Sneak Peek extended footage from the Netflix TV series "Jessica Jones", starring Krysten Ritter, showcasing the fate of super-villain 'Kilgrave' (David Tennant):
"...'Kevin Thompson', aka 'Kilgrave' (Tennant) was a man who was experimented on by his parents since his childhood in order to treat a neurodegenerative disease, but the treatment ended up giving him the new ability to control people's minds at his will.
"Assuming the name 'Kilgrave', he began to use his powers for personal gain and developed a cruel nature, eventually coming across 'Jessica Jones' who he kept as his personal sex slave for several months.
"Kilgrave became obsessed and fascinated with Jones, even falling in love and hunting her down since she managed to overcome his thrall...

Want to see how Netflix's Jessica Jones series ties in with the source comics? Here are our viewing notes for episode 8, Aka Wwjd?
Marvel's Jessica Jones is available to view now on Netflix, and as with Daredevil we'll be providing (mostly) daily episode-by-episode coverage for those who want to follow it with us. Each instalment of these viewing notes will look at how the show's plot, characters and story relate to the comic source material, providing background information and pointers for those who want to know more.
Please note that while we might occasionally reveal the way plots developed in the comics, we are trying to be sensitive to any surprises the TV show may have in store. These notes are written immediately after the episode is watched, so any speculation about the way the story may go is purely that!

Three-time Emmy® nominee Amy Schumer (“Inside Amy Schumer”) stars as a commitment-phobic journalist in Trainwreck, the film Fandango calls “the funniest movie of the year,” is coming to Digital HD October 20, 2015, and Blu-ray™, DVD and On Demand on November 10, 2015, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Schumer takes her undeniable talents to the big screen tossing aside rom-com conventions with a timely and outrageously funny portrait of an unapologetically independent career woman whose hard-partying personal life is turned upside down when she meets Mr. Might-Be-Right. Directed and produced by comedy guru Judd Apatow (Bridesmaids, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, “Girls”), Trainwreck Unrated arrives on Blu-ray™ & DVD with even more hysterical moments, including deleted scenes, gag reel, line-o-rama & more!
Since she was a little girl, Amy (Amy Schumer) has been taught that monogamy isn’t realistic. Now a magazine writer, Amy lives by that credo, enjoying an uninhibited life free from stifling, boring romantic commitment.

Birdman led the field heading into tonight's 2015 Critics Choice Awards with 13 total nominations followed by The Grand Budapest Hotel with 11 nominations, and Boyhood with eight. Of course, following this morning's 2015 Oscar nominations all eyes were on the Critics Choice Awards to see how this awards season will continue to flow. Some were already declaring the Oscars irrelevant, bypassed by the likes of the more diverse list of nominees at both the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards as the Oscars failed to nominate Selma and saw a list of acting nominees dominated by all-white actors. Personally, I think people are looking to blame the Academy for overall industry ills, but I guess there is some level of importance to be placed on being the organization to move the dial. Is that by nominations alonec How much do winners matterc That's probably a question best left for another time, as for tonight's awards.

Just as it made a strong showing in the Oscar nominations Thursday morning, “Birdman” was the front-runner with the most nominations for the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards Thursday night. It also ended the night with the most trophies, taking home seven, including both Best Actor and Best Actor in a Comedy for Michael Keaton, Best Acting Ensemble, and Best Editing — the film was shot to look as if it was a single continuous take.

Awards season continued Thursday night with the 20th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards. Live with Kelly and Michael's Michael Strahan hosted the show at the Hollywood Palladium, and kept the mood "light and easy," as promised (starting with a Magic Mike-inspired strip-tease to open the show). Birdman walked away with the most statues, and Kevin Costner, Ron Howard and Jessica Chastain received special awards during the ceremony. Birdman entered the race with the most nominations, 13, and took six of the categories. Not far behind was Boyhood, which took four of its eight nominated categories, and The Grand Budapest Hotel with 11 nominations and three wins.

Just below are the 2015 Art Directors Guild nominations and as much as it may seem like Nightcrawler and American Sniper are currently bathing in nominations from all corners, what other contemporary films were going to get nominationsc The period category, however, does consist of a few alternatives that weren't nominated such as Mr. Turner and Fury and I can't help but wonder what the guild would have done in attempting to categorize Noah... Is it a period film or a fantasy filmc I'll leave that one alone... Perhaps one of the more surprisingly absent nominees is Maleficent. You could say there were too many special effects, but then again, isn't that what today's fantasy films primarily arec That said, just below are the nominations for contemporary, period and fantasy films and you can find my current Production Design predictions right here. I see this one as The Grand Budapest Hotel's to lose,...

The Art Directors Guild has announced nominees for the group's 19th annual awards, and films that have come on strong as of late like "American Sniper" and "Nightcrawler" were in the mix along notable extravagant displays in the period and fantasy categories. However, there were a few missing pieces. In the fantasy arena, both "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" and "Maleficent" came up short, while "Exodus: Gods and Kings" missed in the period department. The most shocking snub might be "Mr. Turner's" in that field, however. (And it would have been great to see "Snowpiercer" get some love here, but, alas.) As a reminder, the Guild implemented a new rule this season. Period films must now have the majority of sets and locations designed to portray a time period at least 20 years prior to the present awards year. Contemporary films, therefore, must have the majority of...

The lavish, ornate designs of “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” the druggy 70s’ SoCal beach-city look of “Inherent Vice” and the fairy-tale landscape of “Into the Woods” are among the work nominated by the members of the Art Directors Guild for the Adg’s 19th annual Excellence in Production Design Awards.

We're winding down the year-in-review game here at HitFix as 2014 draws to a close. For whatever reason I took a year off of the ballot/superlatives posts, but I'm back with those personal assessments of the best of the year, beginning today with my top picks across the Academy's 24 categories. Check back in tomorrow for a list of winners from this lot, as well as others in a slew of peripheral categories. And of course, feel free to let us know what your Oscar ballot would look like in the comments section below. (Oh, and naturally it goes without saying this post is living in a parallel reality where I'm not confined to a specific branch for nominations and reign supreme over all categories with selections for each.) We'll find out if the Academy agrees with any of this when the 87th annual Oscar nominations are announced on Jan. 15. *** Best...

When producer John Lesher first told me way back in June that "Birdman" was a bit of a "magic trick" designed to look like a single take, my jaw dropped. How had I not heard about this? "We're not really talking about it too much," he said at the time, a few months ahead of the film's Venice film festival debut. Which is fair enough. You don't want the technique to overshadow the experience of the film. But then again, the technique of "Birdman" is the experience. It's the thematic soul of its very existence. So naturally, I was dying to talk to cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki ("Chivo") once the season got underway. Only problem: he was stuck in Calgary shooting Alejandro González Iñárritu's follow-up, "The Revenant," a production that runs through April. What??? Suffice it to say I've never been so desperate to get someone on the phone. But...

The beloved musical "Annie" gets a modern-day twist this holiday season, so why not do a little twist to celebrate, right?
Mr. Moviefone (Kevin Thompson) opened up his interview with a little dance number, and stars Quvenzhané Wallis, Rose Byrne, and Jamie Foxx didn't hesitate to bust a move. Once the actors' dancing shoes were off, the young (and Oscar-nominated) Wallis revealed her favorite dance number in "Annie" and Mr. Moviefone turned to the topic of Jay-z and Blue Ivy.
"Annie" dances its way into theaters Friday, December 19.

Birdman is clearly a favorite this awards season, at least when it comes to nominations as it once again tops a list of nominees, this time the 2015 Critics Choice Awards as it leads the field with 13 total nominations followed by The Grand Budapest Hotel, which continues to surge this awards season with 11 nominations, and Boyhood with eight. Full disclosure, I'm part of the Broadcast Film Critics Association (Bfca), which nominates and votes on these awards, but I'm a little nervous my nominees this year weren't counted as I mistakenly missed the deadline by a few hours thinking it was on Saturday, not Friday. Oops, though looking at these nominations it doesn't seem as if it would have mattered. For example, I don't see Locke anywhere, Carrie Coon (Gone Girl) didn't get a supporting actress nomination, A Most Wanted Man didn't get an adapted screenplay nomination, no nomination for The Raid 2 in Best Action Movie,...

Continuing its romp through the critics kudos this awards season, Fox Searchlight’s Birdman drew a whopping 13 nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association’s 20th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. In fact it’s a big day for Fox in general as Searchlight’s March release, The Grand Budapest Hotel was remembered to the tune of 11 nominations, while big Fox scored 6 nominations with Gone Girl. All three compete for Best Picture, Director, Screenplay and significant acting nods. This is a big boost in particular for Budapest, coming on the heels of its SAG nod for Outstanding Cast as well as four key Golden Globe nominations. Usually films opening as early as March are largely forgotten when it comes to Best Picture attention, but Budapest could be a rare exception in recent years if this triumph for the Wes Anderson comedy is repeated at the Oscars. The last film that opened as early as March,...

I've been trying to put my finger on just what it is about 2014 that has me reticent to embrace the "it's weak" narrative. First and foremost, it's a narrative that I do understand. Maybe there's something about the overall cultural impact of film product this year that feels beneath bars set in the past, I don't know. But as I've worked through my personal assessment of the year's best over the last few weeks, I've found that I'm revisiting films more often than usual. I'm finding that my favorites are a funky bunch and that the old top 10 isn't clicking into place as fluidly as it has before (not a bad thing). I'm basically just finding my passion for the year in interesting places. And then it finally dawned on me. The reason 2014 doesn't feel "thin" or "weak" to me is less big picture than nuts and bolts: On a purely craft level,...

Ladies and gentlemen, Moviefone has a new voice... and face.
After launching an online search for the next Mr. or Ms. Moviefone back in September, followed by an open casting call in October and weeks of deliberation, Moviefone has finally found the next face of its iconic brand.
Thursday morning, in an exclusive reveal on NBC's "Today" show, Kevin Thompson, a former warm-up man for "The Wendy Williams Show" and current host of Bet's "Claim to Fame" game show, was named the new Mr. Moviefone. And the Brooklyn, NY native couldn't be happier about the new role.
"To be 'The Voice' and 'The Face' of the Moviefone brand brings me immeasurable joy," Thompson says. "Truth be told, I'm just a kid from Brooklyn, trying to make his mother proud. For years, she's told me to shut up; now, I think she's proud I never did."
It truly is a good thing that he never did.

When I first heard that Jeremy Renner was stepping into the lead of The Bourne Legacy, I was confused and a bit annoyed. I could not understand why Matt Damon would want to leave a franchise that he was made to star in. Renner is no Matt Damon, but he is equally explosive in this intense action thriller. Universal Home Entertainment released the film on Blu-ray and DVD this week, and I had the chance to check it out for a second viewing. I always love watching a movie more than once, and especially love seeing the behind the scenes featurettes that are on the Blu-ray.
Tony Gilroy directs the fourth Bourne film that stars Renner, Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz, Joan Allen, Oscar Isaac and Albert Finney. Gilroy penned the script with his brother Dan, which throws audiences directly into a an expansion of the universe created by Robert Ludlum.

Universal Studios has announced Tony Gilroy‘s The Bourne Legacy for Blu-Ray in December. The film stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton.
It wasn’t long before Universal decided to reboot/sequelize their hot property Bourne franchise. Matt Damon and previous director Paul Greengrass expressed their disinterest in the franchise, which meant it was time to pass the buck onto another up-and-comer. Jeremy Renner happened to land the gig and he did a pretty good job playing another emotionless killing machine trained by a secret government organization.
To bad that the rest of The Bourne Legacy was action-less and dull, leading to a very anti-climactic ending that left more than a bad taste in my mouth. Apparently I’m not the only one that disliked it, because our very own Jonathan Lack had some negative things to say about the film in his review:

Britain's Prince William has apologised after accidentally upsetting the father of a soldier killed in Iraq. The prince asked Mark Thompson - father of Private Kevin Thompson who died in a roadside bomb - if he was a retired soldier at a memorial service held as a tribute to those killed in the war. Mark and his wife Theresa - who were among 2,000 guests at St Paul's Cathedral in London - were left furious as Mark was wearing a badge of a grieving relative. Furious Mr. Thompson, a bus driver from Lancaster, told Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper: "I didn't go over to talk to William, I just got turned around and the next thing I knew I was shaking...

Yesterday came the yearly announcement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as it extended 134 invitations to several artists and executives "who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures" read the press release. On Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences issued invitations to 134 members of the film community to join the group. There were a maximum of 166 open slots to fill this year, but the various branch committees endorsed fewer candidates than were proposed to them.
Hugh Jackman, who hosted the most recent Oscar show, has been invited to join. So have Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, James Franco and Michelle Williams. The list even includes a number of comic performers like Michael Cera, Seth Rogan and Paul Rudd.
Voting membership in the organization has held steady at just under 6,000 members since 2003.
New members will be welcomed into the Academy at an invitation-only reception at the Academy's Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study in Beverly Hills in September.
