In the 1970s, Hammer joined forces with Shaw Brothers Studios, to try and inject fresh blood into the former's Dracula franchise...
The final film in Hammer's Dracula series is perhaps the least talked about, despite being the weirdest. By 1974, Hammer's star was fading. The seminal British studio struggled to keep up with the changing tastes of genre audiences and attempts to cram their gothic ghouls into modern film styles weren't working. While some experiments - like the campy Dracula Ad 1972 or Satanic Rites Of Dracula - have a certain cult appeal now, they were poorly received at the time and drove their star Christopher Lee to quit the franchise for good.
Not to be dissuaded, Hammer decided to inject new blood into the Dracula franchise one last time by cashing in on the latest cinematic craze – kung fu.

Dave Williams, a youth football coach, was shot and killed on Thursday night, according to police. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, but he died in transit, according to a press release from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. No one else at the scene was injured.
According to Wplg-tv, Williams’ young team members were present at the time of the shooting and he reportedly told them to run before being shot. As of Friday, the shooters — who are described as a group of several men — had not been located and no motive had been established.

Geek Culture is both spontaneously youthful and historically well heeled. New brands emerge frequently, like Boom! Studios Lumberjanes and The Backstagers, just written up in the New York Times. But brands like Batman and Captain America are more than 75 years old and provide a rich history for storytellers and collectors alike.
In this, my second of three articles exploring Geek Culture’s fascination with The Phantom, an 80 year old brand, I’m taking our conversation to Ireland.
Eoin McAuley is an ambitious professional who helped launch the Dublin Comic Con. And this year, there’s a charity overlay at this convention spotlighting The Phantom. Here’s my recent interview with Eoin.
Ed Catto: I’m anxious to hear about the Dublin Comic Con, Eoin. Can you please tell me about your convention?

New York, August 13: A new study has revealed that sharing too many selfies on social networking sites like Facebook, could potentially be harmful to your closest relationships.
The UK research found that people who post photos too frequently on social networks, run the risk of alienating friends, family members and colleagues, leading to less supportive bonds, the New York Daily News reported.
Lead researcher Dr. David Houghton said in a statement that selfies, or self-portraits, seem to be some of the most irksome images.
Houghton asserted that people, other than very close friends and relatives, don't.

We’ve featured works by graphic artist Dave Williams here in the past, notably his series of Marvel movies posters, including “Captain America: The First Avenger”, “X-Men: First Class”, and “Thor”. His latest addition to his Marvel posters line is for “The Avengers”, which you can see for yourself below. This new one is a bit less minimalist than Dave’s previous three posters, which all had a really cool, retro look and feel to them that I really dug. I think he was going for more of a cartoony look here. Not sure I’m a fan of cartoony movie posters, but apparently lots of people are, because Dave has already sold out of original prints for it. Oh well, what do I know? The real Marvel film, starring Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Clark Gregg,...

We caught up with Helen Baxendale to discuss her film Beyond The Pole, out on DVD and Blu-ray this week…
Beyond The Pole is the story of two hideously unprepared men and their well-meaning but shambolic trek to the Antarctic. We spoke to actor Helen Baxendale, who co-created the film with partner and director David Williams, about the casting, production and promotion of the film.
What first made you want to make Beyond The Pole?
God knows why, because it’s been a nightmare from start to finish, and we’ve not seen a penny reward! Only joking!
We thought the radio series was funny and could film it with two leads and a cameraman following them and make it cheap and sell it for a million dollars. Unfortunately, lots of crew insisted they were absolutely vital and they probably had a point as we were floating on sea ice in polar bear territory.
