Steve Harvey may not be used to being the butt of the joke, but that's what's happened days after his shocking memo to staff got leaked and sent the Internet into a tizzy. Jerry O'Connell, comedian Jerry Minor and the warped minds at Funny or Die have teamed up to spoof the now-infamous staff memo—and it's pretty damn funny. In the Internet sketch, Minor plays the daytime talk show host who wants nothing other than some "me-time" to "relax," but gets visited by increasingly annoying and aggravating visitors (mostly O'Connell). O'Connell may not have gotten the gig at Live! With Kelly this week, but at least he's still got his sense of...

"Fame is fleeting," Robert Kardashian tells his kids in an early episode of FX's The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story (it debuts tomorrow night at 10). "It's hollow. It means nothing at all without a virtuous heart." Young Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, and Rob look at their father like he's speaking some long-dead language they have no hope of understanding. Their dad is on TV, and getting priority seating at overbooked restaurants, all because he's famous — and only famous, at that, because his best friend happens to be Simpson, the world's most famous accused murderer. Of course fame means everything to these kids. The People v. O.J. — the first installment of a new FX anthology series from Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Glee), and not to be confused with ABC's similarly-titled anthology series American Crime — isn't really a Keeping Up with the Kardashians origin story. The kids only appear...

John Singleton is poised to be the next filmmaker to make the leap to television, as FX has picked up the pilot for Snowfall, a show co-created by Singleton. The press release had this summary of the series.
Los Angeles 1981. A storm is coming and its name is cocaine. Snowfall is a one-hour drama set against the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic and its ultimate radical impact on the culture as we know it. The story follows three characters on a violent collision course: Franklin Saint, young street entrepreneur on a quest for power; Gustavo Zapata, a Mexican wrestler turned gangster in search of his American dream; and Logan Miller, a prominent family’s “black sheep” desperate to escape his father’s shadow.

I finished "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" season 1 last night. My overall, very positive opinion hasn't changed much from my original review, but I have a few random thoughts on it (with spoilers, of course), coming up just as soon as you troll the respawn, Jeremy... Numbered "Kimmy" thoughts, in no particular order: 1)I need to make the theme song a ringtone so it can stay in my life always, because females are strong as hell, and it's catchy as hell. 2)Ellie Kemper is joy, and Fey, Carlock and company can still sling crazy jokes like they did on "30 Rock." That said, where "30 Rock" could often do great, hilarious things when Liz was largely absent, this show almost always works best when Kimmy is directly involved. As Kimmy's barely-qualified guide to modern life, Titus is a wonderful character; off on his own, he's very hit-or-miss. Ditto Jacqueline and Lillian and the different recurring characters.

Six years ago, Maria Bamford launched The Maria Bamford Show, a novel web series that stands as one of the best of its era. We've seen a few new web offerings from Bamford since then, and her latest work takes her to Funny or Die, where she is the co-creator and star of a web series called The Program. The Program stars Bamford as Peace, an upbeat woman whose"PhD in Medieval Studies" and her "real problem with working" have landed her $200,000 in debt. To help combat her financial situation, she runs "Debtors Anonymous", a version of Alcoholics Anonymous catered to people who are deep into debt. Debtors Anonymous attracts a few familiar faces, including Oscar Nuñez of The Office fame, former SNLer Jerry Minor, and Melinda Hill, who co-created the show alongside Bamford. Bamford and Hill have a long creative history together; they co-founded L.A. stand-up show What's Up Tiger Lily?...

When we’re not talking about the many, many concept episodes Community has done, there’s a very specific and successful structure the sitcom has followed over the years. It’s easy to forget Community got its start with a simple three-plot formula, but “Analysis of Cork-Based Networking” should be a gentle reminder of how great that simplicity can be. While we may all rave and applaud paintball and bottle episodes, there needs to be a sense of normalcy for those more extravagant episodes to have any context. We’ve already had three concept episodes in a row, so “Networking” is a breath of fresh air needed only because to continue at the pace Community had set for itself would’ve resulted in a winded season. Think of these smaller scale episodes as necessary rest if you must, but don’t discard them as ineffective.
In fact, “Networking” is a fairly busy episode.

Excitement blends with anticipatory exhaustion as the first TV panels announcement for Comic-Con 2013 has appeared. This year, 20th Century Fox Television gets the nod for First Post, with newbie How I Met Your Mother saying Hi and Bye, and no joy for Glee fans as it didn’t make the 2013 cut. Here’s the press release:
Twentieth Century Fox Television will once again dominate the San Diego Comic-Con convention, with stars and creators of eleven of its highly-coveted, fan favorite shows at the world famous gathering next month. In addition to exclusive sneak peeks of its programs and panel discussions with the stars and creators of its shows, the studio will rotate an incredible line-up of talent through the newly expanded two-story Fox booth on the convention center floor, for star-studded autograph signings and exciting booth activities including distribution of exclusive 2013 Fox Fanfare Poster Tubes, collectible mini-posters, premium giveaways, DVD sales,...

For the first time ever, "How I Met Your Mother" will be at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2013. The CBS sitcom is one of 11 shows produced by 20th Century Fox Television that will feature at the big event. Other programs expected to have panels include "Bones," "The Simpsons," "Sons of Anarchy" and the new series, "Sleepy Hollow."
Most of the shows included on the list are Sdcc veterans, but "Himym" is a big exception to that. As a sitcom, it's not exactly standard fare for the big festival of all things nerdy. But the convention has increasingly become about promotion -- and "How I Met Your Mother" can use that going into its 9th and final season. The full "Himym" cast -- Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan -- are scheduled to attend, along with executive producers Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and Pamela Fryman.

Chicago – Craig Robinson is in the swirl of two media events in the next two weeks. His latest film “Peeples” – in which he plays the romantic comedy lead – opens on Friday. The famous TV series he has been featured in, “The Office,” has its final episode after nine seasons on Thursday, May 16th.
Through it all the unflappable Mr. Robinson portrays his laconic character style with depth and personality. He was born in Chicago, and did much of his early training through improv comedy classes at the famed Second City. He developed a musical act with comedian Jerry Minor called “L Witherspoon and Chucky,” and has appeared on HBO, Comedy Central, “Real Time with Bill Maher,” and “The Jimmy Kimmel Show” in that persona. But he is best known as the character Darryl Philbin on “The Office,” creating his own particular vibe and presence on the successful series.

Exclusive: Comedy Central has picked up freshman animated comedy Brickleberry for a second season to premiere in fall 2013. The second-season order is for 13 episodes, up from 10 episodes for the current first season. Brickleberry, executive produced by Daniel Tosh, has done well airing behind Tosh’s hit Tosh.0 on Tuesday. The animated comedy, which revolves around a group of dysfunctional park rangers at a second-tier national park, premiered on September 25 to 1.7 million viewers and a 1.0 rating in adults 18-49. Its strength has been young male demos, which are coveted by advertisers. Seven weeks into the run, Brickleberry is averaging 1.8 total million viewers each week and is the second-highest-rated series in its time slot with men 18-34 and men 18-24 in all of television. “We are happy to continue educating America’s youth about nature, and the national conservation movement,” commented Kent Alterman, Comedy Central’s Head of Original Programming and Production.

20th Century Fox Television has announced its 2012 Comic-Con schedule, which we therefore present to you here. Not that they’re offering much that we cover here at SciFi Mafia, except for one of my top two shows. Hey Wait A Minute – Argh! No American Horror Story! Well, given that they’ll probably be shooting, and that Ryan Murphy has indicated that he’d like to keep as much of it under wraps as possible, that’s probably not a huge surprise, though it is a disappointment.
We already learned about the Fringe panel from Warner Bros last Thursday, and… that’s it for us with Fox, except for Futurama which is also produced by 20th Century Fox Television. But for those of you who watch shows that we don’t usually cover here, well, here you go:

After bringing you the finest commentary on asinine goofs and oofs, Tosh.0 host Daniel Tosh is branching out into the world of animation on Comedy Central: Brickleberry (seen here on the left) will chronicle the exploits of a ragtag group of forest rangers at a second-tier national park.
Tosh has amassed a nice collection of throats to voice the characters, including Kaitlin Olson (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob Squarepants), David Herman (Mad TV), Jerry Minor (Mr. Show), and Roger Black (who created/wrote the show with fellow comedian Waco O’Guin). In a sneak preview of tonight's episode of "Key & Peele," we see the comedy duo spoof a viral news report about a Leprechaun sighting in Mobile, Alabama that took the Internet by storm in 2006.
Instead of a Leprechaun, we see a local news crew investigate a "Pegasus sighting" (that they incite) which quickly becomes a nearly shot-for-shot remake of the original, ridiculous news segment. Bonus: "Reno 911" star Cedric Yarbrough cameos as one of the revelers (he's dressed sort of like the "magic flute" guy in the first video) as well as Jerry Minor from "Mr. Show."
Another "I want the gold" guy is sadly missing, but we think you'll agree it hits on most of the best moments in the original video, including the "Amateur sketch."
"Key & Peele" airs Tuesdays at 10:30 p.m. Est/9:30 Cst on Comedy Central...

If you are not a fan of Delocated yet, then a marathon sitting at home is the only way to digest it. You just have to keep in mind that it gets better once you learn the characters. Jon Glaser has created an awkward comedy with an even more awkward and bizarre premise. A family in federal witness protection gets a deal for a reality TV series. The government lets them move to New York and do the series as long as they always wear their masks. Although this mockumentary is outrageously unbelievable, in today’s world of Kim Kardashian dominated pseudo-reality TV, anything goes. Just remember you have to want to stick it out through the first few episodes.
The pilot opens up with Jon (Glaser) and his family moving with their security detail to New York City. It’s not long before you realize that Jon is a self-absorbed jerk.

Community: “Advanced Gay” – Recap
True to Dan Harmon’s word prior to the start of Community’s current season, things haven’t been as epic, but they have certainly gotten weirder. And because this is Community, they find a way to make weirder work. I still hope they find an appropriate way to do another big genre episode, but I completely understand the reasoning behind toning those down. These smaller episodes can focus more closely on character development and that is exactly what this season is about. This could very well be the last year for show, so the plan is to take these characters as far as they can go before that final episode. Exploring the characters allows the show to dig deep and find these bizarre moments, and “Advanced Gay” is filled with them. Some of them work great, like the Air Conditioning Repair School having breath recognition instead of eye recognition.

This week’s episode was an ode to the racist and brash Pierce Hawthorne…and what an episode it was.
We start with the group sitting down for their daily lunch, where everyone's favorite Janitor (Jerry Minor) finds Troy and again tries to recruit him to the ways of plumbing. Troy agrees to go see one toilet, mostly to get him off his back. Meanwhile, the group makes a surprising discovery – turns out that Pierce is the gay community's new icon, due to his popular Hawthorne Wipes. He unknowingly fuels this status by signing his product for two gay students, not realizing their orientation (side note – I loved the subtle wink that one of the boys threw to Jeff as they left.) Abed does some YouTube research, finding that the popularity of Pierce's product is so huge that a transsexual named Urbana Champaign (RuPaul’s Drag Race Shangela) has created...

This Thursday’s episode of Community (NBC, 8/7c) is called “Advanced Gay,” and though amusingly titled, it doesn’t really reveal much at all about the plot.
With our interest sufficiently piqued, we sought out Joel McHale, hoping that Jeff’s portrayer could shed some light on this latest installment. His response? “‘Advanced Gay’ is incredible… so great. The funny thing is, the name sounds like the name of a class the group is taking and, in a way, it is a class.”

With today’s modern technology it’s easy to be your own writer, director, and star, but it’s a much more daunting task to create something people are watching. I suggest lowering your red flags of caution to check out Aaron Hilliard, (Life and Times of Tim, All That) who manages to pull off all aspects of the creative processes effectively with Grass Roots. The show has fun guest appearances from Jerry Minor (Mr. Show, Carpoolers) and Nick Kroll (Sit Down, Shut Up, Life and Times of Tim). The series quickly penned a distribution deal with Koldcast TV, can also be found on Blip.tv, and their official website www.watchgrassroots.com. There are six episodes that run around five minutes each, rolling out on Wednesdays.

Funny or Die knows how to bring the good stuff. I love seeing some of the celebs they get involved in things. Every time I think they've outdone themselves (Paris Hilton running for president?) they manage to do something even better. What better way to kick off a year that will carry Wolverine's return than with a clip from the classic sitcom, Mystique and Me. You know the sitcom - the one what features X-Men's Mystique as a married housewife? Surely you saw it, and you remember the classic episode where Mystique got angry because she was pregnant, and the fetus inside her wouldn't shape-change, right? If you don't remember it, check it out below. Thanks to MTV's Splash Page for showing me this great clip. "Mystique is Pregnant" featuring Jerry O'Connell and Rebecca Romijn by Jerry Minor...

Why doesn't Jerry O'Connell get loads of big-screen work? Why, Hollywood? Why? The guy has been comedy gold on Funny or Die, and now he gets to impregnate Rebecca Romijn's Mystique, which you can see above.
The clip is set up to be a "classic clip from the sitcom Mystique and Me, where Jerry gets Mystique pregnant with a non-shape-shifting baby." So, while Rebecca might be able to morph into anyone, including Jerry Minor, that baby bump remains, as does her anger over getting impregnated with inferior human sperm.
But methinks she might be off on her reasoning. What if she was carrying a mutant who caught on fire every time he was completely relaxed? Or a girl whose skin lets loose pointy horns in anything but perfect silence? Methinks she should've just morphed her eggs into something Jerry's sperm wouldn't recognize.
