The San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback was never supposed to be leading the team, at least not to a Super Bowl game. Brock Purdy was once saddled with the “Mr. Irrelevant” moniker after he was drafted with the final pick of the 2022 NFL draft.
Because of his unlikely celebrity, little was known about the signal-caller’s private life until now. Did you know he’s about to be a married man? Brock Purdy is engaged to his college sweetheart, Jenna Brandt, and they have set a wedding date.
How did Brock Purdy and Jenna Brandt meet?
Brock Purdy and his fiancee first met while in college, although it is unclear exactly when the duo linked up. Still, a social media post clarifies that they became a couple as undergraduates. Both Purdy and Brandt entered the University of Iowa as freshmen in 2018. Purdy, an Arizona native, traveled to the Division I school to play football.

Prior to his love story with Swift, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was in a relationship with sports reporter Kayla Nicole. After they split, Nicole was linked to another football player. Here’s what we know about Nicole and Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons.

Like it or not people can’t stop talking about about pop star Taylor Swift and her rumored romance with NFL tight end Travis Kelce. The biggest news story of September has carried into October after Swift showed up at Met Life Stadium to watch the Kansas City Chiefs take on the New York Jets. Two weeks later, prior to a game against the Denver Broncos, the mayor of Kansas City announced that the “Anti-Hero” artist was in town for the Thursday night football game.
The NFL certainly doesn’t mind having Swift in the stadium cheering on the Kelce. In fact, viewership for Chiefs games has been up since the singer attended her first one on Sept. 24, and Kelce’s jersey sales have gone through the roof. Now, someone else is hoping to get Swift to attend an event, and that is Heidi Klum. Here’s what the supermodel...

CMT and CBS announced Wednesday night that “The CMT Music Awards” will be moving away from its traditional base in Nashville to Austin for 2023, with the broadcast taking place from that city’s Moody Center next April 2.
The news means that the CMA Awards telecast (which is about to air on ABC Nov. 9) is now the only one of the three major country music awards shows still taking place in Nashville — with the other two suddenly both earmarked for Texas. The third show in this triad, the ACM Awards, which aired from Nashville during the pandemic but otherwise have had the out-of-town novelty factor in airing from Las Vegas in recent years, recently announced a move to Dallas for 2023.
The CMT/CBS announcement was made at a Carrie Underwood concert at that new facility, where the star was joined on-stage — by Kelsea Ballerini, who will be returning for her third year as co-host.

This dog is loyal to his friends until the end — and beyond.
According to Ktrk, Animal Control officers in Jonesboro, Arkansas, received a call about two dogs lying in a ditch on Thursday. When the officers arrived they found a heartbreaking scene: two elderly dogs, one dead, with the other holding vigil over his late friend.
Authorities believe the deceased canine was hit by a car the day before, while walking with his friend, leaving the other dog, a shepherd/collie mix, to mourn.

Wouldn't it be weird if Oscar had finalist rounds for all categories and not just a few of them? Can you imagine a runway elimination for Costume Design or a Supporting Actress pre-nom bake-off? But, bringing us back to reality, few categories do this. The effects branch does and after having a looksie at this year's showiest films, they've narrowed the Oscar posssibilities for "Best Achievement in Visual Effects" to 15. We're not sure why there are so many steps in the process but they'll narrow it down again in early January to 10 before 5 are named at the end of January on Oscar Nomination Morning (Or what Nathaniel calls Christmas Eve... Christmas being Oscar Night, his favorite holiday!)
The semi-finalist list bring us a few dinosaurs, a handful of mythical creatures, several aliens, a dozen colorful superheroes, a scary school (herd? pack? fleet?) of mermaids, and many robots from small to super sized.

Tremors? Nightbreed? Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat? 976-evil? Are all on the list this year. And though there were not huge horror wins in sound editing through screenplays, the Technical Awards never cease to bring out the horror veterans. Notably Tim Drnec who contributed to such VHS classics as Alien Seed, Destroyer, and Prison won for his work on “Spydercam 3D volumetric suspended cable camera technologies.” An award also shared with Ben Britten Smith and Matt Davis who both also worked on Constantine.
But among all the winners, the Academy also honored some great loses in 2010. And though they mentioned some of our heroes, Dennis Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and Dino de Laurentiis (King Kong), they did not mention Zelda Rubinstein or Corey Haim. But we will in this last section and the others lost to us last year.

Meet Ashlee Simpson's rumored rebound boy. Musician Craig Owens has been spotted acting rather affectionately toward the recently separated singer, tucking his arm around her shoulders and leaning over to give her a smooch on the lips while shopping in L.A. Where You May Know Him From: The 26-year-old singer-guitarist (whose awesome real name is Craigery Michael Owens) used to front the post-hard-core group Chiodos until his mates "let him go" in 2009, writing on MySpace: "This decision was a necessary one. Did the Oscars surprise anyone? Sci-Fi fans, we are of course still sore over Christopher Nolan’s snub for Best Director, but Inception still was recognized with four Oscars. Genre highlights from the 83rd Academy Awards also include Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland sweeping away the two coveted design awards in Art Direction and Costume Design and The Wolfman won for Best Makeup. Pixar‘s Toy Story 3 took home Best Animated Film and Best Song.
This Sunday’s broadcast of the 83rd Academy Awards on ABC attempted to reach out to a “younger crowd” with its choice of hosts, Anne Hathaway and James Franco, but the live broadcast dropped 9% in overall ratings compared to last year’s broadcast and down 12% in the 18-49 adult demographic. Still, the show entertained 37.6 million viewers with a show full of exposition to educate new viewers about the history of past Oscar winners.

In a surge reminiscent of its late-breaking Oscar season momentum, The King’s Speech triumphed at the 2011 Academy Awards, winning three of the final four categories including Best Picture, Best Actor (Colin Firth), and Best Director (Tom Hooper). The magnificent British drama took home four golden statues on Sunday, tieing Christopher Nolan’s Inception for the most Oscars, and narrowly beating critic favorite and three-time winner The Social Network.

Hollywood's biggest night of the year has come and gone, and it seems many could care less. Last night's 83rd Annual Academy Awards show wasn't as dreadful as many critics have charged, but it wasn't lustrous, either — not the way it has been in decades past — leading many to wonder if the ceremony is: a) losing its relevance; b) compromised by the down economy; c) an indicator of the changing state of both the film and broadcast industry.
The turn of the 21st century has seen the celebrated awards show take a hit. Changes over the past decade seem to have aversely affected the program, including shifting the broadcast from Monday at 9pm to Sunday at 8:30pm in 1999. During the TV writers strike in 2008, just over 32M viewers watched the Oscars, the least viewed ever.
This year the Academy Awards show fell to an 11.7 adults 18-49 rating, down 12% vs.

It’s Oscar time as the 83rd Academy Awards are about to start in Los Angeles and though the whispers on the wind blowing through Hollywood are telling us that these are the most easily predicted Oscars in years I’m still holding out for one or two surprises.
Our man Ian Gilchrist offered his views on the big awards and whatever happens in the event the world and his dog will be liveblogging and twitter is almost certain to groan worryingly under the weight of the #oscar discussion, we’ll be doing our bit and updating this page with the winners as they are announced, but why not join in the fun and head on out to Twittersville and follow along with @heyuguysblog. Seriously, those cool kids? It’s where they are.

Football has the Super Bowl, baseball has the World Series, soccer has the World Cup and movies have the Academy Awards. Each year, Hollywood's schedule more or less culminates with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences handing out Oscars for the year's best films and Sunday, for the 83rd straight time, it happened again. Hosts James Franco [1] and Anne Hathaway [2] helped some of the most famous actors and actresses [3] in the world hand out the hardware for the best of 2010. Leading the pack with twelve total nominations [4] was The King's Speech, followed by True Grit with ten, Inception and The Social Network with eight, The Fighter with seven, 127 Hours with six, Black Swan and Toy Story 3 with five and The Kids Are all Right and Winter's Bone with four. And those just so happen to be the 10 films nominated for Best Picture. Did your favorite film take home an Oscar?...

It's hard to predict the winners of this year's Oscars because there is no clear-cut favorite. Last year, Kathryn Bigelow's "The Hurt Locker" started strong during awards season and maintained its dominance all the way to its Oscar best picture victory. This year, David Fincher's "The Social Network" triumphed in the beginning but the Oscar buzz surrounding the movie is slowly fading away.
But I still have my favorites and I will attempt to handicap the Oscars. Here are my predictions of who should take home Oscar gold at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.
Best Picture
.Black Swan. Mike Medavoy, Brian Oliver and Scott Franklin, Producers
.The Fighter. David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Mark Wahlberg, Producers
.Inception. Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan, Producers
.The Kids Are All Right. Gary Gilbert, Jeffrey Levy-Hinte and Celine Rattray, Producers

Hereafter delivered nominations for Michael Owens, Bryan Grill, Stephan Trojanski and Joe Farrell in “Achievement in Special Effects” at this year’s Academy Awards. This marks the first nomination for each of the four Hereafter senior artists. The effects in the film recreates the Indonesian tsunami from 2004 and the following five-minute video offers an extensive and informative breakdown of the film’s many effects. It is clearly the underdog to win, and while the film isn’t has effects driven has it’s competitors, it still required great skill and a lot of hard work. Enjoy.

When the full suite of Oscar nominations were announced a few weeks ago, squatting smack in the middle of the final five for the Best Visual Effects category was Clint Eastwood's film Hereafter. And a great many people went... 'huh?' There are obviously effects in the film, which recreates the Indonesian tsunami from 2004. But against many of the other major effects players for 2010, the nomination still seemed strange. (The other nominees are Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Inception, and Iron Man 2.) Here, then, is a five-minute video clip that offers an extensive, and often impressive breakdown of the film's many effects. Setting aside any argument about whether the film should win the Oscar, you'll have to admit that this clip makes a strong case for the nomination. (I'd still rather have seen Scott Pilgrim or one of a couple other options get the nod,...

Perhaps in response to all those people left stymied by Hereafter's Oscar nomination for visual effects (especially when Tron: Legacy got shut out of the category, poor thing), Warner Bros. have released a shot-by-shot reel showing how VFX supervisor Michael Owens and Scanline VFX put together that nine-minute opening tsunami sequence. And when you see how the live-action parts came together combining CG, green screen, water tanks, and on-location photography -- well, "Oscar-nominated Hereafter" doesn't sound so silly anymore.

Scanline VFX (300, 2012) and VFX supervisor Michael Owens lavished so much time and energy on the nine-minute tsunami at the start of Clint Eastwood's Hereafter that the movie won the Visual Effects Society (Ves) award for outstanding supporting visual effects in a feature motion picture as well as a hotly contested spot in the final VFX Oscar five. Here's a video breakdown showing how they did it: For more details, see this VFX feature.

Christopher Nolan's "Inception" dominated the 9th annual Visual Effects Society Awards winning the top prize of Outstanding Visual Effcts in a VFX-driven feature. The mind-bending film won all four categories that it was nominated for.
DreamWorks Animations' "How to Train Your Dragon" also received love from the Ves sweeping the feature animation categories including Outstanding Animation in an Animated Feature.
The ceremony, held at the Beverly Hilton, also paid homage to Nolan by giving him the inaugural Ves Visionary Award. The great Ray Harryhausen was given the much-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award.

Last night, the Visual Effects Society announced the winners of their 9th annual Ves Awards, recognizing…you guessed it! The best in visual effects for films, television, commercials and video games. The big winner of the night was none other than Inception, which shouldn’t come as a huge shock, winning four awards that include Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects Driven Motion Picture. How to Train Your Dragon was the main victor in the animated film department, a well-deserved win. The big win it nabbed was for Outstanding Animation in an Animated Feature Motion Picture. Hereafter and Deathly Hallows: Part 1 also earned some wins; the latter taking something isn’t a surprise, but the dull, uninspired effects of Hereafter getting both this and an Oscar nod is baffling. Where is the love for the incredible work done on Scott Pilgrim?

The Oscar nominations have been announced and it’s great to see Inception, Toy Story 3, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, How to Train Your Dragon, Iron Man 2, Tangled, Tron, and Wolfman being honored this year. This year’s nominations hit the familiar marks that the sci-fi genre is most associated with in the categories of special effects, art direction, animation, costuming, and make-up.
Inception is the most visibly well-rounded in achievements in film-making and leads the sci-fi/fantasy pack with eight nominations, though director Christopher Nolan was snubbed in the Best Director nominations. Toy Story 3 follows with an impressive five nominations, and both films garnered nominations in the Best Picture category.

Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech lead the Oscar nominations this morning with twelve mentions, making the regal drama the film to beat at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on February 27.
The Coen brothers’ True Grit followed closely with ten nominations and early frontrunner The Social Network finished with eight. “Ten seems like an awful lot,” the Coen brothers said in a joint statement Tuesday. ”We don’t want to take anyone else’s.”
All three were included in the “Best Picture” category, as expected, along with several other awards shoo-ins like The Kids Are All Right and Toy Story 3 (only the third animated film ever in the category). Winter’s Bone was the only surprise in the field of ten, possibly edging out Ben Affleck’s critically-acclaimed The Town or Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go, which were both snubbed from the ceremony entirely.

Okay. For most, this is not really that important. For us (for some unknown reason) the Academy Awards, and yes, even the nomination announcements, are marked days in our calendar. Since we gained the capacity to retain memories we’ve watched the Oscars and rooted for our favourite flicks… and by rooted we mean bet on the winners in hopes of walking away both Oscar prediction champion and with a few extra bucks in our pocket. This year the road starts here with the full list of nominees for the 83rd Academy Awards.
