Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
Despite featuring the most awkward title yet, it’s my pleasure to report that Amityville 1992: It’s About Time is a top-tier entry in the Amityville Horror series.
Thanks primarily to assured direction by Hellbound: Hellraiser 2’s Tony Randel and a wild script from writers Christopher DeFaria and Antonio Toro (based loosely on a book by John G. Jones), the sixth entry in the Amityville series is a genuine delight from top to bottom.
Many of the franchise’s key elements are here: the iconic windows, a widowed character, the dysfunctional family, goopy practical FX, and a new cursed object. Here it’s a clock, which is immediately described by a character as “ugly,” continuing a trend that began with the lamp in The Evil Escapes.

Uncle Slavko's All-American Family Lodge is a friendly vacation destination... until toxic waste infects the workers dressed as Bigfoot. Creature horror gets a twist in Matt Jackson's Love In The Time Of Monsters, a new film starring Doug Jones and Kane Hodder that's now available on DVD and VOD. We have an exclusive clip from the horror-comedy in which Hodder wears a monstrous costume that's more animalistic than his signature hockey mask.
Synopsis: "Love In The Time Of Monsters will take you on a horrifying, hilarious trip through the backwoods of the Pacific Northwest, as two sisters battle murderous, toxic-waste ravaged monsters to save the ones they love.
As children, Marla (Gena Shaw) and Carla (Marissa Skell) lost their father in a horrific accident at a roadside attraction. Fifteen years later, the girls find themselves in a similarly lethal tourist trap after Carla’s fiancé Johnny and the other...

Some horror fans automatically have a negative connotation attached to franchises with a lot of sequels. Moreover, some have antipathy toward direct to video sequels and make assumptions that because they were not in the theater that they are automatically going to be bad regardless. I have watched the entire original run of the Amityville movies and this could be argued as the best direct to video sequel of the lot. First released by Republic Pictures in 1992, “Amityville 1992” takes the premise of the book it is based on and gives a good outing to a dying franchise.

With A&E’s “Bates Motel” premiering Monday evening, now is a perfect time for Norman Bates to make his one and only B-Sides appearance. What? You didn’t know a Psycho movie spawned a pop song and MTV music video? “Scream of Love” was the Psycho III theme song. Sorry, Norman; can’t blame mother for this one.
For more than a quarter century Carter Burwell has been composing film scores. Over 80 movies boast his musical contributions; you’ve heard his work in such films as The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and even several of the Twilight films. Early in his career Burwell composed the score for the Anthony Perkins directed Psycho III. The soundtrack produced a couple original songs, mostly heard in the background coming from a jukebox. Universal, however, wanted something with more pop to it in order to promote Psycho III on MTV.

It's been a long time in coming, but we're finally getting closer to seeing Baywatch on the big screen. One of the most-watched television shows in the world has found its movie scriptwriters, meaning the only thing holding it back now is onscreen talent. After all, Jessica Simpson can't be the only star.
Baywatch is the series that turned David Hasselhoff from a guy who talked to a car in Knight Rider, to simply the "Hoff." The show revolves around Los Angeles lifeguards and the drama that surrounds them both at work and at play. Because of the attractiveness of the stars, it became more known for being eye-candy than for its plotlines. It made a star of Pamela Anderson, and other castmembers include Michael Newman, Parker Stevenson, Billy Warlock, Shawn Weatherly, Alexandra Paul, David Charvet, Nicole Eggert, and Yasmine Bleeth.
