Dig!, a documentary about two bands – The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols – is a musical trainwreck, equal parts romantic comedy and horror film that follows the highs and lows of being a musician, in the studio, on the road and in their own heads.
The film, which launched at Sundance in 2004 and is returning to the festival this year with an extended cut, is a favorite among the musical class. I’ve sat in countless tour vans and crappy motels where it’s watched, quoted and dissected by kids with a dream and a drumkit.
Dave Grohl, the legendary Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman, told me that it’s a “f*cking masterpiece” and that it’s also his favorite horror film.

A group of Harvey Weinstein’s alleged victims has issued a statement condemning remarks made by his attorney Friday night on ABC’s Nightline.
Weinstein appeared in a Manhattan court Friday for a bail hearing. Prosecutors sought to have his bail increased to $5 million from its current $1 million, arguing he violated his terms by allegedly tampering with an ankle monitor. Weinstein has pleaded not guilty to allegations of rape and sexual assault. He’s scheduled for a follow-up hearing on Wednesday.
The ongoing legal battle appears to be taking a toll on Weinstein’s health. He looked haggard upon exiting the court house and had to be supported by two aides to make it into a waiting vehicle. That night, ABC’s Nightline aired a segment featuring Weinstein attorney Donna Rotunno, who maintained that anything her client did was consensual. In response, 21 women who came forward and claimed they were...

The post Saturday included a selfie of Blair during a wardrobe fitting for the series with costumer Allison Swanson.
“The brilliant costumer #Allisaswanson not only designs the pieces #harperglass will wear on this new #Netflix show, but she carefully gets my legs in my pants, pulls my tops over my head, buttons my coats and offers her shoulder to steady myself,” Blair posted. “I have #multiplesclerosis. She added: “By the grace of the lord, and will power and the understanding producers at Netflix, I have a job. A wonderful job. I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And...

Sundwall joins a cast that includes Toby Stephens and Molly Parker as the Robinson parents, Parker Posey as the villainous Dr. Smith, and Ignacio Serricchio as Don West.
Sundwall has steadily put together an impressive list of film credits, appearing in Freeheld, Maggie's Plan, and Tara Subkoff's #Horror, in which she played the key role of Francesca (see below).
Season one of the new Lost in Space series will consist of ten episodes and is slated to premiere in 2018 on Netflix.

Part Reefer Madness for the plugged-in generation, part Giallo slasher, and part coming-of-age psychodrama, #Horror is filled with the type of craziness that sounds like it would make it a shoe-in for genre festivals across the globe. But alas, it’s incredibly dull, and for every gonzo tangent into an enigmatic snuff film social network, there’s multiple other sequences that are so ineptly directed that a sense of atmosphere or narrative momentum seems purely accidental.
Split inexplicably down the middle of its thin running time between an avant-chic artist named Alex Cox (Chloë Sevigny) on an all-day sojourn away from her crumbling marriage to a famous modern artist (think Jeffrey Koons), and a violently escalating sleepover at their mansion hosted by her daughter, #Horror proves early on that it has no sense of how to bridge these halves.

One of the most horrifying aspects of transitioning into adolescence for every generation is the potential for those new teens to be ridiculed by their peers. Preparing to become a teenager is even more terrifying today, however, as that devastating taunting has moved from only happening by their peers at school to now occurring all of the time by people around the world online. That harrowing transition into cyberbulling is grippingly showcased in the new horror film, ‘#Horror,’ which marks the feature film writing, directing, producing and production design debuts of actress Tara Subkoff. The drama, which is being distributed into theaters in New York and L.A., and on VOD [ Read More ]

Life seems on the whole to be going pretty well for Tara Subkoff and her husband of nearly three years, Urs Fischer — if what they’re after is a kind of tenured-hipster second act. Fischer, the Swiss artist who has lived in New York for just over a decade, is best known for playful sculptures that often seem to embody a heroic futility. (He made that 23-foot-tall, 17-ton bronze figure of a teddy bear impaled by a desk lamp that stood in front of the Seagram Building a few years back.) Subkoff, the long-durational “It” girl, who not so long ago survived a brain tumor, has her directorial debut, #Horror, opening this month. She grew up in Connecticut — her father owned an antiques shop on Broadway and 13th Street she says Andy Warhol used to frequent — and went to prep school in Massachusetts. For many years, she ran...

As bullying seems to have reached disturbing new heights, it’s refreshing to see movies other than Drillbit Taylor attempt to capture the ever-changing landscape of emotional and physical harassment. Some Kind Of Hate deals with a victim’s mindset, and The Gift tackles a bully’s inevitable future, but Tara Subkoff’s #Horror deals with the most prevalent method of new-age harassers – cyberbullying.
Subkoff’s subtext is loaded with commentary about a generational problem that sees electronic devices glued to younger hands, as socialization has now migrated online where crops are shared, candy is crushed, and insults can be hurled from behind the safety of a glowing screen. Kudos to Ms. Subkoff for spreading awareness of an all-too-real horror story, but I’m not sure the artistic chaos of #Horror translates into an emotional arthouse piece that pulls no punches.

Nineties it-girl and design impresario Tara Subkoff is back in the art game with "#Horror," the newest entry in the quickly growing cyber-horror subgenre, which contains the studio-driven "Unfriended" and a groundswell of indie horror films hosted on platforms like Periscope. The film, which feeds on the slasher film tropes of unattended youth and isolated locales, places six 12-year-old tech-obsessives in a massive house that is more art gallery than Connecticut home. The girls each have a history with cyber cruelty, especially the withdrawn Cat (Haley Murphy), who was bullied after her mother's death the year prior, and the shy Sam (Sadie Seelert), whose timid ways and lower income status make her an immediate target for the other girls. As You “Like” It: Subkoff Finds the Sound and the Shrillness in Social Media
Actress Tara Subkoff makes her directorial debut with #Horror, a film whose very title relies on the visual significance of a symbol. However, merely saying the title aloud robs it of certain legitimacy, marking it always and forever as part of a certain lingo from a particularly vapid era (not that teenagers from previous generations weren’t equally obtuse, but since everything is now continually recorded from the banality of their lives, the stream of evidence won’t ever dissipate). While Subkoff’s idea is sometimes interesting, apparently based on an actual instance of social media bullying which mutated into murder, it’s as equally ungainly and unpleasant in its depiction of these vacuous creatures of privilege as they descend into a night of madness.

Tara Subkoff is a woman of many talents. Her acting career took off in the mid-90s and after a few memorable performances, she turned her attention to fashion and art but recently, Subkoff has found herself returning to the world of movies, this time as a writer-director.
Her debut feature #Horror is fascinating stab at modern horror, taking on the all too familiar story of cyber-bullying and interlacing it with culture's obsession with social media. It's a very timely story to be sure but what struck me most about Subkoff's debut is how dense it is with concepts and ideas not to mention the striking visuals of the movie.
