Nick’s finances have never been his strong point, but how bad could it really be? He lives in a beautiful loft apartment in Los Angeles, dresses plainly but stylishly, and doesn’t seem to have problems looking after himself. Sure, his car is a wreck, but aside from that he’s basically Ok, right? Well, no, because in this episode we meet the eponymous “box.”
This week’s episode definitely isn’t the best New Girl, not by a long shot. In fact, if not for some choice moments (mostly Schmidt, as per usual), it’d be pretty damn forgettable. It comes at a strange point in the season too, about a quarter of the way in. I know that not every episode can be a total game changer, but any important plot points that we’re seeing are too far away from the season finale to have any overall relevance.

Money changes people, y’all. Or perhaps love changes people? And yet… Nick got a heapin’ helpin’ of both this week and let’s be honest: Nick is who he is. Getting an $8,000 inheritance from his dearly departed Pop-Pop didn’t change him any more than an inadvertent turn as a Good Samaritan fundamentally shifted Schmidt’s moral fiber. Their actions, catharses, and struggles this week were just a blip — just like this episode.
Now about that money…. One morning, the roommates heard a knock on the door. Jess greeted an incredibly seamy-looking character who said he had a package for Nick.

In a very sad case of life imitating art, actor Dennis Farina died Monday at age 69 just months after his New Girl character was laid to rest on TV.
In the March 26 episode “Chicago,” Nick Miller (Jake Johnson) and his roommates head to Nick’s hometown for the funeral of Walt Miller (Farina). Johnson clearly had a soft spot for his TV dad, sending this statement to EW on Monday:
“I feel very honored to have had the chance to meet, talk the Chicago Bears, and act with Dennis Farina,” Johnson said in the statement. “He is someone I will surely miss.

Fans of veteran character actor Dennis Farina were shocked on Monday (July 22) to learn that he had suddenly passed away at the age of 69 after suffering a blood clot in his lung. Luckily for us, Farina, a former Chicago police officer who commonly played cops on screen, will live on in the performances he brought to life in both TV and film.
Here's a look back at the 10 roles that defined Farina's long career in show business.
1. "Thief" - 1981
Farina may have only appeared briefly as Carl, a henchman, but this was the film role that started it all. Director Michael Mann cast him in the film after Farina had worked his his police consultant, beginning a working relationship that would span the actor's career
2. "Manhunter" - 1986
When Mann adapted Thomas Harris' novel "Red Dragon" (the first cinematic appearance of Hannibal Lecter), he turned to Farina to bring FBI agent Jack Crawford to life.

Dennis Farina, best known to TV audiences for his work on "Law & Order," has died.
The veteran film and TV actor, who starred as Detective Joe Fontana on "Law & Order" from 2004-2006, was 69. Farina started his TV career by playing a patrolman in the 1983 TV movie "Through Naked Eyes," while still serving as a police officer. Farina served 18 years with the Chicago Police Department and much of his early TV work included roles as cops and diner owners before taking on the role of Lt. Mike Torello in "Crime Story."
Farina's recent TV credits include the now-canceled HBO series "Luck," opposite Dustin Hoffman, and Fox's "New Girl," where he played Walt Miller, Nick's (Jake Johnson) dad. Farina's character died on the Fox series in a March 2013 episode. Johnson tweeted about Farina's passing shortly after the news broke.
Rip Dennis Farina. What a tremendous loss.

Not so long ago, in circumstances far, far too embarrassing to brag about, New Girl‘s Jess, Nick, Schmidt and Winston lost their virginity. (So did Cece, but as you’ll see, she’s a special case.) And when a random text from Jess’ first lover gets the gang to ‘fess up about their first times doing the no-pants dance, we get a very funny episode full of gawky flashbacks and cringeworthy accounts – as well as a closing sequence sure to launch 1,000 GIFs. Let’s review who what went down in “Virgins.”

Everyone has a first time. On "New Girl," it's a safe bet that every character's first sexual experience was fairly hilarious. Viewers will find out in the next episode of the comedy, "Virgins" -- plus we will get to see Dylan O'Brien ("Teen Wolf") as Jess' prom date!
Photos from the episode show just how lucky all of these crazy kids were to get laid.
For some reason, all of the roommates, along with Cece, decide to sit down and tell the tales of how each person lost his or her virginity.
Cece's (Hannah Simone) story at least has her looking glamorous.
Nick's (Jake Johnson) does not.
However Nick lost his virginity, his dad (Dennis Farina) was somehow involved.
Winston (Lamorne Morris) got advice from Walt Miller as well.
Considering that Nick's dad was something of a con artist, there's a chance that this whole escapade could have ended very badly for the boys.

Shippers may still be reeling over New Girl’s Cece (Hannah Simone) forsaking Schmidt (Max Greenfield) to walk down the aisle with her Indian beau Shivrang (Satya Bhabha), but the model herself is ready to party in Tuesday night’s episode. In an exclusive preview clip, Simone spills the dirt on the surprise bachelorette party Jess (Zooey Deschanel) throws Cece — not to mention all the phallic decorations, revelations, and staged abductions that follow. Watch it after the jump.
With everyone’s favorite wide-eyed teacher in charge, the festivities will presumably involve more arts and crafts than boob-slap fights and butt shots.

The season 2 finale of New Girl will be Taylor-made.
Taylor Swift is guest-starring in the May 14 episode of the Fox comedy, EW has learned. The country pop star will play a character named Elaine, who is an “important guest” at the wedding of Cece (Hannah Simone) and Shivrang (Satya Bhabha).
The singer-songwriter and New Girl fan has been name-checked multiple times on the show this season: In one episode, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) sent Cece a text in which he said he was going through a “Taylor Swift-like range of emotions,” while in another, Nick (Jake Johnson) tried to cheer...

New Girl Episode 13: “A Father’s love”
Written by: Berkley Johnson & Josh Malmuth
Directed by: Jake Kasdan
Original Airdate: 15 January 2012
This week’s episode of New Girl begins with a time-killer scene where Nick is blindfolded during a game of ‘feely-cup’ that further enhances the surprise arrival of his father.
Nick resents his father and in “A Father’s Love”, New Girl attempts to pull on the audience’s heartstrings. This is a difficult balance to perfect so the episodes where New Girl tries to be serious and heart felt (“The Injury” in season 1) are hit and miss. Comedies that have been running longer such as Parks and Rec and Community have this skill down to an art. With New Girl only in its second season, this episode felt a little weak at times.
Nick grew up resenting his father for reasons including unpredictability and a warped moral compass,...

Nickels. That’s the nickname given to Nick by his father Walt (Dennis Farina), who paid a visit last night. Well… Nickels and “Little Penis” (more on that later). It turns out that Nick’s dad is better than Nick at a lot of things — charming the pants off of people (sometimes even himself), feely cup, growing a luxurious mustache, and swindling Winston. But what Nick lacks in suave, he makes up for by not being a damn con man. And so we begin the tale of the demoralization of Nick Miller by the coward Walt Miller…

Alright New Girl fans. Here’s an intriguing question for you. Have you ever imagined what Nick’s dad might be like? Well, you won’t have to rely on your imagination for much longer. The elder Miller, Walt Miller, to be exact, is coming in for a New Girl visit. We’re off to the races when actor Dennis Farina plays Nick’s daddy dearest.
The episode will debut in early 2013 and it looks like our favorite characters will have their hands full. Nick’s father, Walt is a con artist! There’s few actors better equipped for such a role. Farina has got presence, the wise guy attitude, and comedic timing to boot. His most memorable roles for me have been in Get Shorty as an angry mobster and in Out of Sight as Jennifer Lopez’s dad.
TV Line described Walt Miller as a “charming con-man” who is somewhat estranged from Nick.

Nick (Jake Johnson) on "New Girl" has a problem with dads. That's what he told Jess (Zooey Deschanel) when she wanted her roommate to meet Papa Day in the show's Thanksgiving episode.
Why exactly would Nick have such a problem with father figures? Audiences will find out when Dennis Farina arrives to guest-star as Nick's dad.
Farina will play Walt Miller, a charmer and a con man who suddenly appears in his son's life after a long absence (according to a report from TVLine). Of course, cranky nick is less than excited about his dear old dad's visit -- in fact, expect the younger Miller to have some serious suspicions about Walt's surprise visit.
Jess, of course, is excited to meet the man. Also happy at the arrival? That would be Winston (Lamorne Morris), Nick's childhood friend. There is no word yet on how Schmidt (Max Greenfield) will react.

New Girl has cast Dennis Farina as Nick's father. Get Shorty actor Farina will appear as charming conman Walt Miller in an early 2013 episode of the Zooey Deschanel sitcom, TVLine reports. Nick (Jake Johnson) will be suspicious of his estranged father's motives when he suddenly reappears in his life.
