The Black Mass, the title of actress Devanny Pinn’s directorial debut is not, as one might guess, a reference to a Satanic ritual. It’s the description one of the survivors gave of the man who, across one long night in 1978, attacked four of her sorority sisters, killing two of them as well as attacking a random woman he encountered nearby.
That man was Ted Bundy. That doesn’t mean that The Black Mass is a typical true-crime film or even a straightforward slasher film. Pinn and co-writers Eric Pereira and Brandon Slagle keep the killer in the background figuratively and literally for much of the film.
While he is in almost every scene, or the scenes are shot from his perspective, for the...

Director Shawn C. Phillips is back with Desert Fiends, a new indie horror movie that’s packed with familiar faces and bloody carnage candy.
You can watch the official trailer for Desert Fiends below, which runs over 3-minutes long and plays out like a highlight reel of the old school practical effects you can expect in this one.
Fans of Wes Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes will probably want to check this one out, as well as anyone who has an affinity for practical gore effects and wild monster makeups.
In Desert Fiends, “Six friends break down in the middle of nowhere on the way to a concert and encounter a deranged family that lives in the desert killing anyone they come across.”
The impressive cast includes Spencer Breslin, Lorelei Linklater, Eric Roberts, Scout Taylor Compton, Tom Arnold, Michael Pare, Bai Ling, Robert Lasardo, William McNamara, Lisa Wilcox, Eileen Dietz,...

The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise has been dormant for over a decade now, and despite the fact that people like Mike Flanagan and Elijah Wood are interested in making Elm Street movies, there are no new films on the horizon. So keep scrolling down to see our take on Nightmare on Elm Street Movies Ranked.

The "Nightmare on Elm Street" film series was a hotbed for emerging talent. Many of the directors in the franchise would go on to prolific or interesting careers. Chuck Russell, director of "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors" would go on to make Hollywood blockbusters like "The Mask," "Eraser," and "The Scorpion King." Renny Harlin, who directed "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master" would likewise enter the Hollywood mainstream with films like "Predator 2," "Die Hard 2," "Cliffhanger," and "Cutthroat Island." Jack Sholder, Stephen Hopkins, and Rachael Talalay also emerged from the series' directors pool.
One can also find a few rising actors at the start of their careers throughout the Freddy Krueger movies. Famously, a young Johnny Depp starred in Wes Craven's 1984 original, and, for "Dream Warriors," Patricia Arquette made her cinematic debut.

It’s not even October, but Massachusetts is already being spoiled with horror events. A mere week after Silver Scream Con took place in Danvers, Terror Con slashed into the Royal Plaza Trade Center in Marlborough on September 15-17.
Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, had the longest lines throughout the weekend. He was joined by several other A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise alumni: Part 1’s Heather Langenkamp, Amanda Wyss, and Ronee Blakeley; Part 2’s Mark Patton and Kim Myers; Part 4’s Lisa Wilcox and Nicholas Mele; Part 5’s Erika Anderson, Whit Hertford, and Beatrice Boepple; and Freddy vs. Jason‘s Monica Keena.
Other big draws included Lance Henriksen (Aliens), Edward Furlong (Terminator 2), pro wrestling legend Mick Foley, The Walking Dead‘s Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Chandler Riggs, Emily Kinney, and Katelyn Nacon, Danielle Harris (Halloween), Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks), John Kassir (Tales from the Crypt), and a Fright Night reunion with Chris Sarandon,...

“I’ve been guarding my gate for a long time, bitch!” This is one of many wholesome one liners Freddy Krueger drops in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. And when we’re here talking about the 35th anniversary of the fourth film of the franchise? He’s right.
And The Dream Master only gets better with age.
An inexperienced but hungry young director in Renny Harlin facing a rushed production, a producer (Robert Shaye) understandably skeptical of Harlin’s abilities, and a (very apropos for the 35th anniversary) writer’s strike causing the entire production to basically “run and gun” the whole shoot. Not exactly the perfect breeding ground for the biggest box office return of the franchise to that point and one of the most rewatchable films of the franchise. Yet, it happened.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves and pretend The Dream Master was without blemishes.

When a filmmaker takes on a story based on the crimes committed by a real serial killer, they have to walk a fine line. If they cross that line, it can feel disrespectful to the victims… and can even seem like they’re glorifying the killer. That’s not something Devanny Pinn intends to do with her feature directorial debut a 1970s serial killer tale called Black Mass. Speaking with Rue Morgue, she revealed that Black Mass focuses on the victims rather than the killer.
Inspired by real events, Black Mass is set over a 24-hour period in Florida during the winter of 1978 when college girls were being stalked by a serial killer. Eric Pereira and Brandon Slagle wrote the screenplay. Cast members include Lew Temple (The Devil’s Rejects), Jeremy London (Mallrats), Lisa Wilcox (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master), Michelle Romano (Escape From Ensenada), Kathleen Kinmont...

Right from its inception, the "Scream" franchise was never intended to be merely a great horror movie. Original writer Kevin Williamson always wanted the film to have loftier goals; as he said in a 2021 interview, "'Scream' was a new way of doing a horror film, a deconstruction." Original director Wes Craven almost didn't direct the first "Scream," having already made another meta-deconstruction of the horror genre, 1994's "Wes Craven's New Nightmare," but was convinced to sign on eventually.
In Williamson and Craven's hands, the first four "Scream" films doubled as of-the-moment commentaries on the state of the slasher film and Hollywood trends in general. The first "Scream" established the general "rules" of a slasher, "Scream 2" opined on the increased budgets and mayhem of a sequel, "Scream 3" mused on what makes a good trilogy, and "Scream 4" tackled the then-rampant trend of the "reboot." 2022's "Scream," directed...

This post contains minor spoilers for "Scream VI."
The "Scream" franchise has moved beyond its original director Wes Craven, who sadly passed away in 2015 (leaving the horror guru's final feature film as 2011's "Scream 4"). However, that doesn't mean the new stewards of the series, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (collectively known as Radio Silence), are looking to forget him.
Quite the contrary; in 2022's "Scream" there is a scene that features a party honoring one of the victims of Ghostface, Wes Hicks (Dylan Minnette). In slyly clever fashion, the party allows the film and filmmakers to stage a tribute to Craven on a meta referential level, with the banner "For Wes" doubling as a dedication to the departed director.
The latest installment, "Scream VI," heavily features the series' new cast of characters and moves the action to New York City, yet the references to Craven are far from finished.

Milf Manor, a new reality show on TLC, has raised eyebrows since its debut in January. Many viewers are divided over the show’s unusual premise, including a gross twist involving mothers and sons. In a recent interview, Milf Manor producer Daniela Neumann addressed the criticism, even revealing that she thought “milf” had a very different meaning than the one many Americans know.

Those who have seen 30 Rock likely remember the episode about Milf Island, a fictional show where mothers and eighth-grade boys are on an island together. FredHeads, a documentary about the fan following of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise (sort of like the Evil Dead fanbase documentary Hail to the Deadites), has been a long time coming. We previously wrote about it back in January of 2018! But now it’s finally ready to make its way out into the world, having premiered at the HorrorHound Weekend convention in Cincinnati, Ohio this past September. The documentary has been acquired for distribution by BayView Entertainment, and they are planning to release it internationally for purchase on February 14, 2023.
Along with the release date announcement, BayView Entertainment has provided a trailer for FredHeads, and you can watch that in the embed above.

Sleep can literally kill you. That's what makes "A Nightmare on Elm Street" so downright spooky. Upon reading a mind-blowing story about a young Cambodian child, who was terrified to sleep and then died while apparently dreaming, filmmaker Wes Craven conjured up a sleep demon for a screenplay. Freddy Krueger was born out of a real-life wave of similar incidents that swept across America in the 1980s. The 1984 slasher film, produced by New Line's Robert Shaye, saved the company from disaster and put it immovably on the map. It reinvented the slasher genre at a time when the horror subgenre was on its way out. By leaning into the universal human experience of sleep, it brought genuine fear to the surface again.
In the coming years, Freddy Krueger has haunted our dreams across six sequels, a vs. movie with Jason Voorhees, and a 2010 remake, starring Rooney Mara and Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy himself.

The Bloody Man begins with a night shot of assorted Masters of the Universe toys on a table, telling us that it’s another throwback to the 80s. Granted if you saw any of the film’s announcements hyping the presence of two actresses from A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, Lisa Wilcox and Tuesday Knight you probably guessed that already.
Sam (David Daniel) has recently lost his mother Laurie (Lisa Wilcox). His father wasted no time in moving stepmom Kim (Tuesday Knight) in. To make it worse, both his brother Michael (Sam Hadden) and sister Amy (Olivia Sanders) accept her, while Sam is suspicious of her and her motives.
It’s this family dynamic, along with Sam being bullied at school, that takes...

Exclusive: Freestyle Digital Media has acquired North American rights to a pair of coming-of-age dramas: writer-director Alana Waksman’s debut feature We Burn Like This, and writer-director Anna Matz’s first feature, Love You Anyway. The digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group plans to release both titles across internet and satellite platforms on June 28.
Inspired by true events, the former film from Armian Pictures shows the inherited effects of historical trauma and the strength of survival and healing. When 22-year-old Rae (Madeleine Coghlan), a descendant of Holocaust survivors, is targeted by Neo-Nazis in Billings, Montana, her ancestors’ trauma becomes real. As antisemitism continues to rise in the community, we follow Rae on her journey to forgive herself, her mother and the broken world. We Burn Like This also stars Reservation Dogs‘ Devery Jacobs, as well as Kendra Mylnechuk, Angelo Rizzo, Casidee Riley and Megan Folsom.

In director James Cullen Bressack’s upcoming film, “Murder, Anyone?”, two playwrights named George and Charlie, are tasked with the challenge of creating the next “avant-garde, surrealistic, mind-bending neo-noire thriller.”
Unfortunately, as they write, the story comes to life in real time. However, their own emotions and arguments also begin to manifest on film, creating sharp twists and turns and filling their life with hilarity — and chaos. And below, you can get a hint of what that’s like courtesy of some exclusive-to-TheWrap images.
The comedic play-within-a-play-within-a-movie, which per Bressack contemplates “the complexities of language, art, theater, film and more” is also especially personal for him. It’s based on the play written by his father, Emmy award-winning “Pinky and the Brain” writer Gordon Bressack, who died in 2019.
“I self financed and made the film in honor of my father’s memory so his words could live on,” Bressack said.

James Cullen Bressack (“Fortress”) is adapting the play “Murder, Anyone?” into a feature film, Variety can exclusively reveal.
“Muder, Anyone?” was originally written by Bressack’s father, Emmy Award-winning “Pinky and the Brain” writer Gordon Bressack. The play first premiered at the White Fire Theatre in Los Angeles in 2017.
Gordon Bressack, who worked on dozens of beloved animated shows including “Animaniacs” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” died in 2019.
Now his son will direct and produce a feature film adaptation, in part to “bring attention to his work,” Bressack tells Variety.
Spencer Breslin (“The Happening”) and Kristos Andrews (“The Bay”) are set to star in the film, a faithful adaptation of Bressack Sr.’s show about two playwrights tasked with creating a new “avant-garde, surrealistic, mind-bending neo-noire thriller” who find their story coming to life as they write.
Breslin and Andrews are joined by Galadriel Stineman (“The Is Us”), Maurice Lamarche (“Animaniacs”), Charles M.

One of the most frustrating aspects of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is the obstinate refusal of many people to follow the very simple guidelines put forward, as they whine about their civil liberties being curtailed by a few minor inconveniences put in place in the interest of preventing countless unnecessary deaths.
In response, and following horror legend Robert Englund’s “Wear your glove” PSA, various actors from throughout the Nightmare On Elm Street saga have come together to create a sinister yet effective public information video to remind people of the basic information imparted that will help stop the spread of infection.

It’s hard to believe that yet another Flashback Weekend is upon us once again, with the longest-running horror convention in Chicago set to take over the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare from Friday, August 2nd through Sunday, August 4th. This year's festivities look to be a stellar time for genre fans, with a cavalcade of notable guests descending upon the three-day event. If you happened to miss our previous coverage of the various talent announcements for Flashback (you can check them out Here), for this year’s convention, Bruce Campbell is returning to Chicago and will be reuniting with both Sam and Ted Raimi to celebrate all things Evil Dead.

As if the lineup for Flashback Weekend 2019 wasn’t already impressive enough, Chicago’s best horror convention recently announced that this year’s event will play host to a Night of the Creeps reunion, featuring director Fred Dekker, Tom Atkins, Jason Lively, Jill Whitlow, and Steve Marshall. And for those of you ultra Notc geeks out there, you’ll even have the opportunity to take an in-costume photo with the whole gang, which should be a total thrill for attendees.
Flashback Weekend revealed earlier this year that genre legends Sam Raimi, Robert Englund, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd will all be in attendance this August, making the Chicago horror con a can’t-miss event for horror fans. Other attendees announced for Fbw 2019 include Lance Henriksen, Virginia Madsen, Ted Raimi, Heather Langenkamp, Amanda Wyss, Lisa Wilcox, Tuesday Knight, Alicia Witt, Cerina Vincent, and Return of the Living Dead 3’s Melinda Clarke.
