Star Wars #14
Written by Jason Aaron
Art by Mike Deodato
Colors by Frank Martin Jr.
Letters by Chris Eliopoulos
Published by Marvel Comics
In Darth Vader #14, another joins the “Vader Down” mix as the Imperial Commander Karbin, who resembles the not so sexy love child of General Grievous and Admiral Ackbar, touches down on Vrogas Vas to get Luke Skywalker for himself after Vader eliminates the Rebels himself. It’s a masterstroke of both strategy and plotting from Kieron Gillen and Jason Aaron and adds a much needed element of unpredictablity to the crossover. Along with the epic clash of lightsabers between Vader and Karbin, there is Chewbacca’s (and kind of Han Solo’s) fight against the Wookiee bounty hunter Krrsantan and Luke getting ambushed by the lethal combination of Karbin’s stormtroopers and Vader’s lethal henchdroids, Triple Zero and BT. Definitely lots of plates to spin, and...

Mark and Aaron start the New Year as members of CriterionCast, and jump into the world of Merchant Ivory’s A Room with a View. With such a lavish, large production with quite an ensemble of characters, there is a lot to say. We discuss the social constraints placed upon the characters, and how some groups have opposing world views that resemble traditional versus modernity, while also touching on the nature of wealth, class, and even gender. We also enjoy discussing how the film surprisingly works as a dry comedy, and we are pleased to have Merchant & Ivory back in print in the Criterion Collection.
About the film:
Merchant Ivory Productions, led by director James Ivory and producer Ismail Merchant, became a household name with A Room with a View, the first of their extraordinary adaptations of E. M. Forster novels. A cherubic nineteen-year-old Helena Bonham Carter plays Lucy Honeychurch,...

The long awaited third expansion for Destiny is here, and it just might silence the haters...
Despite being one of the most successful titles of last year, with a rabid and huge fan base, Destiny took a lot of flak, even from fans. A lack of content, wafer thin story, and Dlc that failed to live up to expectations made for a love/hate relationship, and a game that quickly became too much grind, and not enough fun. Even as an avid fan of the game, I found myself only coming back to do the weekly Nightfall with friends, and even then we only did so when we weren't busy with other games.
With The Taken King, Bungie has high hopes that it'll address a lot of the complaints and issues with the game, and certainly hopes that it'll be a more enjoyable experience than the dreadfully repetitive and dull Prison of Elders.

The next big thing from Bungie has finally arrived, and it's time to see if Destiny is more than Halo with a new paint job...
Regardless of your opinion of Halo or Call Of Duty, one thing can't be disputed – both games play brilliantly. They're fast, fluid, have beautifully tight controls, and gunplay that's amongst the best we've ever seen. Destiny, coming from the makers of Halo, of course, falls into this category.
Right from the off it's easy to see why Bungie's previous Fps titan has gained so many fans. Destiny doesn't only look great, but it feels great too. This is a polished Fps, and you'll instantly feel at home and in control. Yes, it feels very much like Halo, there's no denying that, but that's no bad thing, as Halo was a fine Fps in its own right. Destiny, on the other hand, adds a whole heap of new features,...

In the world of videogames bosses aren't the kind of authority figures that'll give you a last minute report to do, or delegate to you tasks they simply can't be bothered doing. No, these bosses would rather take that report, roll it up into a ball, set fire to it, and throw it at your face. The only delegation they're interested in is getting you to test the sharpness of their axe, or the effectiveness of a new spell.
The end level boss is almost as old as videogaming itself, and many genres have some form of superior foes awaiting you at the end of a level, area or mission. These bosses are often large, overpowered beasts that make the foes you've faced thus far seem tame in comparison,...

Holmes grieves as he and Watson track down an Anthrax threat in Elementary’s latest episode…
This review contains spoilers.
2.20 No Lack Of Void
Just last week I tutted at Elementary’s short memory when it came to introducing and then ignoring promising supporting characters, only for one of the first season’s more intriguing bit-players to reappear this week.
That Roger Rees’ Allistair turned up posthumously didn’t deprive us from seeing more of Holmes’ childhood thesp pal thanks to Elementary’s first experiment with magic realism. Holmes’ hallucinations were unexpected in a drama that’s so far existed on the bonkers side of real life, but not a jarring departure; it was more Six Feet Under than Ghost.
That said, it does change things. Opening a door into Holmes’ largely unreachable inner life introduces the possibility of more narrative tricks in Elementary...

Stories, however they’re told, take us on a journey. They can be full of struggle, hardship, and general nasty bits, but once you’re in, you’re in for good. For Those in Peril, the highly accomplished debut from newcomer Paul Wright, arguably boasts two of them; the main narrative itself, and the child’s fable that acts as a metaphorical parallel. Except this isn’t really about one story, or two; it’s in the telling of them that’s important.
Aaron, a slight recluse and a bit of a dreamer, is trying to adjust to life back in his rural Scottish fishing town following a bizarre fishing accident where he is the only survivor. He and his mother Cathy (Kate Dickie) struggle with the aftermath; Aaron’s brother, Michael (Jordan Young), died in the disaster, and their fellow townsfolk regard his return to shore unharmed as unnatural,...

A new Need for Speed is racing our way, and here's the official reveal trailer...
Developed by Ghost, in association by Criterion, Need for Speed: Rivals has been announced, and here's the reveal trailer to have a good gawk at.
The new racer in the popular series will make full use of the Frostbite 3 engine, which EA is certainly making good use of in its latest range of titles.
The game will let players pick either a street racer, or the law, and the story will take place in another open-world setting, this time Redview County. Expect the usual Nfs staples such as trolling and avoiding cops, unlockable, upgradable cars, and a whole lot of destruction if you opt for the former, whilst the police will instead make use of tactical power ups like road blocks and choppers, which help them track down and stop high speed perps.

A new teaser website for the next Call of Duty is live, and you can be part of it...
Activision has launched a new website for the upcoming Call of Duty title, which, if rumours are true, will be announced tomorrow.
The site (link below) doesn't contain much, except the Call of Duty logo and a mosaic. This mosaic is made up of Facebook and Twitter profile pics, and fans can link their social networking accounts to the page, which will then add their images.
The mosaic, which is still in progress, clearly resembles the skull image seen on Ghost's face mask, and presumably, the mask seen in the upcoming title, believed to be called Call of Duty: Ghosts.
The game, which has already been leaked by various outlets ahead of time, has recently been listed by Spanish retailer, Xtralife. The listing (via...

Every leak helps, as the next Call of Duty, called Ghosts, has been leaked by Tesco...
One of the biggest retailers in the world, Tesco, has seemingly dropped a bit of a clanger, and has leaked the name and box art for the next entry in the Call of Duty series, Ghosts.
A listing made public by the company included cover art for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 incarnations of the game, which is quite telling, as previously it was believed that Ghosts was headed only to PC and next gen consoles.
The box art, if final, clearly confirms the Ghosts name, and also has Infinity Ward's logo at the bottom. The soldier on the cover is pulling on a mask that looks identical to the one worn by Ghost, a character seen in previous Modern Warfare titles.
Tesco has since taken down the listing for the game.

We start with a compare/contrast of Joe's (James 100%PureFoy) and Ryan's (Kevin Bacon) morning routines:
Joe jogs in the idyllic Northeast countryside before picking up the satellite phone to call and taunt a few old enemies.
Ryan wakes up from a cheap vodka bender to the sound of Joe's voice cooing insults in his ear.
Seriously? These guys are made for each other, Jack-Sprat-and-wife style. Can the rest of us go home?
Joe calls out Ryan on his drinking, and Ryan hangs up on him. (Atta girl!) Joe calls back, and tells Ryan that he needs to at least become a functioning alcoholic, because a flat-out drunk for a hero is just a tired cliche. Joe says he's going to win Claire's love back, reminding Ryan that love conquers all. Ryan says, "Now that's a tired cliche."
Speaking of, Claire (Natalie Zea, modeling this season's hottest hostage hood) and...

It's rumour time again folks, this time for Infinity Ward's next Call of Duty, Ghosts...
With an awful lot of rumours about upcoming games being more truth than fiction lately, it's good to take note every one in a while, and this latest rumour is a big one, as it involves Call of Duty. YouTuber, Drift0r, has posted some supposedly leaked information about the next Call of Duty title, which he claims comes from a very trustworthy source.
According to this information, the next Call of Duty will be revealed in May, and will be titled Call of Duty: Ghosts, dropping Iw's Modern Warfare moniker, and it's going to take place in the future, much like Black Ops II. Whether the name is in relation to Modern Warfare's character, Ghost isn't known.
Despite the future setting, however, due to some form of major plot event,...

I love, love, love Angela Bassett! She.s one of the sweetest, down-to-earth folks I.ve ever interviewed! And Aaron Eckhart is equally sweet and answered my questions with wit! Both star in the new movie .Olympus Has Fallen. with Gerard Butler doing double-duty as producer and actor. This is from the .Training Day. director, Antoine Fuqua, and let me tell ya, it.s guns ablazing! An all-out action film blessed with fine actors.
Bassett plays the Secret Service Director Lynn Jacobs while Eckhart is our President Benjamin Asher. Both characters are tested when the White House was taken over by an insane terrorist, Kang, played by Rick Yune.
In this interview, we talked about:
*** What got them interested to join the cast of .Olympus Has Fallen.
*** To Aaron . how was it working with Melissa Leo? How they one-up each other in the set!
*** To Angela . working with Morgan Freeman...

Trailer Aaron Birch Feb 1, 2013
The teased February 1 trailer was, indeed, for God of War, and it’s a live action epic…
As we suspected, the teased first of Feb reveal was for the upcoming God of War: Ascension. The trailer, which is a live action affair, is pretty damn impressive, and deals with Kratos losing his family and becoming the Ghost of Sparta.
In the teaser, I caught a little feel of Frank Miller’s 300, which isn’t surprising, given the Spartan theme of God of War, but the beginning of this trailer is 300 through-and-through, and the game will also come with a 300-themed Dlc pre-order. This includes the Mythological Heroes and Villains pack, and a King Leonidas 300 armour and spear multiplayer Dlc, as well as a 48 hour Xp booster and double-sided poster.
God of War: Ascension will be released on PlayStation 3 on March 12 in the Us and March 13 in Europe,...

Thq’s difficulties may become a bargain money-spinner for the French publisher…
Now that Thq has filed for bankruptcy following its gradual decline, many of the company’s projects are still in motion, at least according to Thq president, Jason Rubin. However, some of Thq’s biggest IPs may be on the way to a different stable.
According to unconfirmed sources, McV has reported that Ubisoft, publisher of such big names as Assassin’s Creed, Rayman, Far Cry and Ghost Recon, is interesting in acquiring some of Thq’s assets.
The list, which is pretty much made up of Thq’s most successful IPs, includes Saints Row, Red Faction, Darksiders, and WWE would give Ubisoft a good injection of big name titles. Talks have been long, and it’s believed that Ubisoft is pushing hard for a good, cheap and chips deal, which, given Thq’s situation,...

When Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass decided to step down from the successful Bourne series, the question on everyone's lips was: Is this the end of Hollywood's coolest spy franchise?
The espionage films began a decade ago with Bourne being pulled unconscious from the sea in The Bourne Identity.
Over the course of two more films, The Bourne Supremacy in 2004 and The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007, audiences followed Bourne's journey as he discovered his own identity and the CIA mounted an increasingly desperate manhunt for their super-spy.
The trilogy earned almost $1 billion at the global box office with $443 million alone hauled from the last chapter but, while there was a thirst for more, the filmmakers faced a conundrum if they wanted the story to move forward.
Bourne had gone public about the Us government's intelligence programmes before disappearing off the radar at the end of the last film, so there...

First off, let me say that I have not read any of the Bourne novels by Robert Ludlum. However, I am a fan of the movie franchise Directed and co-written by Tony Gilroy. Watching Matt Damon take to the role of Jason Bourne always presented viewers with thrills and a touch of suspense, even when certain plot points were superficial.
Next, let me say that I am a fan of Jeremy Renner. Yes, he was great in The Hurt Locker. However, he really showed off his acting chops in The Town. If you haven’t seen the film yet (it’s the Boston version of Heat), then you need to check it out if only to see Renner act as a true sociopath in action.

Steven Soderbergh is an interesting director; he is not a director that everyone knows by name or sight, but his movies tend to do well in the mainstream market. Soderbergh is not a recognizable name like Spielberg (to many), but he is well respected and his catalog is admirable. In the past year he has directed two films, the first being Contagion, which was met with lukewarm appreciation and the other is Haywire. As many (I hope) of you know, winter time is the dumping ground for films that are not that…great. They have been pushed out of the way of the Oscar season and are left to flail around like a fish out of water during the “cold” months. There are some films that are decent though, even if they don’t have a huge impact; Haywire is one of these films.

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.
Shall we see who is the fariest of them all? Oh indeedy, let’s do!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.
