Freeform’s “Single Drunk Female” Season 2 trailer is here to show that Samantha Fink’s sober journey is only the starting point in her story.
The comedy series — set to return Wednesday, April 12, at 10 p.m. Et/Pt on Freeform, and releasing the full ten-episode second season on Hulu Thursday, April 13 — showed a glimpse of Sam (Sofia Black-d’Elia) working to become more self-sufficient after getting more comfortable in her sobriety.

“If last season was Sam having to deal with her worst self to become her best self, this year it’s ‘I did everything right! Why doesn’t my life work yet?!'” Daisy Gardner, showrunner, executive producer and writer said in a statement to TheWrap.

The last time Jennifer Garner had a regular job on TV, it was as fast-running, spin-kicking, wig-wearing superspy Sydney Bristow on Jj Abrams’ delirious ABC thriller Alias. That series ended a dozen years ago, and Garner has spent the time since starring in movies, taking care of her kids and periodically being dragged into the tabloids against her will throughout her protracted divorce from Ben Affleck. Sunday night, she returns to the medium that made her famous with HBO’s comic miniseries Camping, from Girls creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner.

There is an art to making comedy about irritating, self-involved, or even just flat-out terrible people. Sharp writing can make such characters wickedly funny, spitting jokes like acid that sting as hard as they land (see: “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”); it can peel back their defensive spiky layers to find surprising depth and tenderness hiding just underneath (see: “You’re the Worst”). But no matter what the approach, there has to be some dynamism in order to keep the story afloat, some glancing indication that the comedy’s got a little more to it than just showing off the depraved depths to which its characters could sink.
“Camping,” apparently, missed this memo.
The new HBO series — from “Girls” creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, based on a series by British comedian Julia Davis — strands a group of deeply irritating people out in the woods together for eight episodes worth of misery.

Paramount Network has canceled “American Woman.” The decision to pull the plug on the drama comes roughly two weeks after its first season finished airing on the Viacom-owned cable channel.
Inspired by the life of “Real Housewives” star Kyle Richards, “American Woman” starred Alicia Silverstone and Mena Suvari, and followed Silverstone’s character Bonnie, an unconventional mother struggling to raise her two daughters after leaving her husband, with help from her two best friends.
The series landed a 12-episode order for its first season, but followed a winding path to the screen. It was originally developed for Viacom’s TV Land, but was moved to Spike last year ahead of the latter network’s rebranding as the Paramount Network. The Warner Horizon series then underwent a showrunner change midway through production, with John Wells stepping in after John Riggi exited the series over creative differences.

“American Woman” will not be returning for a second season, the Paramount Network announced Wednesday.
The series starred “Clueless” star Alicia Silverstone as a mother navigating the 1970s sexual revolution. Mena Suvari and Jennifer Bartels also starred in the 12-episode first season. While the John Riggi-created series started off strong, it did not maintain high enough ratings to merit a sophomore run.

Eyebrows were raised this week when it was revealed that longtime producing partners Jenni Konner and Lena Dunham had parted ways, particularly as their latest series, HBO’s “Camping,” is set to premiere this fall.
Konner was on hand at HBO’s Television Critics Association press tour on Wednesday, while Dunham was not. But despite the fact that they didn’t share the stage, Konner said the split was amicable: “We feel super lucky to have had eight amazing years and we just wanted to do different things,” she told reporters. “There’s no drama there. It’s just work. It’s just the creative process.”
Later, HBO programming president Casey Bloys reiterated that explanation to IndieWire. “It’s a creative marriage, and I think they just wanted to move in different directions,” he said. “It’s not a shock, it’s pretty amicable and I think they wanted to focus on different things.

Though the rewards are great when it’s done well, period TV is difficult to pull off. For every “The Crown” or “The Americans,” shows that milk tension and drama out of their movement into a future we all know is coming, there are several less-well-remembered series that couldn’t make that leap. (Several of them premiered in the wake of “Mad Men.”) When we’re familiar not just with the setting but with what comes next for characters, seasons’ worth of investment through the infinitesimal movement of history can be a big ask. And the temptation to substitute easy cultural references for meaningful insight about the era is a big one.

(By the way, if you’ve missed any of those previous picks, here are some notable TV premieres from February, March, April, and May.)
For now, bring it on, June.

“You’re just gonna forget that this ever happened and just move on,” the busted-cheating husband says to his wife. “Yeah?” she replies with an almost-frightening smile — that then morphs into a truly frightening stare. “I can’t do that.”
Here’s the first trailer for American Woman, Paramount Network’s half-hour dramedy starring Alicia Silverstone as the wronged spouse. Set in the mid-1970s “amid the sexual revolution and the rise of second-wave feminism,” it follows Bonnie, an unconventional mother who is struggling to raise her two daughters after she bails on the hubby.
Bonnie fires the maid and gardener then tells her besties Kathleen (Meni Suvari) and Diana (Jennifer Bartels) that she’s going to find a job. (Diana knows this math: “Try working twice as hard for half the recognition and a quarter of the pay.”) All three discover their own brand...

TV Land is becoming a powerhouse of original content, and while every effort they make might not create a winner, they are assembling a collection of exceptional efforts.
American Woman feels slightly out of place with their particular niche, which is something like “’80s sit-com meets a new age,” but that’s something that may become clear as we get closer to the show’s arrival. It was just announced today that the show received a series pick-up, and there isn’t a lot to go on yet, except that the show stars Alicia Silverstone, Mena Suvari, and Jennifer Bartels.
It’s inspired by the real-life upbringing of co-executive producer Kyle Richards, which might mean anything, and is written and executive produced by John Riggi (30 Rock, The Comeback). John Wells (ER, Shameless, The West Wing) is also executive producing, so you have to think we’re putting forward a serious effort here.

Once there’s a musical, pretty much everything is fair game, and with that in mind, TV Land has started the ball rolling on a Heathers anthology series.
It’s tricky to imagine what the series might look like, but it apparently it focuses on Veronica coming out the other side of her time with the first Heathers to find herself in the present day with a new group of Heathers. You have to imagine that Veronica has grown into a rather interesting person, one way or another, after the experiences that have now become pop culture canon.
Skeptics might not look too highly on the idea of taking this crazy black comedy for a spin, but the script is coming from Jason Micallef, who wrote the fantastic film Butter.

Pitch Perfect alum Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman are attached to produce John Riggi’s untitled holiday pitch for Universal, according to Deadline.
Centering around Mrs. Claus in the build-up to the festive season, Riggi’s original story reportedly centers on Santa’s significant other, as she juggles life, marriage and keeping check on who’s been naughty or nice. Perhaps best known for his work on NBC’s hit comedy sitcom 30 Rock, Riggi has been nominated for the Writers Guild award, all the while picking up an Emmy.
Even on paper, combining the producing talents that helped shepherd Pitch Perfect into a global phenomenon – particularly Banks, who helmed the musical sequel – and the scribe that contributed to 30 Rock sounds overly promising, and Universal may very well be onto a winner with what will likely be its marquee 2016 holiday release.
