing alongside Jacqueline Kerrin, and both will attend the upcoming Efm to finalize funding.

'Parked', the directorial debut from Irish director Darragh Byrne (Starstruck, The Suicide Club) starring Colm Meaney (The Perfect Stranger, Whole Lot of Sole) and Colin Morgan (Merlin) has won the top prize at the Mannheim-Heidelberg film festival, a festival dedicated to up and coming new directors. The award was collected by producer Dominic Wright and Colin Morgan at the festival on Sunday night.

Irish production company Ripple World Pictures began shooting this week in Wales on the British psychological thriller 'Retreat' starring Cillian Murphy (Inception, Perrier's Bounty, The Dark Knight), Thandie Newton (2012, RocknRolla, Crash) and Jamie Bell (Defiance, Jumper, Billy Elliot) in co-production with the UK's Magnet Films. 'Retreat' is the debut feature of British director Carl Tibbetts who co-wrote the screenplay with Janice Hallett. Gary Sinyor (Leon the Pig Farmer) of Magnet Films is producing the feature with Dominic Wright (Lapland Odyssey) and Jacqueline Kerrin (Parked) of Ripple Exec Producing alongside David Frost and Michael Rosenberg (In Your Dreams) also of Magnet Films. Sony Entertainment have UK, Irish and German rights. Quickfire Films and Sc Films are handling international sales.

The 35th Toronto International Film Festival is upon us once again. The browning of leaves and shortening of evenings heralds the start of the annual event which this year takes place between Thursday, September 9th and Friday the 19th. In the run up to the 2010 festival we spoke with the Irish filmmakers behind the five projects chosen to screen at the event including 'As If I'm Not There's' director Juanita Wilson; 'Sensation's producer Katie Holly; 'Essential Killing's producer Andrew Lowe; 'Lapland Odyssey's producer Dominic Wright and 'The Pipe's director Risteard O'Domhnaill. Following on from last year's success there will be a strong Irish presence at Toronto again this year. Last year saw seven projects from Irish filmmakers screening at the event and this year Ireland will be represented by five features.

Principal Photography will get underway in Lapland on Monday, November 16th, on 'Lapland Odyssey', a co-production between Ireland's Ripple World Pictures, Finland's Helsinki Filmi Oy and Sweden's Anagram Produktion company. Lapland Odyssey is a comedic and romantic road movie that moves through Lapland and seeks to explore the soul of the Finnish man. The €2 million feature film is written by Pekko Pensonen (Over the Fence). The Irish co-producers involved are Dominic Wright (The Daisy Chain) and Jacqueline Kerrin (Our Wonderful Home) and the director of the project is Dome Karukoski (Forbidden Fruit). The post production for the project will be carried out in Dublin's Egg.
