Sidney, the sweeping doc about the Hollywood legend, which will bow in Toronto ahead of a Sept. 23 launch on AppleTV+, got off the ground thanks in large part to the persistence of the film’s Canadian co-producer Derik Murray. “This is a story that in many ways is long overdue, about an individual who really made a difference, who was a leader for all of us in how he approached his life as a role model and a mentor,” Murray tells The Hollywood Reporter.

An Australian production company has acquired the rights to the first book in a new series of young adult fiction.
The Adelaide based Ampco Films has acquired the rights to the adaptation of novel The Alchemyst, written by Michael Scott, the first in the series, “The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel.”
Production is expected to commence in early 2013 in both Australia and New Zealand.
Mario Andreacchio of Ampco Films will produce alongside Konstantin Thoeren, producer of Peter The Great.
The story is based on French alchemist Nicholas Flamel who in the 14th century discovered the secret of eternal life which he keeps secret in a book he protects. The series tells of fifteen-year-old twins Sophie and Josh on their adventurous road across several continents with Flamel. Title figure was an actual French alchemist who was born in 1330 and included "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." New Line optioned the series three years ago with Mark Burnett to produce, however, since New Line got downsized by Warner Bros. last year, "Flamel" rights were up for grabs again.
