In the previous episode of Extant, we learned that Molly and John lost custody of Ethan, John died and Molly wound up in a mental hospital. When she heard reports of mysterious deaths that sounded a lot like the death of Katie Sparks, Molly broke out of the hospital to investigate. It was then she met the cop working the case, Jd Richter. Since Molly was the only lead he has so far, Jd pulled some strings to get Molly released into his custody for 72 hours so he can get her help with the case. And the final moments of the episode showed us that Molly's supposedly dead alien son is alive and well, albeit having aged into adulthood.
In the second episode of season 2, "Morphoses," Molly and Jd find another pregnant woman suffering from mysterious and deadly symptoms. Meanwhile, Julie resorts to extreme measures to deal with Ethan's behavioral problems,...

Never underestimate the things a son will do for his mama.
That’s the takeaway from the Extant series finale, in which both of Molly’s (for lack of a better term) “kids” play a significant role — and one of them sacrifices himself to protect her and the rest of the world.
But which non-human saved the world: the robot or the alien? Read on to find out.

Molly continues to have Offspring trouble in this week's Extant double bill. Here's Holly's review...
This review contains spoilers.
1.7 More In Heaven And Earth; 1.8: Incursion
In this week’s double episode, Molly becomes a mama to be reckoned with (though she needs to work on her catchphrases), John is hit harder than ever before with the implications of playing God, and... well, all kinds of stuff. Episodes seven and eight, I presume, were meant to be aired in separate weeks, but presented together, they were a lot to deal with. Not that that’s a bad thing - we were treated to probably the greatest amount of reveals to date, not to mention a staggering amount of “what have we done?” Let’s dive in.
Really, I think it’s Katie Sparks’s ghost (for lack of a better term) that weaves the discrete stories of this week’s two hours together,...

Michael O'Neill, who's been so chillingly great during this season of "Bates Motel," is next going to be seen on CBS in "Extant," and the part of his character's daughter will be played by soon-to-be ex-"Grey's Anatomy" co-star Tessa Ferrer.
Per TV Guide, Ferrer (who is singer Debby Boone's daughter and also related to actors José, Miguel, and Rafael Ferrer) will recur as Katie Sparks, an over-achieving astronaut and the offspring of O'Neill's Alan Sparks, who serves as the director of the Isea.
Ferrer (pictured) currently plays Leah Murphy on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" but won't be returning next season so the timing couldn't be better for her transition from scrubs to spacesuit.
"Extant" premieres on Wednesday, July 9th, at 9/8c on CBS.
Synopsis:
"Extant" is a mystery thriller about a female astronaut, Molly (Halle Berry), who is trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space.
