Cinematic universes may be on the decline, but Guy Ritchie has just stumbled upon the potential for a fun one with his frequently amusing “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” a light and sloppy World War II caper that reimagines Winston Churchill (Rory Kinnear) as Nick Fury, and a series of rakish, Nazi-killing brutes as his own personal Avengers.
Men on a mission films like “The Guns of the Navarone” might seem to be the more obvious points of reference here, but by the time Churchill is spitting orders at Ian Fleming (“Slow Horses” shitheel Freddie Fox), assigning real-life actress/spy Marjorie Stewart to some “Casablanca” cosplay with a sadistic Nazi commander, and waiting by the phone to hear if his top-secret wrecking crew has managed to sink the German ships that supply Hitler’s fleet of U-boats, saving the world merely seems like the set-up for the bigger and better...

Brad Pitt has teamed up with Emmy-award winning music producer Damien Quintard to relaunch the historic Miraval Studios, where Pink Floyd, Sting, The Cure and AC/DC recorded their albums. It is being redesigned as an exclusive film and music production and post-production facility in a beautiful setting.
The studio is located in a majestic vineyard estate, Château Miraval, that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie leased in 2008, purchased in 2011 and held their wedding there in 2014. Jolie sold her 50% ownership in the property in 2021.
Spanning 1,235 acres of land in the heart of the Provence wine region, the estate occupies a private valley in the village of Correns – the first French village where everything must be farmed organically by law.
The studio is part of a broader project that includes winemaking, in partnership with the Perrin family, a leading French organic winemaker. The estate is renowned for its rosé wines.

Brad Pitt is changing his tune. The 57-year-old actor has teamed up with Emmy-winning music producer Damien Quintard to reopen Miraval Studios—the legendary recording facility located at Château Miraval in Correns, France, that has hosted sessions for Pink Floyd, Sting and the Cranberries—after a complete redesign. The music studio, which was built in 1977 by Château Miraval's then-owner Jacques Loussier, largely sat unused for two decades until Pitt and Quintard decided to renovate the space for musicians to take on new recordings. In a press release, Quintard said that he "immediately clicked" with Pitt when the two met in Paris. "It was an intense moment...

Brad Pitt is teaming with French producer Damien Quintard to revive Miraval Studios, located at the Château Miraval in Correns, France. A major renovation, overseen and planned by Miraval co-owner Pitt and Quintard, will see the recording studio reopen in summer 2022.
In 1977, the estate’s then-owner, French pianist and composer Jacques Loussier, built a state-of-the-art studio on the property which hosted sessions for Pink Floyd’s “The Wall,” AC/DC, The Cure, Sting, Sade and The Cranberries, among others. The studio was active into the early 2000s, but has been unused for nearly two decades. Now fully redesigned and updated, Miraval Studios is taking bookings for the summer.
Quintard first became known in the world of classical music and won a Daytime Emmy Award for his work on the Baku 2015 European Olympic Opening Ceremony. He has also produced artists such as Brian Eno, Arca, Parcels and Teodor Currentzis, among others.

It’s tendon-biting combat, with guns, trains, planes, chainsaws, and an indestructible all-terrain vehicle (that still couldn’t stand the potholes in the street of Los Angeles)! Rod Taylor, Jim Brown and Yvette Mimieux blast their way through one of the roughest of the ’60s action spectacles, as mercenaries on a mission of mercy that’s really a venal grab to ‘rescue’ a fortune in diamonds. Director Jack Cardiff pushed the limits of acceptability on this one — legends persist about longer, more egregiously violent cuts.

Given the unrest across Africa today, it’s easy to forget that there was similar troubles as country after country gained their independence from colonization in the 1950s and 1960s. The Congo crisis, in particular, lasted from 1960-66 as it struggled to establish itself after Belgian rule. Over 100,000 people died during the ordeal and it inspired a 1965 novel, The Dark of the Sun, by Wilbur Smith.
The novel, rather than the actual events, led to the 1968 MGM film adaptation which is finally available on DVD from Warner Archive. The film has been a favorite of directors including Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino who lifted some of the score, and its lead Rod Taylor, for use in last year’s Inglorious Basterds.
Taylor plays mercenary Bruce Curry who is hired by the iron-fisted president Ubi (Calvin Lockhart) to retrieve $50 million in diamonds from the northern country. Accompanied by his Congolese friend...
