Brooklyn Nine-Nine is sure to have a resurgence in popularity as the comedy series just debuted on Netflix this week!
The comedy series ran for eight seasons total, with the first five airing on Fox, before getting canceled. NBC then picked up the series for a sixth season, followed by two more season renewals.
Here’s a synopsis: Sergeant Jeffords and detectives Peralta, Santiago and Diaz lead a loveable and offbeat squad that must get its act together when their precinct gets a new boss: the no-nonsense, unflappable Captain Holt.
The show starred Andy Samberg, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Chelsea Peretti, the late Andre Braugher, Dirk Blocker and Joel McKinnon Miller.
Throughout it’s run, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was nominated for many awards, and even won several, including Golden Globes for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy for Andy Samberg,...

It is a cruel, unfair twist of fate that we lost the amazing and talented Andre Braugher this week at the age of 61. Though Braugher appeared in notable film roles over the course of a handful of decades, like his debut role of Corporal Thomas Searles in Edward Zwick's "Glory," Brent Norton in Frank Darabont's adaptation of "The Mist," and real-life journalist and editor Dean Baquet in the recent "She Said," he was best known on the small screen for primarily playing men of authority, like his Emmy-winning turn as Detective Frank Pembleton of the Baltimore Pd on "Homicide: Life on the Street." For many viewers, Braugher is best known for playing another commanding cop, Captain Raymond Holt of the NYPD in the brilliantly silly eight-season sitcom "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." Both when it aired initially, and through binge-rewatches, it's clear that Braugher successfully balanced the serious and the loopy in his performance as Holt,...

At first blush, Andre Braugher cut a similar figure to Raymond Holt, the NYPD captain he spent eight seasons playing on the Fox-turned-NBC sitcom “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Both were imposing figures who carried a sense of gravitas: Braugher as a Juilliard-trained, Emmy-winning dramatic actor; Holt as a gay, Black police officer who’d overcome prejudice to climb his agency’s ranks. Both found themselves in a working environment with a zaniness that was superficially at odds with their well-earned reputations, whether a joke-filled network comedy or the precinct it was named for.
But just like his character, Braugher’s last major leading role in a television series before his death on Monday at just 61, the performer took naturally to this new environment. The straight man is a classic archetype in an ensemble comedy, and Captain Holt is initially introduced as a somber foil to Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), a “Die...

This past July marked 10 years since Thundercat released his sophomore album, Apocalypse. Now, the virtuoso bassist is commemorating the release with a deluxe reissue, titled Apocalypse 10-Year Edition, due on March 1st, 2024 via Brainfeeder.
Produced by Flying Lotus, the original Apocalypse featured 12 tracks, all presenting Thundercat’s unique sound and capacity for expression. The reissue will arrive with two previously-unheard bonus tracks: “Before I loved myself ‘I’ pooped my ankles (true)” featuring Taylor Graves and Thundercat’s late collaborator, Austin Peralta; and “Paris” featuring Mono/Poly.
Thundercat and Peralta were close collaborators, with the latter appearing on the former’s debut album, The Golden Age of Apocalypse, in 2011. Peralta’s death in 2012 at the age of 22 hit Thundercat particularly hard, which influenced Apocalypse.
The deluxe version of Apocalypse follows the reissue of Thundercat’s debut album, The Golden Age of Apocalypse, for its 10th anniversary in 2021. When the new record arrives in March,...

Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk is recalling the time he was hired as David Spade’s stunt double in 1987’s Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol, but it didn’t go as planned, all thanks to puberty.
During the latest episode of Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast, which he co-hosts with Dana Carvey, Hawk revealed that he initially auditioned for a role in the movie, which follows a group of civilian volunteers who are hired to work alongside police officers to fight crime.
Though he didn’t land a lead role, he said the film’s team decided to hire him as a stand in for Spade during scenes with complex skate tricks and since they are both goofy-footed. The Saturday Night Live alum played Kyle in the movie, a skater who was put in the program as punishment for his crimes.

Before Tony Hawk was a household name with his own skateboard company, video game franchise, and more, he signed on to serve as David Spade‘s stunt double in Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol. Unfortunately, he didn’t get to spend a whole lot of time on the project as he was fired for growing a little too quickly.
While appearing on David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast (h/t EW), Tony Hawk discussed his time on Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol and how he came to be booted from the movie. “I went through a growth spurt, from the time we tried out [for the movie] to the time we got there, and so for the first week, they were like, ‘I think that guy is too tall,’” Hawk said. “And I remember the director saying ‘y’know, he’s a pretty good skater but he’s a bad stunt double!

Tony Hawk was fired as David Spade’s stunt double in 1987’s Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol.
Spade’s podcast, “Fly on the Wall,” hosted Hawk and revealed his brief tenure as Spade’s skating doppleganger in the film. Hawk was required to double as Spade in scenes with complicated skate tricks.
There was one hang-up with that.

On TV “I never saw Meso-American Indigenous Mexico without Spanish influence, and I wanted to connect with my roots,” says Alexander. The series is anime influenced, not just in its aesthetics – the painterly fields of Meso-America and the frenzied gory combat – but also in its being serialization, pacing and broad audience target, including adults, she argues. A freelancer for Cartoon Network, Hasbro and Nickelodeon, but “Onyx Equinox” is her major achievement.

Do you like your sitcoms lighthearted with a hint of mystery? Do you think Jake Peralta is an amazing "detective slash genius"? Do you often restrain yourself from blurting out "title of your sex tape" when someone says something that sounds unintentionally inappropriate? Then you're probably a fan of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," the cop comedy starring Andy Samberg.
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" debuted on Fox in 2013, one year after Samberg's exit from "Saturday Night Live." His "Nine-Nine" character, Jake Peralta, is a detective with the NYPD. As with many Samberg roles, Peralta is an endearing goofball, an adult who faces the challenge of growing up without letting go of the boisterous joy that some mistake for immaturity.
After five seasons, Fox unceremoniously canceled "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" in 2018. However, NBC picked it up a day later, ultimately airing the show for three more seasons. There are 153 episodes, and every fan has their favorite. From the...

While it may have been difficult to watch "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" get the axe from NBC, a comedy about a group of good people within the NYPD actually trying to do good for their community during a very real influx of injustice made their genuine efforts look all too much like a fantasy. Although the series has left us, when "B99" wanted to be funny, it had some of the most hilarious writing on television, and the stacked ensemble cast always came to play.
As with any great sitcom, however, some of the series most memorable moments involve the addition of a surprise guest star to the mix. "B99" has featured such a diverse roster as Lou Diamond Phillips, Patton Oswalt, Jenny Slate, and Sterling K. Brown, but it was in their first season where series creators/writers Dan Goor and Michael Schur brought out one of their funniest guest spots in Adam Sandler.

About six weeks ago, locals and visitors to the famed intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street saw one of the bare walls in the area begin to show some shapes and colors. Over on Instagram, posing at the same spot, Los Angeles urban pop artist Tristan Eaton wrote on July 17, “My dream wall is finally happening!”
On Aug. 25, the six-story mural, which adorns the south-facing side of the Aster club and hotel, had its official reveal in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The mural was created with spray paint and executed in Eaton’s signature collage style, which mixes pop art and traditional techniques. It’s a salute to Hollywood groundbreakers such as Judy Garland and Sidney Poitier, whose likenesses are the largest figurative elements of the work. Garland’s daughter, Lorna Luft, and granddaughter, Vanessa Richards, were among the guests who attended the ribbon-cutting.
