The phrase “When it rains, it pours” applies to Mondo posters Wednesday. After a cavalcade of great work by Ken Taylor for their Austin-based gallery, Mondo revealed two out-of-left-field posters that’ll go on sale Thursday May 29. There’s the Oscar-winning thriller The French Connection by Adam Simpson and the sci-fi masterpiece The Matrix made by […]

In deadly danger...because they saw too much! Another new poster for one of Hitchcock's classics. Mondo has debuted their poster art for Rear Window, Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 thriller classic starring Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly. The art is designed by artist Adam Simpson, and features a creative design of the apartment block, with the various tenants that Stewart spies on hidden within. It's a very sleek design, although a bit contemporary and certainly different from the film's real marketing. It's also reminiscent of the recent Home Alone poster, also designed by Adam Simpson. You can see the poster and alternate below. Here's the new Mondo poster for Hitchcock's Rear Window. 24"x36" screen print, on sale on January 23rd. Both of these will be sold by Mondo Tees. $45 for the original design (top), $65 for the alternate (bottom). Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window was first released in 1954 by Paramount Pictures, and later...

After debuting an awesome poster for Die Hard as part of the Mondo Mystery Movie program, another modern holiday classic is getting the same treatment from the collectible arthouse. Adam Simpson has delivered an awesome poster for Home Alone, the Chris Columbus directed holiday comedy that made a star out of Macaulay Culkin, and turned Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci into some of the worst thieves of all-time. The poster went on sale yesterday, so you'll have to hit eBay if you're desperate, but it's so damn cool that we wanted to highlight it. It captures the spirit of the movie, and lays out all the cool traps. Look! I love the surreal Mc Escher-esque layout of the McCallister house with Harry and Marv getting caught up in all of Kevin's traps. From the paint cans to the Micro Machines and the other various things the Wet Bandits step on,...

Mondo has revealed a cool set of movie posters based on the films directed by Ben Affleck. Those films include Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Argo. Affleck is a very talented director, and I'm looking forward to his future projects. Here's what he had to say in a statement,
I’ve always loved Mondo and their passion for film, as well as their talented stable of artists. I was initially drawn by their ability to offer a unique perspective on so many beloved films and am thrilled to see my films become the newest additions to their work.
The poster series will be released on Monday, December 9th. For the exact sale time, please follow @MondoNews on Twitter.

Mondo loves Ben Affleck. The boutique artwork arm of the Alamo Drafthouse has released four new posters of the director-actor's three films: Oscar winner "Argo" (poster by Matthew Woodson), "The Town" (two posters for that one, by Daniel Danger) and "Gone Baby Gone" (poster by Adam Simpson.) Check them out below. Affleck says he loves Mondo, too. He states: "I've always loved Mondo and their passion for film, as well as their talented stable of artists. I was initially drawn by their ability to offer a unique perspective on so many beloved films and am thrilled to see my films become the newest additions to their work." The posters become available December 9 for order on Mondo's website.

Sydney — Australian rockers Men at Work on Friday lost their final court bid to prove they did not steal the distinctive flute riff of their 1980s hit "Down Under" from a children's campfire song.
The High Court of Australia denied the band's bid to appeal a federal court judge's earlier ruling that the group had copied the signature flute melody of "Down Under" from the song "Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree."
"Kookaburra," a song about Australia's famous bird of the same name, was written more than 70 years ago by Australian teacher Marion Sinclair for a Girl Guides competition. The song went on to become a favorite around campfires from New Zealand to Canada. The wildly popular "Down Under" remains an unofficial anthem for Australia.
Sinclair died in 1988, but publishing company Larrikin Music – which now holds the copyright for "Kookaburra" – filed a copyright lawsuit in 2009.

For their 5th annual event, which is set to run Sept. 8-11, the Sydney Underground Film Festival is looking a little more demented than ever. And that’s saying a lot for this scrappy, still relatively young fest, which typically offers ample twisted cinematic offerings.
The fun kicks off with the Opening Night film, the demented superhero comedy Super, written and directed by former Troma go-to screenwriter James Gunn (Tromeo & Juliet); then ends with the Closing Night wallowing in Sydney’s seedy underbelly, X, by homegrown filmmaker Jon Hewitt.
Crammed between these two excursions into violence and depravity is a lineup filled with perverse visions, scandalous public figures, sickening horror, experimental pop culture remixes and more.
For Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film, the highlight of the fest is Usama Alshaibi‘s Profane, a complex psychological, psychosexual, spiritual morality play about a Muslim sex worker who endures a “reverse...

Though the 64th Annual BAFTA Awards, the British version of the Oscars, took place earlier this week (The King's Speech swept the boards) we just found some BAFTA-related art that you must see. Every year, BAFTA commissions a designer to create posters of the five Best Film nominees for their annual brochure. We featured the awesome posters they made last year and they've finally posted the art online from this year (via HeyUGuys) and they are quite intriguing posters. This year's series of Black Swan, Inception, The King's Speech, The Social Network and True Grit was designed by Adam Simpson. See all five below. Out of these, my favorites are Black Swan and The King's Speech. I don't really like The Social Network or True Grit posters at all, the imagery isn't that poignant in either one. If you want to learn more, head over to the BAFTA website, where...

Have you seen these downloadable e-mags from the British Academy? They have beautiful illustrated covers by Adam Simpson, one for each of the Best Picture nominees. I've included three of them here representing... well you can tell, can't you?
Black Swan continues to inspire graphic artists. I think The King's Speech design might be the best of the five designs. It has great composition, cleverly utilizes the memorable Eve Stewart production design, and that blimp heading towards / pointing at the King tells you the thrust of the story. The True Grit illustration is my least favorite of the five but I include it because it made me chuckle trying to reimagine the Coen Bros western as a Disney musical. You know how they do; the heroes/heroines are always standing on those jutting triangular pointed cliffs, singing their hearts out.

Australian court ruled the song copied the children's classic 'Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree.'

For a generation of pop music fans in the 1980s, it was the bubbly anthem that provided a lesson about the Australian vegetable-based brown sandwich spread vegemite. For Aussie band Men at Work, it was the song that put them on the international map, making them the only band from "Down Under" to ever have a #1 album, Business as Usual, and single at the same time in the U.S. and earning them a 1983 Grammy for Best New Artist.
But for the publishing company Larrikin Music, the signature flute solo in the song "Down Under" sounded a bit too much like the 70-plus-year-old children's campfire song "Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree." According to The Associated Press,...
